Royal Enfield is reportedly working on a brand-new 250cc engine platform for its future models, codenamed the V platform. This exciting development has been under consideration for several years and has only recently been greenlit. The 250cc motor is expected to feature a simple, straightforward architecture to keep costs in check, aligning more with the 350cc air-cooled motors rather than the new liquid-cooled Sherpa 450.
The new 250cc platform aims to make the Royal Enfield brand more accessible, especially since prices have risen across the board due to the BS6 norms. This new model line will appeal to a younger audience eager to join the Royal Enfield family at a lower entry point.
Royal Enfield is also exploring a hybrid option with this new 250cc engine, although this is currently an engineering exercise rather than a production model. The first 250cc V-platform bike is expected to emerge around 2026-27, forming the entry point into Royal Enfield ownership.
Historically, Royal Enfield has had 250cc bikes like the Clipper (made during the '50s - '60s) and the original '65 Continental GT 250. With the launch of the Hunter 350, Royal Enfield broadened its appeal and made its brand more accessible than ever before, both in terms of price and physical size. The new 250cc engine platform is expected to further expand the brand's appeal and make it more accessible to a wider audience.
