First of all, a happy new year to you! One thing in this video caught my attention: Your chain, after 7000 miles, being adjusted to the limit, done with, over and out. When I bought my bike brand new, I thought the chain looked very tight, but I wouldn't argue with a dealer/trained mechanic. At the 1000 km service, the chain was lubricated, but not slackened. After 5000 km's, it had 10-15 seized links, and I had to have a new chain, and new sprockets. At my own cost. Never went to that place again. But my new chain and sprockets have now done 13000 km's, about 8000 miles, haven't been tightened yet, and still looks and feels brand new.Am I a lucky SOB, or do you buy shitty chains...? 😂
@Volcanicbrown187815 күн бұрын
@roald-o6i And a happy new year to you! The chain on that Bullet is the one it left the factory with! Royal Enfield India fit the cheapest possible chains they can get their hands on and that holds true for the modern Enfields too! All the best for the new year VB , good decision not involving the police, they seem to work in an illogical manner these days. The speedo problem takes me back to when I owned old Triumphs , I never had drive problems but the cable would occasionally break about an inch from the end where it went into the drive .

@melfzs Happy new year! I don't have anything much to do with the plod if I can help it, they are very strange beasts! My memories of Triumphs were endless oil leaks and countless times walking home!

@Volcanicbrown1878 yeah, I was either making gaskets for the primary drive covers on my old pre units , or replacing the woodruff keys and tab washer on the crankshaft for the alternator rotor, or the other one on the gearbox shaft because the bloody clutch basket was often coming loose, after six years of early Triumphs it drove me over to Jap bikes in the mid 70's, but I've been an Enfield owner for the last five years now, along side a couple of Suzuki's.

Only problem I’ve had with Speedo drives was caused by a late 70’s Smiths grey faced speedo siezing up. Hardly any mileage since it was fitted new. Luckily the inner cable wound itself out before the drive on the rear wheel spun round too far. Plastic bearing surface in the Speedo, so Smith’s were cheaping out towards the end.
@Volcanicbrown187815 күн бұрын
@spamhead The grey faced magnetics weren't a patch on the chronometrics! Produced a whole lot cheaper though!

Happy new year VB. Cheaper speedo drives have always been a problem. I had an after market one on an enduro sidecar many years ago. Didn't know it had seized solid and by the time we realised, the drive pins had trepanned their way through the webs in the ally wheel hub! Expensive!!!

Thanks mate that was really useful! I bought the one you showed with the BSB branding on it from Hitchcocks. It's for my 2005 Iron barrel 500. The speedo works but the needle dances about quite a bit, not sure what that's about? I've also got a 2014 Bullet 500 where the speedo reads about 10km faster than the actual speed. Have you come across that issue with any of your bikes? Thanks again for your videos, they're bloody great 👍
@Volcanicbrown187815 күн бұрын
@felixVanDiemen Dancing needle on the speedo can usualy be traced to a badly routed cable or not enough lube on the inner cable The indian made speedo's dont have a damper fitted inside them to stop the effects of that, Smiths speedo's did! I have fitted an Indian made Smiths replica speedo to one of my other Bullets, That reads 10mph fast at 30! Those BSB drives are £40 where you bought it from, £12 direct from India with free postage! (You didn't hear that from me!!)

Great info as usual, I have Three 500s A Classic Chrome and 2 Factory Trials red and green frame. No problems yet regarding the speedos only one has done 10,000K and the other 2 have done 4,000K a piece so may be a bit early to celebrate yet... all late models here in Australia. Also have 2016 350 twin spark all ok too. 535 has done 10,000 K 2015 so far so good. However New Classic 350 Red and Chrome exhaust Rattley as billy-o tied everything..... going to replace stock exhaust with cheepo against my better judgement, also disk warped... ho hum only 6 months old, i thought the old ones were the problem.....I am probably just jinxed. Interesting stuff on the speedo drive. Pattern parts really is a lottery these days. With regard to the Police & trespassing, trespass is not a criminal offence,on its own. They may have been interested to know about the firearms at the property, though. As for the comment, that are needlessly negative, just ignore them. Delete & block if abusive etc.

Another interesting and informative video, Its quite plain to see that the Smiths speedo drive is much better made than the Indian copy, As worm and pinion drives are sliding or rubbing surfaces then I would recommend the use of a moly grease as this will substantially reduce any friction and give some protection from corrosion. On whether you should have gone to the police on your last video that is entirely your call, personally I don't think you would have had much to worry about but most likely the police would have told you take the video down which would be a shame for all of us especially with such an uncertain outcome.
@Volcanicbrown187815 күн бұрын
