Hi everyone, I really wanted to mod a keyboard for my boyfriend, so here is a video of me modding a keyboard for him :3 This keeb turned out really well! One of my best modded keeb ✦
I was really debating between the macaron84 and the rk84, and I really do regret my decision. The macaron does look prettier, but since I cannot really mod it, nor use my custom cable with it, it just collects dust rn... I switch keebs multiple times throughout the day, so to have to use a different cable for the macaron is a little bit annoying, therefore I barely use it nowadays. :c And the macaron is more expensive without having bluetooth and 2.4g. The rgb lights on the macaron is prettier though! Just through I should mention it :3

I got the Vissles V84 keyboard which was pretty much the same size as the RK84. But I do really love their VS linear switches. It's quiet and smooth.

From my personal experience, I've used a RK keyboard last year. The only thing I can say about it is that the normal keys sounds about normal (average), but the spacebar sounds bad compared to the other keys. Anyways, good video!

i got the o-rings from aliexpress, but the specific product is not available anymore T^T, just search for o-rings on aliexpress, maybe you find something similar. regarding the stock-lubed akko switches. i got the matcha greens which are suppose to be lubed, but they were still quite scratchy :c not sure if i was just unlucky with my batch tho.

I just bought some foam for my RK84 and when i opened it, i saw that it already has foam in it directly from the factory :O . It even has foam between the plate and pcb. I guess I only have to do the tapemod now :)

just out of curiosity, what makes the macaron 84 harder to mod? i have the yunzii kc84s and was able to mod it without much hassle but it could just be a slightly different model :') really nice video btw

You cannot use pe foam bc the plate is strongly attached to the pcb, it doesn't use screws so you cannot use o-rings, but even if you want, it won't fit since the upper case has to be clipped into the bottom case. On the rk84 they have a top case part as well, but I feel like it has some room so the o-rings do not get compressed too much, therefore still providing enough cushioning and isolation.

sound is subjective. I would say budget boards need this extra tuning to sound decent. i think keychron q series is good value and i like the sound, however it you like deeper sound, then you might need to mod if as gasket keyboards usually doesn't sound as deep right away (at least the ones I have). Polycarb or abs might be better for deep sound whereas alu are usually higher pitched. I think akkos new acr pro series is nice as well. i saw that they will bring out a new spring mount keyboard (will def review it!) which might be promising. Sorry that i cannot name a keyboard, but i think the information above will give you an idea what keyboard you might want.

I was wondering if you faced any interference with the keycaps you bought and if they are on the thicker or thinner side of keycaps. I have an RK myself and I've been wanting to buy cherry-profile keycaps but I keep reading stuff online about interference and have been hesitant to do so.

it's been a while since i build this, but i cannot remember having interference with cherry profile keycaps, or the interference was not that noticeable. nowadays there are many switches which you can use for north facing configuration, without having interferences. gateron has a few or you can use long pole switches

hi, unfortunately you have to have the rk plugged in with the cable to use the usb ports. they won't work in bluetooth mode

if you want to be really safe then do not cover the battery with foam (don't put foam on the battery). Some ppl mentioned tape mod can lead to that as well, but my bfs keeb is fine though (I used 3 layers of tape 🤷🏻‍♀️)

there're really budget friendly options out there nowadays, you could just buy a cheap one and play around and get a feeling for it :D it might look complicated at first, but after the first mod, you might realize that it is not that hard :)

there will be interference but i cannot remember them being extremely noticeable. not sure about jelly black, but i know that the jelly pink and white have interferences.
