I just started mine! It's a '37 before they did the square keys. Hope yours went/is going well!

Thanks for this great video. Thankfully my machine isn’t too dirty, and I feel a bit apprehensive about disassembling it, so I think using mineral spirits and compressed air will do the trick.

Thank you! I just picked this exact typewriter up at a thrift store. It’s filthy and the keys don’t come all the way up to hit the ink ribbon, but I’m hoping to at least do some proper cleaning and see what comes of it. This video is exactly what I needed!

Have you gotten it going?

Another Great Video, Duane! Thank You so much! I just bought one of these beauties today, but it will be a few days before I get down to Sacramento, CA to pick it up. If ever there was a good example for the need keep a typewriter covered during long-term storage, the typewriter in this video is a true testament to that necessity!

Great video. We got a 1959 HH from craigslist and she works fine now with the new ribbons and some sewing machine oil.

I enjoyed watching your video. It was Awesome! I would like to know where the release switch is located to actually open the lid. Mine has 2 buttons located towards the middle holding the top lid down. Thank you!
@phoenixtypewriter2136 Жыл бұрын
KMM's have no "release" buttons, lid pulls up from front, pivots in back, sometime these are very tight

Could you do a video on how to remove and reinstall the carriage on a KMM?
@phoenixtypewriter21365 жыл бұрын
Short answer, No. KMM is Probably more do-able than some, but I avoid carriage removals like the plague

I removed a carriage on a Royal Model O. With a lot of patience and very thorough research, in addition to the help of a homemade jig to reinstall the bearings, I got it back together. I experienced the misery. Don't do it! But this comment is 2 years old...so you probably did it already.

You may have seen one of my FB posts but I'll be working on a 1942 kmm royal that has been in my family for 76 years. It needs a lot of small work and hopefully I don't need to do anything major. It looks to be in a usable condition once I clean and oil it

These are tough typewriters . . . . . Just takes time, but they work great when cleaned up.

Phoenix Typewriter I've Hurd a lot of good about these kmms and khms, only thing I don't like is how closed up it is. But this video Definitely helped ease my mind so keep at it for sure! Some day my generation will have to teach the next, that'll be interesting......

What do you do with the residue from the glue that held in the sound dampeners? Do you replace those pads? I just took off my lid for my Royal KMM and it has this tan residue.

Leave it, hit it with some black paint ? I made a template and cut new thin black felt and use contact cement to attach

Just got a Royal KMM and I have a problem involving the margin release and the bell ringer. As the carriage is advancing, the bell will be triggered, but the bell ringer will run into the margin before it gets to the end that it is set at. How would I adjust this so the carriage won’t stop when I hit the bell?
@phoenixtypewriter21363 жыл бұрын
Yea I would have to see what's happening, in person, to figure out what to do, these can be tricky sometimes

Hi, I'm not sure if this is still monitored but I am having trouble placing the Tab Set key back into position on my KMM14. I was able to remove it and the front plate without issue but now trying to put everything back together is becoming a problem. Under the carriage, there looks to be a hole that the shaft should go into but there is a piece of metal about a quarter inch inside. Is this some sort of lock, and is there any way to release it? This hole seems like the only place for this shaft to go, although I may be wrong. Thank you in advance for your help.

As long as set screw and lock nut are backed out enough 4:00 to 5 minute marks Then it's just a matter of manipulation, reverse procedure. Without being able to look 1st hand for some other obstruction, I don't know....

I have this exact model of typewriter, and the only problem it has is that the carriage is slow, and lags when typing. If typing slowly, it can keep up, but as soon as you speed up a little bit, it ends up typing letters on top of each other because it can’t keep up. How might I fix this? Thanks!

I have a 1949 KMM ..... the carriage moves nicely with exception of the Q,W,A,Z,and X key. The space bar moves it as well..... how does one fix this?
@phoenixtypewriter21366 жыл бұрын
I don't know without looking at it in person. It sounds like the escapement trip bar is bent since just the far left side keys are effected. Did the machine get dropped or shipped ? Did it ever work ?
@dennysalo86646 жыл бұрын
It is the escapement bar upon further inspection. It types famously but just doesn’t advance. The bar seems pretty solid and caked with dust. After thorough cleaning it moved occasionally. Looks like more cleaning to be done.
