Red envelopes can also be a pain for the postie on the street to read if the light's bad.

@Gazzer1966 - that's a really interesting point about the red letters not being picked up by the automatic sorter. If I'd known that a minute ago I wouldn't have written straight on my Mum's Christmas card envelope and used a sticker!
