In selection, this test is done at the end of the first week. Imagine doing the final test which is 40 miles, 25 kg bergan weight plus food, water and rifle. Then having to navigate yourself through the checkpoints in under 20 hours with probably minimal sleep/rest and minimal food intake. Insane fitness from the guys who actually pass this phase

yeah probably to weed out the weak they would say. only the strongest survive.

Wasn't sure if this was gonna be another "I did an SF test in my gym gear, so im a unit" kind of video. But I was pleasantly surprised. Good vibe from both guys who knew damn well the actual test is a different beast. Enjoyed this. You've got a new subscriber.

Entertaining and inspiring! Treating myself to a pep talk or two from you and others to motivate a bit of work to slow down the slippery slope this 62 year old body is on😂. Let's call it GPD. General physical degradation

Don’t underestimate what carrying a rifle in 2 hands at all times is like compared to having two arms free. They also are not allowed watches or any other way of determining their time. But fair play to these guys they gave it a go

Be under no illusion that the weapon system is at times carried any way one can or is used as help; what DS don't see they don't know.

Fan Dance Selection weight is 45lbs. Then you add food and water on top and carry a rifle. 4hrs cut off - front group come in 3hrs 50mins.

@@OMT988 you are right - I went through in 2007 Winter and it was 45lbs then plus SLR (the last time it was used before the rubber demarco was brought in) - we came in bang on 3:50 and I remember a 10mins window for those who dropped off the DS. But that could’ve been 4:10. Now it’s 50lbs, and in Summer it’s plus smock, food and water! I’m currently coaching a few lads for this course inbound in a few days

Now imagine doing Selection with a canvas A-frame bergan, boots, ankle, DMS, puttees, no goretex, no modern nutrition ..... and no tattoos and big muscles to help you 😁

Although i never did selection i did find though that when doing BFT's setting off early & fast made the gap too much for most of the other participants to catch up by the middle to end of the test. Although i was depleted of electrolytes towards the end it was too much distance for the rest to catch. I was certainly no 'racing snake' so adopted my own style to get a decent time.

Ah, maan keep to the right footwear bro - that's like tech doping. A reasonable effort though. My father Terry Jickells and Lofty (Wiseman) ran selection. I'd hear stories and have done some good training up there myself. Yeah, good hills to be tested on.

I have seen a few of sheps videos and I’m sure he could have gone quicker than that. The other bloke wearing trainers as well. I’m not blowing my own trumpet but I’ve done this event twice in summer 2015 and winter 2016 in 3.28 and 3.30hrs. I came 6th both times and I was 40yrs old at the time. For ex boot necks your time is shite. Sort your cardio and endurance out lads 👊👊 I expect the navigation slowed you down a bit though?

Doing the civvy one is a walk in the park. You don't carry the PROPER weight, the weapon, have your feet and back in bits or have the lack of sleep or any sleep before doing it. Don't compare the civvy one to the actual one as it's not the same

Where was the jogging on the flat ish and downhill parts? Not enough weight or wpns. You should know dont set off too fast too soon. Thats beginner stuff. Weather looked about right. Also need a windproof top on. At least your out dooing it.

All this prep, all this research you put in, all the work to do the trek and everyone that makes a video on this part of SAS training still calling in Pen y 'Fan' with an F sound... the F is a V sound - has been this way in Wales for thousands of years. It's like going to Norwich and saying NorWich with a W sound or going to Reading and calling it REEding.. The name for this mountain has been used for centuries now. Please learn to say it correctly.
