The third marine chronometer, completed by John Harrison in 1757, in his pursuit the prize offered to the person who successfully produced a method of measuring longitude. On exhibit in the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. If you have not read Dava Sobel's book, Longitude, I highly recommend it.
