The mileage on the paper that says 42 is a typo either on my part whenever I filled out the paperwork or their part probably More on my part It's 242k obviously If you've been following the journey then you realize that it is a typo and you can't roll the odometer back on the car which I've been showing every single video.... it's the same vehicle so there's no way that I can skew that... it was literally a typo If you have any questions on what is being done with the oil testing or if you have any questions on any of this at all you need to ask right here in this pin post because I'm not going to be answering the same question 10 different times because people don't read the comments

I was definitely looking forward to the Royal Purple analysis. I am glad to see that it performed so well. My former employer is a very opinionated fellow. We were discussing different oils and when I asked his opinion of Royal Purple he said it was garbage. When I told him that I ran Castrol GTX for years that was garbage too. He stocks Amsoil, Amalie, Wolf's Head, Motul, Penzoil, and Lucas. The budget line of oil is Parts Master. Wolf's Head (made by Amalie) was our biggest seller. As long as you follow a strict OCI I don't think you can go wrong with any of the motor oils or quality filters on the market today. Thankyou for conducting these tests.

We use all royal purple oil in our fleet of over 82 trucks at work, gas and diesel. Service intervals range from 5000-10,000 miles with premium filters installed and oil samples have always come back with good results and never anything bad. Never found traces of sludge or varnish in the pans or valve covers either. Engines run smoother and seem to hold better oil pressure then say with factory oil or conventional. Always get a laugh out of the “bulk” oil salesman’s when they try to tell me how much better their oil is and XYZ until I ask them for a spec sheet on their oil and that I currently run R.P. then they suddenly are not so proud of their oil. Yes it it expensive oil and not for everyone but when you can benefit off of longer service intervals, longer engine life, and less fleet downtime, it saves drastically!

I just heard a statistic that only 25% of American car owners properly maintain their vehicles. I heard it on The car doctor Q&A show/podcast. It's nice to see these scientific results you display. I maintain four 20 plus year old Toyota cars. All stop and go driving. I just buy bulk entry level oil filters and each of my adult kids buys their jug (usually Super tech) of 5w30 and I change their oil every 3,000 miles. My employer has an oil recycling container at work. Nice channel Boss Me.
@johnstuartsmith Жыл бұрын
I suspect that the people who swear that their vehicle has only been serviced with XXXX brand oil and that they've never had any problems are far more likely to really have reliable, long-lasting vehicles than the 75% of drivers who never bother with any kind of maintenance until the car won't run any more. Maybe some oil is better than others, but anybody who cares enough to have a sense of loyalty to any oil brand probably cares enough to be actually changing it fairly regularly, and engines are better off with an oil pan full of clean, regularly changed cheap no-name stuff that barely meets the specifications instead of some worn-out super-expensive ultra-premium stuff that has spent way too many miles and years of collecting contaminants.

I recently switched and tried Royal Purple for the first time in my truck which is an 06 F-150 with the 5-4 engine. I decided to step up one from the regular Royal Purple you find off the shelf and I used Royal Purple HPS 5w 30. The reason why I chose Royal Purple HPS was according to Royal Purple the Royal Purple HPS oil is not restricted by the API licensing which gives Royal Purple more freedom to make a better performance-oriented oil. Royal Purple HPS has a much higher zinc and phosphorus content with an overall much stronger additive package compared to the Royal Purple you find off-the-shelf that is API licensed. If your vehicle is still under warranty you should use the Royal Purple that is API licensed If not Royal Purple HPS is a really good oil. I've been very satisfied with it I'm actually switching from Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to that oil there's not really a big price difference between the two ether.

The increase in viscosity may be from oxidation. Typically you see oils shear out of grade as and stabilize within a certain viscosity range. The viscosity seems rather steady throughout multiple samples and then climbs. Hard to say if the oil started higher in the viscosity range or if it oxidized to that point without a virgin oil sample. From the samples in front of me I would definitely use Pennzoil PU. The increase in sodium over what the remainder of the tests have been is possibly from an additive or engine coolant. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

I still use the Royal Purple oil filters as I think they do well and I get them for a great price. Also why are you running 5w-30 in the 4.6 ford? It calls for 5w-20. I run the proper 5w-20 in my Mustang.

This just popped up on my suggestions page. But I'm aware it's two years old. So having said all that. I've been running RP in my truck ever since I got it. A 1997 F-150 4x4 4.6L 2 valve (VIN 6) with just over 325K on the lower rotating assembly and about 150K on the heads (For those that don't know. It's an OHC (Overhead Cam) engine.). So I'm not at all surprised by this lab report. But at far as "real world" daily use. The RP really preforms. Doesn't matter if I'm in town doing stop and go driving, off-roading during hunting season, doing some mild rock (more like a really rough ditch) crawling, or having some fun at an off-road park or local mud "puddle". To date RP hasn't let me down. But once it starts heading off-road I generally won't run the engine oil anywhere near 5K. Now that might change with the addition of another filter and cooler. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm going to add a remote duel filter system the uses two FL1A (or a PH8 in Fram). Although I'll be running WIX filters, I don't have there P#'s memorized yet. And of course the engine oil cooler, as stated above. But anyway, I know I'm just a nobody. But I highly recommend RP to anyone.

I'm still sticking with platinum ultra. With the sale prices and rebates, it's too good of a price/oil to pass on.

I USED ROYAL PURPLE ON MY LAST OIL CHANGE AND IT doesn't TAP AT ALL ON STARTUP AT ALL . I USED MOBIL 1 BEFORE I MADE THE SWITCH AND IT ALWAYS MADE A TAPPING NOISE FOR ABOUT A MINUTE ON STARTUP RP FROM NOW ON FOR ME

I had a friend who swore by RP. I never could afford it back then. Now I own that 6.7L diesel, so I imagine different things are important. I need to find somebody who is doing with a diesel what you're doing with a gasoline engine.

2017 f150 5.0 here with 70k miles. Ran two changes of RP starting at 60k. Looking in the oil fill hole motor was absolutely spotless as new. Was so quiet at idle you couldn't feel or hear it run. Changed back to Motorcraft semi and it's no where near as quiet. Can't wait to go back with RP.

Semi synthetic oil will never be in any of my "stuff" There are no standards to call an oil semi synthetic. It may contain as little as 5% to 10% synthetic. You don't know what you're getting. I don't like surprises, I don't trust oil companies.

In the time since you posted that, the availability of Royal Purple 🟣 has increased substantially, and is now regularly on sale at Advanced auto, and competitively priced at Walmart.

I run royal purple in all my vehicles except my 84 Toyota which I run shell rotella because I work at a truck leasing facility and people leave jugs under the sleeper bunks all the time probably have 30 gallons sitting in my garage and the 22r loves 15w40 it’s like a honey badger it just doesn’t give a shit.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is cheaper than Royal Purple at Walmart. $24 vs $38 for a 5 quart. I’ll definitely be running one of the two from now on though.

I run amsoil XL since it’s the only thing I can find in a full synthetic 10w40 that isn’t Mobil 1 or some Dino oil and I can tell you right now rich the Amsoil XL 10w40 made my 32 year old bmw motor much quieter after 5000 miles then when I was using Mobil 1. That motor also had a headgasket that was just starting to leak, a bent valve and a flat cam which i found out after I started using amsoil XL and I’m happy I used it. My oil consumption went down to only using less then a quart between oil changes due to an oil leak where before I was using 2-2.5 quarts between oil changes with Mobil 1 and using Lucas oil stabilizer. It burned quicker without the stabilizer.

I tried Rotella gas truck, had alot of sludge, clumps when I drained the oil. I've never tried it since. Kinda disappointed. Figured it being shell/Pennzoil it would be great. But I've seen it EVERYWHERE on clearance like they can't give it away, so I'll be interested in what you find.
