FELLAS THE OIL USED AT THE AMSOIL CHANGE WAS 5W20 NOT 5w30 so the shear was not as bad as suspected But was still not as good as Penzoil Platinum which did better under heat testing And mobil the same way it did jot do as good under heat testing PPU - was right in spec

The range for 5w20 viscosity @ 100C is 5.60 to 9.29, the amsoil scored 8.52, very high in the upper range of correct oil grade. While pennzoil was 9.74 in a 9.1 to 11.3 range, closer to the lower end. And heavier oil also has a higher flashpoint, but I do believe pennzoil has a higher flashpoint which is great for high performance hot engines. So by the results with different weights, the amsoil actually seems better imho for the average vehicle, but def not cost wise.

My wife’s 2004 Lexus RX330 (255K miles) used to burn a quart of oil between oil changes when using Mobil 1. When I switched over to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic High Milage, she hasn’t burned a single drop and gets a couple more miles to the gallon than before. For me this is the best bang for your buck oil out there. Hands down.

We routinely did SOAP sampling on engines and gearboxes when I was in the Air Force (Spetrometric Oil Analysis Program). We had one engine on an H-53 "make oil", as it was overflowing the reservoir in the cabin. (Used to pump up replenishment oil in flight). No one really had a clue as to where the extra oil was coming from so it was ignored 2-3 months. Pre and postflight inspections are done with cue cards in hand, so when the card said check to see that reservoir was full...yeah, it was full. Waddaya expect from an 18yo airman 6 months out of high school. Somebody finally decided to take an oil sample and found that it was 99% jet fuel with a dash of engine lube. Turned out that a seal between the fuel control mounted on the engine, via the quill shaft that drove the fuel control from the geartrain internal to the engine was allowing high(er) pressure fuel to migrate into the oil system. Even tho the engine was running normally and metals were within limits, the engine was pulled. You might remember, the old school automotive fuel pumps mounted on the engine block would sometimes rip a diaphram and allow gasoline to go into the oil pan.

On Valvoline Advanced Synthetic right now doing 3k OIC. Engine runs so much smoother and quiet with the 3k intervals. Was doing 5k since purchase, but $35 every 4 months to extend my engine's life...priceless. The only noise or peeve is the HPfuel pump on the cam gear for the direct injection, it's not loud, just irritating.

Castrol Edge quieted some start up and running chain rattle I was getting after I experimented with using Mobil-1 which ended up being the worst oil I've tried so far, ended up dumping it after 500 miles because of previously non-existent lifter tap and chain rattle. SuperTech oil was much better than the Mobil-1 but still some noise present which 1/3 a quart of Hy-Per Lube Oil Supplement added to the SuperTech got rid of but the Castrol Edge Euro (0W-40) vanquished the noise all on it's own with the only negative being a slight decrease in MPG's.

Personally I have never Used the Penzoil Platinum Ultra "Ever". However, I'am willing to give it a try Since I'am an AMSOIL DEALER I am Alway's Open to trying Something Different. Back in the Day, we stayed away from Penzoil, Valveoline was my Go To Oil. But now day's things are different and HOT! So I'll Buy a SIX PAK of the Penzoil Plat Ultra and See if it's got any Benefit's. It be Noted tho, it will be the 5/20 for our 2018 3.5 V6 Non Turbo. We'll see. Good Video Rich. Sorry I'am a Little Late On this response.

Just bought Kirkland synthetic for my wife’s car. $30 for 10 quarts and it’s supposed to be the same as the super tech I have in there now. Since super tech creeped up in price I’m gonna try this from Costco. Both made by warren.
@JA-rn5qv
@JA-rn5qv 2 жыл бұрын
It's because Warren got bought out by a private equity company owned by the family that inherited the Hyatt hotel chain, one of whom was commerce secretary under Obama. Shortly after that buyout is when the the SuperTech prices started to climb. Used to be that SuperTech Full Synthetic was about $10 cheaper for 5 quart jug than the big name brands such as Mobil-1, Pennzoil, etc.. but after 3 price hikes they are now the same or more than the big brands. Same thing happened with Amazon Basics oil. I'm guessing in the case of Costco they are either selling through backstock or they are using it as a loss-leader which would make sense but definitely was disappointed to see that Warren had sold out.

Hmmmm, I've been running Amsoil Signature in my 2017 Hemi Ram 1500, since I bought it 3 1/2 years ago, with 24k on it, have loved it, engine runs and definitely starts better, none of that dry lifter tapping on the cold starts, just runs nice and smooth, but like most that might argue, the price point, sure I get it a little cheaper, but still had to purchase the membership to do that, for considerably cheaper and the same protection, might have to give Pennzoil a try, thanks for the info, man, keep up the great work. Oh, and my Hemi does have flood mode :) :) thanks for that as well. Sorry for your loss, sir.

@matthewwatson572
@matthewwatson572 2 жыл бұрын
@@davileett1224 Are you comparing the Amsoil numbers with member pricing? That makes a big difference. But yeah, I could do 2 oil changes with Penn Ultra to Amsoil 1, thats using Signature, you can get the lower grade oils that would be cheaper too. Me personally, I just like how Amsoil works in my Hemi better, runs better sounds better and has better oil pressure, I've sent both oils for testing and it tests better. I only put about 6 -7 k miles a year on my truck, so 85.00 for one oil change of Amsoil Signature a year, is worth it to me :)

@@matthewwatson572 Yes, I am comparing prices with member pricing, which isn't free either. 8 jugs is $191 vs $346 pre tax. What is the largest differences in the testing? I am not going to deny that Amsoil is better by a slight margin, but with a 50% price difference I cannot seem to pull the trigger on buying Amsoil.

@@davileett1224 Yeah, I'm hardly bashing Penn Ultra either, it's a great oil, I mean heck, the Hellcats come from the factory with it in them. My testing numbers were slightly better on the metals and flashpoint, but the Pennz was still within the good rating. For me, it's more how my engine is responding and acting, it just sounds better idling, no lifter tap on startup and better oil pressure at idle, so that's why I did stay with the Amsoil, trying to beat the odds of that dang lifter/cam issue, some of these Hemi's have. To be honest, if my engine sounded and did as good with Pennz, Royal Purple or even Mobil 1, yes, I've tried them all, lol, I'd go with one of them, I'm not one of those Amsoil fanboys, lol, yes, it's more, but in the grand scheme of motor work, still cheap :)

@@matthewwatson572 yeah, I tried to convince myself to get some Amsoil, I guess I am just too cheap as I do short oil change intervals anyway. I inherited a truck from my dad and just did the first oil change since owning it. Come to find out he had paid $100 for the guy to not even change the oil and break the plug seal at 5k miles. Luckily I changed early at 7500 for peace of mind. Still pissed break in oil went that long.

Sorry about your uncle Rich, hopefully you will be able to site see some and ease your pain, IF you are near the gulf see if you can get down to Fort Morgan built from 1813 to 1833 ONE BRICK at a time and they had no air-conditioning at night to sleep back then, They were some tough dude's ,it has an interesting history as does Fort Pickens in Florida, WOW, you really cleared the air with this test on getting the MOST BANG for your buck in oil, Something to think about going with Amsoil is their recommended 20,000 mile oil change interval to make their oil COST EFFECTIVE , My self IF I was to go to 100 % synthetic I would go with the Pennzoil ultra platinum 5W/30 and CHANGE it every 5000 miles like I'm doing NOW with Motorcraft Blend 5W/30 made by Conoco / Phillips in my new 2021 F-150 with the 5.0 , Motorcraft Blend 5W/30 is not always on the shelf at our local Walmart so when they had it I bough 3 changes ahead just to have it on hand , Are you still planning to do a 5,000 ,mile test on it to see how it stacks up to the 100% synthetic oils to see what the cost / benefit ratio is , Hell I might just stay with the Motorcraft Blend 5W/30 being as my OLD 2007 Expy I bought new with the 5.4 that everyone hates never gave me any issues what so ever over 14 years running Motorcraft Blend 5W 20 , Anyway, THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO WITH THIS PAGE, John

I had a bit of a bad experience with pennzoil once, can't recall what type of oil it was and it was probably close to 10 years ago. Might have been the semi-synthetic blend or something. I usually do go with full synthetic everytime but it definitely wasn't the platinum. But the car was also pretty clapped out. Sort of turned me off of Pennzoil tho. But I've only heard good things about pennzoil platinum. Pretty much any full synthetic imo is good oil. If the engine is tired or sludged up, high mileage, etc. Just change the oil more frequently like 3,000 miles for the first two oil changes. I've been using valvoline full synthetic in all my vehicles that's my current favorite. Just off hand I think it has a slight edge on mobile 1. Slightly more quiet at idle, etc. It's also slightly cheaper than mobile 1. I prefer to get all my oil and filters at walmart, valv full synthetic and fram ultra synthetic has been my go to combo for years now quite pleased with them.

I recently tried several different versions of Mobil-1 (advanced 5W-30. 0W-30 ESP, 0W-20 AFE) and in every case it make my vehicle sound like a tractor which no other motor oil, not even conventional had done. Ended up with lifter tap as well as start up chair rattle and running chain tap. Gave up on the Mobil-1, dumped in SuperTech full Synthetic (5W-30 regular version) noises greatly reduced but still present, added 1/3 a quart of Hy-Per Lube Oil Supplement to the ST oil and eliminated chain noise, start up rattle greatly reduced. Other vehicle, same year/make/model/miles same noise issues on M-1 switched to Castrol Edge 0W-40 resulting in all noises gone including start up rattle, chain, and running silky smooth. Even Quaker State Full Synthetic ran much better than any M-1 did. Haven't tried Pennz Plat-Ultra but might some time although so far the Castrol Edge 0W-40 give me no reason to. Still might do it as a comparison though.

I guess it all depends what side of the isle you're on, been running Amsoil for years, in Harley D's to all my cars, when independents conducted the roller bearing, test, heat test, cold test, Amsoil shinned, so in closing like I said in the beginning depends what side of the isle you're on, I just bought a brand new Scat Pack, & the temps when Amsoil was added, down by 6% which means heat less friction, nothing but ++++'s for Amsoil, I live in Central Florida, all my biker friends, Ams, & vehicles also. Why did the military switch to Amsoil, because it is the best!!

The problem is people start running an oil and they love it and there's nothing wrong with that and it works for them and then they tell everybody else oh it's the best it's the best and it's not they just have a bias and they want everybody else to believe they're bias but then you run across some guy like me that actually does physical testing on stuff that can show you what you're bias is to you should not be everybody else's reality

And when you speak about independent testing there's not a lot of independent testing there's a couple guys on KZbin that have done some stuff and maybe a couple labs and that's it there's been no extensive testing done on Amsoil through independent testing like you said

Both part 1 and part 2 were quite interesting. After your emphatic posts about OCI, I'm not going to go over 4,000 miles on my 2015 Audi Q5 2.0 liter, which has a piston ring clogging problem and carbon issues anyhow. Perhaps no more than 3,000 miles OCI from now on. As far as this video: right now I'm using Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W-40. I'd like to try the ULTRA Platinum 0W-40, but they are not on the VW 502/505 list. It seems the ULTRA could provide more TBN and cleanliness than Platinum. Oddly, VW still lists Castrol 5W-30 Euro with its AP SL as approved oil for this Audi. I'd be surprised if it provides anything as good as the non VW approved ULTRA Platinum 0W-40. Go figure.

Noticed that on the Amsoil website there are 2 different 0w-40 weight oils, the Signature Series and the Synthetic European. Wondering if you know the differences between the 2 oils. I know it says something about emission regulations for European vehicles but could not find any other information comparing the 2 oils. Since the European version has the Porsche A40 specification that is the one I will likely need for my car but was wondering if you know of any other differences between those 2 oils.
