I'm pro-dining package. However, I wish that they would let us make the reservations before we sail. It's a hassle to rush and make all the reservations on Embarkation Day.

Do you have to go to each restaurant to make the reservations or just through the app once onboard?

If you didn't get the dining package ahead of time, they will have a desk on the Promenade and the staff member there who is selling the packages can help make the reservations for you or you can go to any restaurant and they will help.

The way they do it makes sense for Royal. They make more money from selling specialty restaurants separately from the package. The package gives you a discount, but you can't book in advance, so that's the difference. The package can be frustrating when you can't get the reservation times that you want.

Im going on a 4 nights cruise is it worthy to get dining package? or just pick a 1 or 2 special restaurant to try when I get onboard I don’t need to try all the food anyways Im only into japanese food.

Matt, Another couple of reasons, is that you're expected to dress up for some of the specialty restaurants. Also, once your wait staff knows your likes, they will really go above and beyond to make your meals special. We just cam off of Royal Caribbean cruise this morning and our wait staff took fantastic care of us. Early on during our cruise our head waiter asked us how our food was. We mentioned that it would be nice if the serving of vegetables could be a bit larger. Every night after that they brought us an extra plate of multiple vegetables. Our waiter also encouraged me to choose both a soup and salad appetizer. And there was more. The guys were great, so we were happy to give them an extra tip at the end of our cruise. If there is anything that you like or disike about your meals, let your wait staff know. They will bend over backwards to let you know how much they want you to value your experience.

LOL I was on Harmony in December. On Tenderloin night I joked that it was awesome but a slice or two more would have made it better. Two minutes later I had another serving LOL. I think the dining room was excellent on Harmony and while we did a couple of specialty restaurants but honestly you don't need to.

Another pro for the dining package is if you have food allergies. With food allergies, our choices of restaurants are limited since most of the buffets and grab and go areas have too much cross contamination. That only leaves the main dining room as our only option. The signature restaurants however are safer since we can speak to the waiter and the chef about our food allergies and they are usually very accommodating.

My wife and I did the unlimited dining package a couple of years ago on a seven night cruise and it's a requirement from now on. It was a different dining experience for us because we did not have to cram everything into one sitting at one of the specialty restaurants. Wonderland is our favorite, and we ended up going there multiple times on that cruise, each time having a different fun experience. In fact, on the last night, they just brought us our favorite things. Very personalized service. We will be on symphony of The seas later this year and yes we took advantage of the 55% discount and already purchased the unlimited dining package for the cruise.

I'm going on my first cruise in a couple weeks and have to say I'm really looking forward to Wonderland. Everything I've seen about it seems so just fun and whimsical. Granted there are one or two things I may stay away from like the tomato water (but I don't like tomatoes sssssoooo...)

The first few years we cruised we went to the MDR. It was fine but crowded. As we tried a specialty dining one or twice on a cruise we came to appreciate the ambiance and developing a relationship with the staff and still being able to order and eat what we wanted. My advice to first time cruisers to eat at complimentary restaurants including the MDR. Also, track your cocktail expenditures and determine for yourself if you find value in the package or pay as you go. The bottom line is to relax and enjoy.

A word of advice for people looking to purchase a dining package - don't wait for the last couple of months to buy them online. I was excited to finally be going on my first Transatlantic cruise, after cancellations in 2020 and 2021, on Wonder of the Seas and enjoying the specialty restaurants. I waited with bated breath for them to be announced and even downloaded all the menus. A few weeks ago, about 2 months away, I went online to buy a dining package and none were showing up. I checked daily. Now we are 30 days out and I called and was told that they sold out a long time ago. And will not be going back on sale now or in the future or onboard. I did the math and I might be able to eat at Wonderland and Izumi, 2 meals, for the price of the 5 dining package.

Pro-dining package. I'm very organized & head straight to any restaurant on the 1st day to make all our reservations for the week. This is all worked out beforehand. Better to reschedule if necessary. Our deal was around $220 each for the week.

I LOVE Unlimited Dining Pkg, ESPECIALLY when it's just my wife of brother with me on the cruise. Each dinner feels more like a "Special Night Out"! With a larger group, I'd do the MDR with maybe one night out at Izumi Hibachi, or a night away from the group. Also, I've found is easy to request my waiter at any specialty restaurant if you find one that's exceptional! Happy Sails To You!

I booked unlimited package for a 14 day repositioning cruise with 9 sea days. So in theory I can eat at the specialty restaurants 22 times during the cruise. I'm not likely to do so, but for the $320 cost that's a potential of only $14+ per meal. I also prefer a fish-heavy diet, so being able to eat many times at Izumi is for me a plus. I believe the chef's table is not full price if one has the unlimited package. One con you might have mentioned is that it might be better to skip on the 3 and 5 day cruises where there are enough complimentary dining spots for variety. Booking an inside cabin also meant that paying for the package means paying less than a lot of people with balconies in total.

Definitely PRO dining packages, but generally speaking, the 3-night package is enough. UDP is fun, especially if you have a lot of sea days and you're using it for lunch, like on a transatlantic. But it is a TON of food, something you really have to be ready for.

I have it purchased for my Oasis cruise but since my family likes the MDR and I do too, I'm in a cabin solo so I purchased it for myself, but I'm wondering if I really need it. Maybe I'll do it on a solo crusie. It looks great but honestly I can not afford to gain the weight I would from eating all that food.

This must be very new, because this is the first time I’ve seen it, but it looks like Chef’s Table is now available as an up charge similar to hibachi: In the fine print on Cruise Planner for my upcoming Symphony cruise: For ships with these venues, Teppanyaki/Izumi Hibachi is included, with a $10 surcharge, Chef's Table is included, with a $49.99 surcharge, and Dadong is included, with a $35 surcharge. These will be charged once onboard.

As a solo cruiser I am Pro dining package I prefer the smaller dining rooms of specially restaurant to walking through the main dining room pass hundreds of people each night to get to my table. I will do the main dining room one night of my cruise which is lobster night but the lobsters are getting so small I am considering giving it a miss going forward.

Just got done sailing on the Navigator on a 7N cruise. My wife and I got the ULD package. This was the 2nd time we did it and we LOVE IT. Specialty restaurant every night and the food was DELICIOUS!! Worth every penny and then some. I do agree that I wish reservations could be made ahead of time when using the ULD package. My guess is that they want the "prime-time" slots for those guests paying A-la-Carte. My wife and I ate at 8:00pm every night which was what we wanted. The one night we had a 8:30pm reservation, we showed up at 7:45 and they sat us right down. Having only 2200 pax does help in that regard.

I think the unlimited dining package is good if you will use it. It’s no problem to make bookings if you call any restaurant on embarkation day and make all your reservations. If you look at the cost of the dining paid for individually versus the package it would help you make a decision. We only went to each restaurant once and honestly preferred the MDR. We felt the service in the specialty dining was stuffy and I felt the need to tip when I was given a bill for $0.00 and pre paid my gratuities already. We now just stick to MDR and anytime dining and the opportunity for room service, pizza by the pool or buffet. We were disappointed with Johnny Rockets and the found the burgers in the buffet were nicer (less greasy).

We've never bought a dining package, but we have eaten at one specialty restaurant on each of our four cruises. They're nice, but I wouldn't want to do it every night. We eat in the main dining room, and even did the buffet one night when we were tired.

The common complaint is that it’s a lot of food. But do what I do, don’t feel like you have to eat everything. I rarely eat dessert or just have the fruit plate for dessert. I love the French onion soup but sometimes I even skip that.

I wish they had something like chef's table for non-drinkers. As a non-drinker I feel the packages as well as the pay dining options are a waste for us. We are eating at Wonderland on our next cruise for our daughter's birthday, but we're just paying for that one dining experience. We are not soda drinker either. We like smoothies and fancy fruit based drinks, but they really don't have much in this category offered that would make any kind of drink package a good option for us.

Booked a Grand Suite on Quantum this May specifically to get Coastal Kitchen in lieu of purchasing the UDP. It might have just been that ship, but the food was really terrible. We were so disappointed that after the 2nd night, we never went back. We're doing a 14 day Transatlantic this October and I immediately booked the UDP. Also important to know that a lot of times the Hibachi restaurant is booked up before you even get onboard, so having the UDP doesn't guarantee you an Hibachi dinner, unfortunately.

That is a great ship to purchase the Unlimited Dining Package because you can just about eat at a different restaurant each night. I purchased it for Oasis. Not sure if I'm keeping it because my family likes to eat in the MDR. I'm in a cabin solo so I purchased for myself. In my research someone said with the Unlimited Dining Package to get something from Playmakers whenever you are near it. The Package is Unlimited after all. Some have said that they have gotten wings from Playmakers or sushi from Izumi to go for a late night snack. There are so many options with the UDP on the bigger ships.

I’ve heard over and abundantly that the food on the royal Caribbean ships in the main dining rooms is just OK. But people rave about the specialty dining. So I bought the unlimited package. Keep in mind, it’s free for children under five as long as they eat off the kids menu. Do you have to use a package on the first or second night of the shift and I was able to make my reservation for the first night.

Myself and my son had the three night dining package on board the Allure of the Seas in December 2021. I enjoyed it sooo much. I am going on the Harmony of the Seas at the end of May 2022 by myself. And I purchased the unlimited dining package. For me, I can’t wait. I love trying different foods and atmospheres. So for me this will be an adventure and a comfort at the same time. I’m not a big fan of the Windjammer and main dining room for me was just so so. Don’t get me wrong the food was good but the specialty dining was superb!! It’s really a personal preference. You can’t go wrong either way. After all you’ll be cruising. What’s not to like!! Bon appétit everyone! Cheers!!

We just did the 3 night on wonder recently and they denied us our $20/day at playmakers which is in addition to the 3 premium restaurants. I even showed them the screen shots from their own site cause it’s worded the same as the ultimate. I called after the cruise and confirmed I was right but refused to do anything about it just assuring me it wouldn’t happen again. I love RC and will never stop cruising just really frustrating not a single person on that ship knew what they were talking about…

Port side bbq maybe but I can’t remember, definitely not sushi. Ultimate gets you lunch at premium places on sea days which sushi would be included but I don’t remember if it was pre fixe only or an amount option. Been awhile now but should be explained in the description though last I checked they really need to clean up the language and be more clear cause of that incident on wonder

The prices for the specialty restaurants have increased drastically over the past few years. We've tried every restaurants on several different cruises because they were gifted to us from our cruise agency. We found each of them to be EXTREMELY underwhelming. The service was subpar at each restaurant, and in our opinion, the food and experience was far worse than what we get at Windjammer. We are not pretentious foodies, yet we still had complaints about nearly every aspect of each specialty dining experience on Royal Caribbean. We decided that we will no longer waste our time on specialty restaurants, even when they are gifted to us. They have really been that bad.

I have a question. My husband and I are going on our first cruise later this year, and we have purchased the UDP. Are you allowed to go to MDR for early seating, and then go to a specialty restaurant later that evening? I understand that would be a lot of food, but we embark the cruise the day that my husband completes his 3rd marathon in 9 weeks, and therefore he will require large quantities of food for the following few days. The idea of a "dinner" AND a "2nd dinner" would be ideal, as he wouldn't have to eat everything at once.

Unlimited has no appeal for me. I can't fathom paying that much for access to those restaurants when there's so many included, free options. I would consider $20 extra for a special meal, but $40-$50 is a lot when you could eat free. That's a nice meal on land and I'd rather save it for a night out at home.

There’s only two specialty restaurants you’d have to sit with others: chefs table and Izumi hibachi

Are you able to purchase a couple 3 day dining packages within the same cruise? My husband and I will be doing an 8 night cruise coming up but the unlimited dining package seems too much as we won’t utilize it all 8 nights and we don’t have the desire to use it for lunch on sea days. However we think 6 nights of it would be nice and don’t want to spend all the money on individual reservations. So would we both be able to buy two 3 day dining packages? Thank you for any info!!

How are the specialty restaurants set up? Can you order 2 or 3 entrees/appetizers/deserts/etc.? Or is it limited to 1 appetizer 1 entree 1 dessert?

I’ve got a question if anyone could help out. Q. If I’m going on a 7 day 6 night cruise, can I get a dining package for 3 or 4 of those nights and not be obligated to have to purchase a 6 night dining package? Is this possible or does the dining package I purchase have to reflect the amount of nights I’m cruising for? Thanks for the help!

There are 3-Night packages as well as unlimited. Or you can pay a la cart (everything separately)
