I was at the service for Diana in Wellington, New Zealand. The Archbishop mentioned the service was for the three people, Dodi Fayed, Diana and Henri Paul. Every time, he mentioned all three. I was so happy he included everyone who died. They are all equally important as human beings.

I remember when Princess Diana passed. Everyone was in shock, it was unexpected and tragic. I understand why people were so upset at what they perceived as an uncaring Queen and Royal Family, however at that time protocol did not allow for response. It was not until the people demanded it that the Queen was able to change the rules. I believe she was more than happy to do so and truly loved Diana as did the rest of the world. The Queen's passing although not unexpected still stings. She has always been one of my heros.

She was right to keep William and Harry away from the media and the people they were children for god sake not peforming monkey's at a time like this! No one expected such a public outpouring of grief for Diana it was massive people were sobbing for her and knowing how badly the royals treated her stirred their anger and the media loved it and made it worse. The Queen was badly advised she probably should have done a speech and the stayed silent aftwards and looked after William and Harry. Charles was also trying to deal with his own guilt at how he treated Diana hence why he was all for a state public funeral

The Royal Standard at Buck house has always and is only ever flown when the monarch is in residence. I think a lot of folk were angry partly because maybe they felt some grief over their own demands on Diana’s life and privacy. The press was, and still is happy to accommodate that!!

I was young when this happened. While I wasn't emotional about someone I didn't know, I do remember thinking about how awful it must have been for her boys, to lose their mom. I am an American. So I can say, without them trying to throw me in jail... God, I don't think you should save the king.

I think sometimes people make a big deal of the queens small gestures of human kindness but in the end that was what made the queen the best monarch we’ve ever and will ever have she was with us and she tried to be as human and as in line with us as she possibly could without breaking the rules and she knew it was abit silly to make a fuss over those gestures because it should’ve just been the standard anyway she stood up for us she defended us with her husband when she was young and continued to make good moral gestures to set the example when she had suppressed that age where she could fight for us she was very modest this country has truly lost its greatest matriarch

I always thought the anger behind the lack of presence of the royal family was so immature yet natural. Everyone was expecting the stages of grief, and part of that is anger. I do believe Her Majesty made the right call to be a grandmother for her grandsons who just lost an integral part of their life in such a devastating manner.

HM was one that could read a room. HM hadn't known someone as dynamic as Princess Diana but she learned. HM took that time to grieve and study Diana and found the formula and used it herself. HM knew how to adapt. However, the moral of this story is what saved HM's reputation was her honesty and candidness. HM, in this moment threw the never explain policy out the window and explained the situation to everyone. Everyone knew where she stood and why. It was HM that gave Princess Diana to the world. So, the world expected HM to show she respected her own selection.

@@susanlockyer1192 No she shouldn't. Her first duty was the Charles and boys - of course it was. But... she should have made a brief "holding statement" tribute from Balmoral as soon as possible after the news broke. Either on TV or in writing. Acknowledge the fact that the nation is grieving for Diana, explain why she will be staying at Balmoral for a few days and promise a full speech when she and the princes return to Buckingham Palace later in the week. Total silence looked bad and uncaring. And then when she made the full speech, she should at least have *tried* to sound as if she meant it. ;-)

I think this had to be hard for the whole family. She had her grandsons to worry about. I loved Diana but her interview with Basheir made some scathing remarks about all of them. Bottom line, they may be royals, but they are human beings with very real human feelings. I salute the queen for all she did. Most of all for all she did for Diana’s boys!
