Carlos Acosta is like that really cool teacher at high school that every student loves and that the older teachers get jealous of because they'll never be as funny. He looks so much fun to work with. Loved the choreography too!

The difference between first run through, then second run through after the 'alone at last' talk is so noticeable. The lightness, love and fun in their performance - beautiful.

I love how Carlos put humanity in classical ballet. "They are people. You're not relaxing in pose." He can make the dancers feel at ease and truly understand the emotion. Vadim and Akane are soooo graceful! Beautiful! Thank you ROH for uploading this video :)

Agreed! At their first run through I didn’t understand the story of the dance until Carlos stopped them and explained the meaning behind those movements. After that they danced with a purpose and you can see the emotions translating into body language. “We’re alone at last!” 😉

Carlos Acosta certainly is an inspirational tutor to those, and other, young dancers. His production of "Don Quixote" is a breath of fresh air to classical ballet - I loved how he 'added humanity' to the staid image of ballet by introducing some live musicians to perform on the stage and involving his performers in some lively applause etc. I had the great good fortune to attend the Gala Premiere of "Don Quixote" and now look forward to the premiere of Carlos's production of "Carmen" for the Royal Ballet next season.

In case anyone was wondering, the music is actually from La Bayadere, Act 1, scene "Solor vows love to Nikiya". I didn't realize that until I listened to La Bayadere and thought, "this sounds familiar..." Anyways, fantastic performance! I loved the acting, and the commentary was spot-on XD

@s022297 жыл бұрын
sopranosd the guy with the Spanish accent, Carlos Acosta, choreographed this. he is a famous dancer in his own rights
@sopranosd7 жыл бұрын
I wondered about that. It's really fun choreography - more narrative. I have seen Acosta doing this very duet on youtube. He is an amazing dancer as well.
@poojasinha99837 жыл бұрын
the original choreography, aka the actual dance movements etc, is by Marius Petipa. depending on the choreographer of the performance the company stages, there can be small changes that they are accredited with, mostly to do with movement and their own touches (Acosta telling Akane to go into that pirouette from that soutenu for example) but the original choreography is always credited to the original choreographer, in this case, Marius Petipa :)
@BalletomaneM7 жыл бұрын
Petipa didn't choreograph this PDD. This is music normally used in La Bayadere. Acosta brought it into his DQ and choreographed this.

I loved the humour, and putting two beautiful young dancers, at ease with such a pleasant breath of fresh air back into classical ballet, with Carlos Acosta's teaching them his choreography, of Don Quixote. BUT, what has been concerning me now, Royal Ballet, is where is all the new talent, that should come from White Lodge, and then the kids that start such a gruelling,task as to take up ballet from 11 to 16 years old, and then go onto the upper school, if they're good enough, going to? This is a ballet company for British and English dancers too, as "madame" and Sir Fred designed it to be! Yes, I'm watching brilliant dancers from all over the World, but as far as I can see, few from this country. I'm worried and saddened as to why, please?
@judithbooth48559 жыл бұрын
Catherine Blair. I think it's called globalization and it's happening everywhere. I think it makes me sad but then I get to see all of these wonderful dancers and I have second thoughts. I posted an interview with Tamara Rojo on google+ that speaks to this! you should listen to it.
@mariisoverit7 жыл бұрын
Ballet is now about talent and is more competitive. If a Cuban professional gets the part but one in the country will all possibilities doesn't, it means how good the Cuban professional is. It's pretty silly to get upset at it.
@mariisoverit7 жыл бұрын
Curious enough you don't see the same comments when the international professional is European.

This is my honest opinion along with just a statement. Vadim has great technical skills and movement yet his skills with theatrical poses is not really there. Now I know that some people may argue with this but its an opinion and opinions by nature are just what a person perceives. Although, the skills are still pretty neat nonetheless!
