Amazing. Olga Everinoff is the coach and she knows absolutely everything about the choreography and how to make it completely effective. correct name is olga evreinoff, not everinoff - from russian "evrey" meaning "jew". the language situation in this episode is quite comic. all three of the participants in rehearsal are native russians; all ballet terminology is naturally in french, and the rehearsal takes place in england, so olga evreinoff speaks english w/ballet pianist and w/ballet dancers, but they often switch to russian. also, you can hear olga evreinoff calling vadim muntagirov "vadik" - it is a diminutive for "vadim", muntagirov's first name.

So grateful to the RB for making so many wonderful videos of class and rehearsal/coaching available for us to see. It occurs to me that I hope they film (videotape, whatever) as many as possible, if not all such sessions, throughout the company and repertoire; what a fantastic resource for future dancers, directors, etc. Sadly, we are all mortal, and these treasured professionals, guiding younger generations with all the wisdom, strategy and artistry they've amassed, will not be living and active forever, so capturing all we can of their work seems essential.

I am watching this again & have a number of the Royal Ballet rehersal videos. Not sure if commented before (can see the like others though 😝) but think I am seeing better what is going on - acting lessons. Marvelous, and enjoying just as much each time. Learning and better appreciating fine ballet. Any dancer with the company has to be good 😏 duh. What sets a story performance apart is the acting thru gesture (for lack of a better word) to tell it w/music & w/o dialogue. And told well, I hear it in the coaching and SEE it reflected in the dancers response - subtleties to incorporate into the extraordinary athleticism of ballet technique. Like the dance isn't difficult enough already. 😒 No dancer here but wish I was & admired ballet from first aware (most likely a Nutcracker on TV 😁) and will never forget my first production company visiting my small town decades ago. Unaware of the 'story' beforehand & w/o live music it was told so clearly the last 3rd was desperately stiffling sobs and blouse wet from streaming tears. Thank you The Royal Ballet for sharing this and these aspect(s) of performances with me, I enjoy every part and revisit the videos. And every time wish there was a full Alice in Wonderland. 😜 Thousands of miles from just the West Coast of North America - if it is there to put on KZbin, please 🙏. The clips are fantastic!
