David, As someone who worked in market research all my career I loved it when you called out the Government for their misleading presentation of Covid stats on the two occasions you did but, as you mentioned, when you became the story you somewhat retreated. I feel in your position you should please continue to point this out and call it wherever you see it. As you say Chris Whitty is very good at presenting the data in a trustworthy way, but others less so, including Van-Tam who it seems aligns himself too closely to justifying the government position. I would also point you to Dr John Campbell's KZbin broadcasts on Covid who is like yourself, another very credible and trustworthy communicator

The challenge is, how to project these insightful ideas and relatively simple ideas to our policy makers and general population - great maths teachers are a start...and thank you all for making this happen.

Society needs to change its attitude towards teachers...this leads to pupils respecting teachers more...leading to pupils listening more...leading to pupils learning more...leading to them being more enlightened...leading them to WANT to learn more difficult and technical subjects such as maths and science....this is what happens in Eastern countries and therefore they are rapidly growing technologicially, scientifically and economically. I love maths and know its usefulness and how it can be used as a tool in nearly everything we do. The statistics I saw over the lockdown and during this epidemic have been misinterpreted, misused and sometimes, the wrong things have been measured. The media's weaknesses and their 'complicitness' in all this went unnoticed. - I don't normally type this much but I liked your comment

Fantastic! Thank you. “Merchants of doubt weaponising uncertainty”. It’d be a great album name.

Unfortunately what you are saying at the end, in your summing up is just not going to happen. You call for those who understand the statistics to speak up, shout, stamp their feet and draw attention to the FACTS. However, in this time of funding ( or lack of funding ) where contacts and networking is all, its seen as professional suicide to do what you are calling for. Don't misunderstand me I 100% agree with what you are calling for but I don't see it happening anytime soon. ( unfortunately ).

I emailed this statistician to check the scientific data allegedly used by government to justify the ban of outdoor swimming. He replied stating he does't know how and that he knows nothing about it.

Insightful and a little sobering, demonstrating just how easily a misleading picture can be given, e.g. the statement that your chance of dying at a certain age from Covid-19 is the same as your chance of dying from any other medical reason.🙂

But even that is misleading until you add "this is on top of the normal risk, and so Covid doubles your risk of dying." Which he referred to once, but is easily not seen.

Why not start with the SOLUTIONS? i.e. HERD IMMUNITY, in the time of a SCAMDEMIC.

The guest tells us he will not opine on policy (eg lockdowns). This is another example of a talking head afraid of negative backlash. We need more experts who are willing to tell their whole truth. The political correctness is so tiresome.
So the guy who completely fucked up communicating statistics is now supposed to tell us how to communicate statistics? This makes no sense. This buffoon wouldn't have such a big platform if the The Royal Society focused on actual skill at the topic at hand rather than credentials/prestige.

Censorship is at work here. Statistics are worthless without free and open debate. Viewers of this video are strongly advised to seek alternative information.

The medical/scientific community have failed to satisfy the gold standard for establishing the microbiological etiology of infection and disease? Koch's postulates are as follows: • The bacteria must be present in every case of the disease. • The bacteria must be isolated from the host with the disease and grown in pure culture. • The specific disease must be reproduced when a pure culture of the bacteria is inoculated into a healthy susceptible host. • The bacteria must be recoverable from the experimentally infected host.

So how can any of these "statistics" even be counted on as valid? (Please forgive the question above, it was meant to be a statement. I just kept on trying different combinations because it would not allow me to post anything but went through when I used a different browser)
