Who remembers the 1971 TV series 'Elizabeth R'? Glenda Jackson was so good that she, IMO, became the definitive image of the queen. But it was the introductory music to each episode that caught my attention. I didn't know what it was but it turned out to be most appropriate for the period setting, Byrd's 'The Leaves Be Green'.

I love Glenda Jackson but Elizabeth was almost as cruel and bloodthirsty as her horrible father.

The leaves be green, the nuts be brown. They hang so high, they will not come down. You can hear the theme at 0:32 and many times after that

I like many aspects of this very well known piece although there is some lack of combined approach on on certain articulation decisions.

Far to fast a tempo set to appreciate the different rythmic changes from Galliard to Jig then triple time. The piece is the popular Elizabthan browing; try singing the words at the speed performed here. David Munrow's recording gets this piece I believe. Such a shame
