The most rich sound of an octave spinet I ever heard . Unbelievable ! Beautifully played as well.

Thank you for a few minutes of transcendent beauty! BTW -- people might be interested in reading his epitaph from Norfolk Cathedral: Here Willyam Inglott Organist doth rest, Whose arte in musique this cathedrall blest, For descant most, for voluntary all He past: on organ, songe and virginall: He left this life at age of sixtie seaven; And now 'mongst angells all sings saint in heaven; His fame flies farr, his name shal never die; See art and age here crowne his memory

I'm glad I discovered this corner of you tube. Keep quiet and the tourists will never find out. What an outstanding instrument. I'm discovering instrument after instrument on this mix feed. I'm in overload. HELP.

this instrument is simply fantastic. No sampler can reproduce this etheric but warm analogue sound of real plugged strings brought in tension in this nice real ancient small keyboard instrument. Thanks for sharing 🎵
@CandiceGoddard Жыл бұрын
Are you saying that the spinet is an "ancient" keyboard or that the one in this video is ancient, because that's a modern reproduction and it looks it. It looks very new.
@ingorichter649 Жыл бұрын
@@CandiceGoddard The instrument played here is a reproduction of the "ancient" analogue string based technology called "spinet". Together with hapsicord, virginal and clavicord a noble family of keyboards typically belongs to baroque and rokoko - art - period.

Not sure why you say that. I think it is just a popular tune of the time, with a number...quite a large number..of variations?

More likely the natural resonance of the soundboard.
@harpsichordkid4 жыл бұрын
This little guys often lack dampers on most or all jacks because the sound doesn’t last as long as a larger harpsichord. This has a little bonus in that the untouched strings are free to vibrate sympathetically.

Nice art sound, is this normal tuning?
@adamsouza7140 Жыл бұрын
No, it’s a renascence tuning.

@Dovewu712 Жыл бұрын
do you mean that everything that's not equal temperament is not normal or what
@petermole38724 жыл бұрын
Sadly, Yes! Most of the words for this traditional tune have been lost. Just two couplets survive:- 'The leaves be greene, The nuts be brown, They hang so high They won't come down' So it is an autumn song, like Peerson's 'The Fall of the Leafe'
@TheMrLMason3 жыл бұрын
If the leaves are green and won't come down, that doesn't sound very autumnal.
@petermole38723 жыл бұрын
Not so! It is the nuts which won't come down! Hazelnuts, which I suspect are what is referred to, are on the trees when the leaves are, as are walnuts and chestnuts!
@CandiceGoddard Жыл бұрын
@@petermole3872 Why do you think it refers to hazelnuts are they native to the UK? I think it could be chestnuts since the piece is British. Also could refer to the horse-chestnut which someone might want to get down to play conkers.
