Being from England, I find the idea that one of the great beast guitar players from Texas loves English cricket and Peter Kay both hilarious and oddly comforting. I came across an old version of Eugene’s Trick Bag Marshall did in the early days of KZbin. Back then, the playing blew my mind and it still does now.
@Swybryd-Nation5 жыл бұрын
It all started after seeing “Its Alan Partridge” on BBC America in 1997. Then I watched the British Comedy Awards and saw this guy Peter Kay win a lifetime achievement award and the highlights they ran had my sides splitting. I looked up then watched Phoenix nights and Max n Paddy and not only did I laugh my arse off watching both of those but peter Kay chose INCREDIBLE music and I got to hear Chaz n Dave , Johnny hates jazz, etc Also Peter Kay (when I understand his accent!) is provably the funniest comedian alive. During his “Back on Nights” special if you were to measure his laughter duration over total elapsed time you would find him closer to unity than anyone else working today. I like how he uses cursing effectively and saves it to really reel in a big laugh. His accent though can really thicken up at times and it becomes positively Greek. During the Bolton Halls (‘03?) show he said something about someone being on the cover of “big issue” and he wanted his money back from a “devious bastard.” Any Brit wanna explain the joke in plain American English?
@dreadful_name29245 жыл бұрын
Marshall Harrison - Guitarist Hi Marshall, I’ve seen the Bolton 03 show too. Also met Paddy McGuiness on a night out in Manchester when I was at the university. The Big Issue is a magazine that’s published to be sold specifically by the homeless. So if you go into city centres, you’ll find homeless people with high vis jackets selling it there. They’re known for being very loud and often compete for volume with the local evangelical Christians on the street.
@Swybryd-Nation Жыл бұрын
THANK YOU for explaining that. I finally understand the gist of that part of PK’s Bolton Halls show. Rule BRITANNIA!- PROTECT YOUR HOMELAND-there are already giant countries that produce all of the other foreigners BY THE BILLION…Nowhere else produces the caliber and quality of great man like the Englishmen. From Newton, Darwin, Clerk Maxwell, Heaviside, Lord Rayleigh, Lord Kelvin, D F. Gregory, G. N. Watson, G. H. Hardy, Green, Stokes, Boole, Penrose, Hawking, to Boy George ,Pete Burns, George Michael, Duran Duran, and Kajagoogoo etc…to name a few luminaries from STEM and pop music.…HAVE SOME FUCKING PRIDE IN YOURSELVES…you don’t need to import strife and division. Take back your balls and your country because it’s not racist to love your homeland and put citizens before others.

I just made a comparison: You're as fast with picking as Shawn Lane is with Legato - which isn't really possible! I think you bear the historical burden of being a pioneer and have the destiny to further advance guitar playing, like Shawn Lane did in his day. If I may say so in all modesty.

Theosis78 hes not half as fast as shawn...
@Theosis786 жыл бұрын
dodger g He had genius gift, that´s undeniable. But his illness has greatly hindered him from fully exploiting his productive potential. And then he must have had in himself, I mean psychically, something else that held him back, that made him live unhealthily, that made him make bad business decisions. Despite his considerable work, which he was able to leave us, Shawn Lane was a genius who didn't come to full bloom. Marshall Harrison, from what I've seen so far, is not only probably one of the greatest technicians at the moment, but also an intellectually very gifted man - just think of his mathematical KZbin excursions or his deep connection to classical music. Kind of reminds me of Shawn Lane, doesn't it? In any case, it is also a certain management ability that leads mere talent to fruitful productivity.
@Theosis786 жыл бұрын
Hashirama Senju As much as your admiration for Shawn Lane is likeable, your statement is incorrect. Please compare example 17 from Power Licks, as Shawn Lane plays it, with the performance here by Marshall. Where' s the speed difference? Especially since Shawn uses the easier to play fast legato technique, while Marshall Harrison uses his innovative Swybryd and picks everything!
@Theosis786 жыл бұрын
dodger g True words you say about Shawn Lane. I just enjoy the fact that the development of guitar playing continues and find Marshall Harrison's innovation, his Swybryd technique, very exciting because it didn't actually exist before! Of course, Shawn Lane kills everything and everyone with his alternate picking. But he avoids the cramp-inducing movements, especially inside-picking, and combines AP a lot with legato and economy picking. Marshall Harrison takes this philosophy one step further and combines EP with hybrid picking to achieve total liquefaction of the picking hand movement and crazy picking speeds. Ah, KZbin made guitar playing as exciting as in the 80s and 90s !

He wrote very good music and his composed solos were great but i didn't hear much thought in his live improvisations. That is okay. People have different strengths. I spoke to Shawn several times on the phone and I think He would have gotten right along with Marshall Harrison like brothers separated at birth. I think they would have taught each other and come up with something more so and perhaps it is swybryd .. After Shawn passed I contacted his Mother Diane and asked if she knew the ones who helped Shawn program his amp and boost eq into the digital realm at Peavey and she said they had no idea.. So eventually I did find them and was allowed to work with the settings they made for Shawn specifically to program a unit for Diane and Shawns Niece and once I located those the settings were sealed at Peavey and sent to Diane at her request. As a Man of my word I never shared the settings and wont but what I can tell you is any guitar you plug into that sounds amazing its night and day plug into any other amp so so plug into that preamp suddenly the tone pots actually make a giant difference and you are already right there anyway so a slight adjustment and whammo its right there. Instantly Shawn Lane not that I can play anything like him this being said that sound was part of Shawn so they captured it and cloned the eq curves from his Homes amps and westbury tube boost pedal.. So when you use that as preamp into any other amp or stereo power amp into stereo cab its GIANT tone wise.. Two settings eq wise one 3 band one 4 and thats all I can say other then the 4 band eq sounds like an OVERDRIVE SPECIAL DUMBLE. Think Wooly Mammoth lose in the house.......:)
@paulprice63306 жыл бұрын
ron frey Wow! That was interesting. Thanks for chiming in.
@ronfrey66396 жыл бұрын
Honestly the 3 band eq setting sounds amazing anyway as it is and you can just have boost pedal and set that to desired settings or have several preset and bounce between those. I will say Shawn as far as I know always used the preamps once Peavey made them for him.. He carried two of those and two valve verb tube reverb units I think one was backup and or he might have used Quad . But I think he could travel with the preamps and pedals and guitar and then just rent amps on the road..... get loaner amps from music stores and if they had peavey 4 10 cabs or even bassmans with 410s then they got two of those and in case one preamp went out he had another system right there.. Preamps had line level outs and have gain knobs on outputs... So even line level can have a tinge of hair added too it.. To say drive a stereo poweramp you need 1k hitting the inputs.. So goose that gain some and it would make an amp or stereo power amp sound on the verge of just blowing up.... :) but it was barely moving the speaker cones..... When your dealing with Genius you leave nothing unturned everything matters.. On this note I would love to See and Hear Marshall shred through my preamp... I actually need to clone that into the axe efx and tone match that. So much to do all the time now... Im out of the loop recording wise and cant seem to get my keyboard to work in REAPER OR LOGIC so rather flustered there.

That’s the idea here: very very few can alternate pick as fast as Shawn could with SWYBRYD you can get pretty close with minimal strain/effort! Win/win.

Well, I'm an OLD alternate picker from way back. I've tried to sweep and I can do it a little, maybe sloppy, but it seems really difficult to go from alternate to these mini sweeps in between. I suck.
