But walking into a house from the outside still causes it to have the overlays inside the house as well. How do I have the overlays appear on the one map I put the Event on?

is there anyway to make the maps darker? i wanted to make like a burnt forest map with fog acting as ash flying in the wind with a very dark lighting, i tried to make a completely black overlay and it changed absolutely nothing, absolute black color is the default, how do i make maps darker :c anything brighter than pitch black, the maps light up

First of all, you need RPG game maker, but that's obvious. Then, you also need some kind of a photo editing program that can keep a transparent backround (obviously, Paint won't work, unless it's Paint.net). Personally, I'll say Photoshop is the best. That's it!

It won't be done for a long time, but Echo, I want more people to realize that RPG Maker has almost limitless capabilities. Erase event stops the event from constantly updating. Erase the Picture on the teleporter to the next map, or as a parallel event on the new map:P

wonderful tutorial Echo, I was able to get it down perfectly. The only question I have is in regard to how I can make the pictures used only apply to the map I used it on. +Ram Hacks When you teleport from the map, set "Erase Picture X" on the event:P Alternatively, you could create an event on the new map with Erase Picture on parallel as well.

+Firovine By default it's 816x624, you can change it with the Yep_coreengine plugin. Make sure you're showing it with "Upper Left" as the origin position, and the event is on Parallel:3

I must compliment for your tutorials, even though i have to pause them a lot, you're too fast for my slow brain; it's really good to do stuff without hard scripting, especially when you use RPG Maker for fun after programming. Though, I would like to ask: what if someone doesn't have money for photoshop or paint tool SAI? Can I find a freeware program to do the same? Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm really new on the pictures or whatsoever stuff, so I don't know what to google, thank you for your time.

+Echo607 I'm more talking about your pacing. The video's fast yes, but you jump from one point to the next REALLY fast. For instance, you simply throw down a picture and jump right into using it in your game. I try the same thing and the bottom corner of the picture is only visible in the top left corner of the screen. There's no explanation on resolutions for figuring out what it's set to either or how to change that. There's no explanation on what to do, where to click or how to get there. It's like playing hide and go seek for me as I stumble through the variables and how on earth to use them. I try copying your events point for point but I don't end up with nearly the same results. I feel there's a lot I'm missing and none of it getting explained.

All the pictures used are set to appear from the top left, meaning as long as they're the size of the screen(default 816x624, can be changed with the Yep_CoreEngine plugin), it shouldn't matter:P If I went through every single basic point in all of my videos, it would get boring for those who already have an idea of how things work:3 It's just basic "showing a picture", there's not much more to it than that lol As for you're problem, are you setting it to have the Origin(in Show Picture) set to Upper Left? I'd be happy to go over it in more detail for you:P If I still had the video's script kicking around, I'd just send that to you^_^

+Echo607 Ultimately, my original plan was to set up a field of vision where it would be a cone of visibility and would face according to the direction of the character. I tried copying the process from your lantern segment of the 20 tips video but that just fell flat. SO I've been trying to get a basic gradient-ed circle but the thing kept showing up in the wrong places. My initial solution was trying to offset it with the direct designation but doing so made centering the image... pretty much impossible. The advice you gave btw worked perfectly ^_^ Changing the image size down to 816x624 centered it to a T. If you do have advice for how to get the cone of vision thing too though that would be awesome!

Because RPGMaker is geared towards people starting out with game design. While it can be used to make a professional game, it's not the best program for that.
