That last tip is great. It really resonated with me, and I think it's probably the most important thing for anyone to remember no matter their skill or level of experience. 9:58"You? You have... you, so do your best to make your the game the way YOU want to. The people who like it will like it, and the people who won't, won't. And that's okay."

Dear God I can't believe you're still on KZbin... I used to watch your tutorial videos for RPG maker VX Ace back like almost 10 years ago.. Then I fell off with the game and didn't play it anymore haven't seen one of your videos since and here I find myself today looking at videos for RPG maker MV and you have videos for this too!!! At least I know these tutorials will be top notch it's not because I remember your previous videos being very well informed...

Regarding #6, I've just started watching your tutorial videos so I don't know if you discovered this later, but you could also setup a State, call it "Repel" and give it a Priority of 1, set it with the party ability "Encounter Half" or "Encounter None" (as you prefer), set it to Remove by Walking (your choice) of steps. Then make your consumable "Repel Item" (Regular Item, Consumable, The User, Menu Screen) with the effect of Add State (Repel) 100%. This will give you the best of both worlds!

I really love the spirit in your voice as you make these videos. They're fun and entertaining to watch as well as helpful! I'm planning on making one monster of a game with MV in the future, and these tutorials are helping a lot! I'm definitely considering some of those plugins, especially that lovely mog battle system, huhuhu~ (although I do have to consider those with motion sickness, so maybe some tweaking might be needed). (ALSO HOLY CRAP SOMEONE MADE A THEATRYTHM PLUGIN. Seems like just about anything is possible with this program and the right plug-ins o.o) Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I loved your videos! Another awesome set of tips and tricks :). Especially liked #7 which provided great examples. If you're just going to add every plugin simply because it exists, it removes any identity your game may have and can quickly bog down the experience, not to mention force players to learn many more systems within your game that may not even complement its flow. Nothing wrong with having multiple systems, especially larger more open experiences can shine because of that, but as you say it's important to give players a core experience, not one simply filled with fluff. Would love to hear more tips/tricks focused purely on world building or character building, all your comments on them throughout this series has been great :) so it'd be cool to hear your design philosophy or what you may work with personally to try and guide a consistent world/character. The dialogs in #9 were an awesome demonstration of the difference it can make. And #10 is always a good point to keep in mind :) there are many out there who may not enjoy a single rpg in favor of their fps games, etc, the goal should in general just be to make a game you hope someone can appreciate and be engaged with as an experience they may recommend further. It's also important to note that if you find yourself growing tired of your game, you shouldn't write that off as expected just because of the time you've spent with it, but try to replay the game and focus on areas you may still be able to polish or try to find what might be halting your enjoyment. Because if you can't at least appreciate what you're making, you shouldn't then be demanding for others to like it.

Here's another tip: Don't rely too heavily on plugins. If you don't specifically need something for your game, then you probably don't need a plugin for it. For example there's a plugin that lets you have more than 99 items. Have you played your game long enough to find out that you easily get 100 Fancy Leaf items? Or is there never really any need to have, say, more than 50 of said item? Maybe it becomes obsolete 1/3 of the way through your game, because you then get Super Fancy Leaf. Well then there's no need to allow more than 99 of said item, and therefore no need for the script. If, however, it's a common crafting item and you're fighting battles that give 10 of them later on- Well you probably need the script then!

I've got a few tips that some might seem obvious, but that many people seem to not know. _Having two temporary variables is much more useful than you'd think. _Pictures can be used for sooooo much stuff! Definitely more than you can display pictures! _Avoid giving out items for practically nothing while they should be bought. Way too often have I seen a potion being dropped by every single monster, or given out in chests everywhere. _I know a lot of people who, once they finish something, they just stop thinking about it. Nothing keeps you from going back to edit something. _I'm basically a potato. That wasn't a tip. Some may seem like really basic and common sense, but apparently it is not :/
@Echo607
@Echo607 8 жыл бұрын
+utaHeat likes games :3 I'll bring up temporary variables in the next one(and the overall use of switches and variables) Pictures are a good one, too. I actually don't mind the potion thing - I grew up with Final Fantasys and they did that a lot:P It's an easy way to give your player a bunch of healing if they find the beginning of the game challenging. Though I'd much rather get something more interesting from a chest. Going back and editing is also a good note - game maintenance is definitely a must if you're planning to sell it or anything. Common sense is a myth:3

Considering getting MV sometime in the future. However, I have a few questions: 1. Is there a way to make DLC from previous versions work in MV? A plugin maybe? Tutorial? 2. What is the limit to how many members you can have in a party? 3. Can you have more than one full party at a time and switch between them? Either in or out of battle? 3a. If you can do the above, how many separate parties can you have in and out of battle? That's it, really. Hope you reply soon.
@Echo607
@Echo607 8 жыл бұрын
+wariodude128 1 - graphical DLC should work by resizing things, or changing file types for audio. Scripts wont work. 2. 4 active members default, can be changed with a plugin. 3. With a plugin, yes, easily. Not sure if it works in battle, but it's doable. 3a? To my knowledge as many as you want, though I haven't tested beyond 3. Check out the Hime_PartyManager plugin, I've even got a tutorial on it lol

I am making a game where every charactors abilities are defined, except one of them, as they are intended to be the Wild card. "Ability 1" Flavor text: "You feeling lucky?" ability 2: flavor text"Take a chance, whats the worst that could happen?" ability 1 deals damage based on luck, the charactos scaling stat, But is always a constant, that relys on a crit for masive damage. while ability 2 Dose damage based on HP of the user, and Hp of the enemy. so, if your at full HP, and the enemy is at full HP, massive damage, But if your just being revived/low HP, or the enemy is weak, you'll do no damage at all :D This is balanced as it is not costly, but it is slow, and bosses have Resistance to the damage ir would deal(for simplicity, i labled it Luck, since she's the only use who uses it.) Starting boss of the game has 20000% more damage from Luck, so the player will assume she is strong, but in the world, she will be weak, and have to be used differnetly, untill the player learns what she is good for, and dose. Much like the first time you use Dragon crest in final fantasy 9. a skill that scales with dragons killed, and you haven't encounted any.... so after a large flashy efect, You get 0 damage, or 4 damage XD. then late game, you get 9999 if you used it again to see if it has an efffect XD i laughed so hard.

Quick question for anyone using MV, I have this little thing where I have the player decide which costume one of the characters use. Is there any easier way than recreating the scene 4-5 times with the different text faces and so on? If it wasn't for copy paste I would have just erased that whole situation entirely.
@MerkhVision
@MerkhVision Жыл бұрын
Cant you just have the costume selection choice activate a common event that changes the actors sprite and face? Wouldnt that make the change automatic for every instance instead of requiring you to manually change it for everything? Seems simple enough, unless I'm overlooking something, but it sounds to me like you made your work way harder than it needed to be lol.
@ForgedinPrint
@ForgedinPrint Жыл бұрын
@@MerkhVision You can do that and yes that would work for the sprite of the character, but the problem I had back then was that the event dialogues required me to select an image for each and every single dialogue option. The dialogue isn't actually connected to a character, however what I had learned is there is a plugin that allows me to connect it to a character rather than a select image which would operate the way you are thinking of.

Awesomeness, like every single time. If you do find 10 other tips and tricks, then it's fine, however, you seem to be quickly running out of ideas ^^. However, tips about world and character creation, game set up, and stuff, it might be interesting :D. Also, as MV is opening lots of new opportunities, some incredibly awesome things you could do are: A touch triggered title screen A basic character creation (like zenonia). A chapter selector, like corpse party Book of shadows. Basically, anything that fully uses the new mouse/touch trigger system. A neat pathfinding would be cool too. You may have already understood it, but I do think that there is a full potential behind that mouse system, and you should look deeply into it, for you and for us ^^.

+Skymen Naw, I've got plenty of ideas - I just got some requests people asked me to talk about so I figure I'd throw them in here for the time being. Thanks for the suggestions:P I haven't really looked much into the mouse system because I wouldn't use it in the kind of games I make - I'll take another look at it, though:3
@Skymen75019
@Skymen75019 8 жыл бұрын
+Echo607 Ok, fine then :D. Also, I'm talking about that mouse system for two main reasons that would need to be explained (and, why not, give you ideas on further videos and/or games :p): -Mobile games: I'm not necessarily talking about casual, but more about some Zenonia like games. Where before we had to code via Cocos2dX to achieve this kind of game, it becomes fully accessible with MV. The only thing that is not by default in MV is a touch joystick, replaced by a more or less convenient pathfinding. -Make the game unique. Now I know what you're thinking, making your game unique is already doable using RPG Maker, however, what I'talking about is to not fall into that RPG Maker games abyss. 'Cause you know, RPG maker has a pretty bad reputation around the indie stage in general. Where games made using Construct, Clickteam Fusion, Game Maker, or Unity would get shared, upvoted, and played, RPG maker won't, even if they're funnier to play. And that's because of the community's bunch of crappy RPG Maker games that cover over the half of RM total games. However, what's new in MV is still new. MV didn't have the time to get this reputation (it will surely when the play store will be flooded with other crappy games), and that's why you gotta be quick and find a way to use the new MV features to get your game out of the crowd, so people either think it's not RPG Maker, either they find that the game is absolutely not like the other games of the same genre they're used to see. Anyway, still love your work, keep up, and make our eyes shine :D.

+Neo Phyte In order to show what something does in a short amount of time, they need to make the changes over the top. Most Scripts allow for tweaking in a lot of areas. I would be really surprised if this was not the case for this one.

Doesn't change the fact that I still got motion sick from the random swaying. Still going to stick with Yanfly's ASP3. I prefer my subtile camera there with full control over random overarching swinging.

As someone who's been working with game design for a decade now, most voice actors came to me when I announced I was looking for them. Most of them had a site/video/file with short, quick samples of their voice in different "impressions"and emotions. Which is a great way to "portfolio" your voice. You already have some good expo on your channel! If you put one up I`m sure a couple game makers would be interested in hiring you! (me including! bahaha)

:P Well, I'm lined up to help out with a few games, but nothing commercial or in any completed stage of development. I figured I'd need to make some sort of short demo reel - I just wasn't quite sure the best way to go about it(using clips from my videos or just creating lines and voicing them) :3 I'm usually up for voicing if it's asked of me, I've just never made any sort of jump towards it on my own.
