@@fanaticbogey Actually, none of the old Olympic temples were directly destroyed at church command. Those most suited for reapplication into churches were preserved, the rest were turned into homes for the poor after the western empire collapsed. They received no essential maintenance for remaining practical dwellings, however, and were gradually abandoned as they became too drafty from wind and rain, and ONLY then, around 900 or so A.D., did recycling their loosest and already falling stones for other dwellings become common. That so much STILL stands is a testament to how much respect for the old buildings remained and remains to this day. Even the fact from the late medieval findings that inspired the Renascence art revival that so many idols were deliberately buried mostly intact rather than simply ground into gravel shows their respect for the human art, if no longer the “god” it represented. There simply was never a systematic leveling of everything, if there had been, there would have been nothing left within a 100 years of Constantine. It’s easier to destroy than to build. Of course, Fundamentalist Protestants will lament that Christian Rome/Byzantium DID NOT level it all and that we are scarcely different from you. A world of strange nuances we live in. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have praised the purple vine, My slaves should dig the vineyards, And I would drink the wine. But Higgins is a Heathen, And his slaves grow lean and grey, That he may drink some tepid milk Exactly twice a day. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have crowned Neaera's curls, And filled my life with love affairs, My house with dancing girls; But Higgins is a Heathen, And to lecture rooms is forced, Where his aunts, who are not married, Demand to be divorced. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have sent my armies forth, And dragged behind my chariots The Chieftains of the North. But Higgins is a Heathen, And he drives the dreary quill, To lend the poor that funny cash That makes them poorer still. If I had been a Heathen, I'd have piled my pyre on high, And in a great red whirlwind Gone roaring to the sky; But Higgins is a Heathen, And a richer man than I: And they put him in an oven, Just as if he were a pie. Now who that runs can read it, The riddle that I write, Of why this poor old sinner, Should sin without delight- But I, I cannot read it (Although I run and run), Of them that do not have the faith, And will not have the fun. The Song Of The Strange Ascetic by G. K. Chesterton

Wonderfully atmospheric. Who wouldn't be happy living in a medieval monastery. Away from worldly cares and temptations, seeking divine knowledge, living a well ordered life. My soul delights at the thought of it. A simple unaccompanied plainchant would have worked even better I think and been more authentic.

Listening to this while actually working on a medieval manuscript art project, and it's definitely putting me in a calm, focused state of mind. Really respect the patience and skill it took to create those beautiful books by hand. Just writing out the text requires a steady hand and lots of practice to write each letter perfectly. But in a place like this, with the echoing chants and the fire crackling softly, I'd feel at peace and could definitely work until dark. Thanks for making this beautiful soundscape!

Just wanted to thank you for creating this, I've been using this in gymnasium (high school) for two years while studying, having it on repeat for hours to motivate myself in reminding why I am doing this. Now, this very summer, I got accepted to the best university of my country and finally can study latin and ancient greek as I dreamed for years. Your video was there as a background music and a subcounsios reminder and will propably stay this way for years to come.

Lovely! One can sense the spiritual feelings Gregorian Chants can evoke. You added interesting occasional sound effect like swirling air, owls hooting, footsteps (of nuns hurrying to the chapel perhaps). Very relaxing !!! Nicely done.
Gets the impression of having entered the ambience of "In the name of the rose", a darker and more sinister version of "Cathedral library" I guess. Love the owls. Thank you and God bless!

Without a doubt: MY FAVORITE of all!! maybe because of the nostalgia that results from it, or the nagging songs emanating such a beautiful haunting/bewitching melody... maybe also because I write while listening to this wonder of which I never tire...
