here's a question you probably knew was coming in this series - which version of Gamma World was your favorite? All editions count. Even 5th. Holla down below in the comments.

1st Edition. That was the edition I played, and the concept became less compelling when the Cold War started to die down after Gorbachev came in. And it's very similar to Metamorphosis Alpha, the other TSR OSR SF entry before they came out with Star Frontiers, which I've been rediscovering since the Goodman Games re-release a few years ago. "Gamma World" implies nuclear war and radiation; some of the excuses that later editions came out with for wrecking the world seemed like a lot more of a stretch. Numenera completely murders Gamma World and eats its lunch, IMHO, unless you're explicitly playing GW as OSR nostalgia -- and 1st Edition is definitely the most OSR-ish OSR version of the game.

1st ed. I like the spartan design of the game--you get the rules and monster/mutant stats ( no illustrations), and the rest is up to you to design. No "hand holding" with this edition. You could make it as deadly serious or as goofy as you wanted. Lack of imagination was the only thing holding you back.

3rd edition despite the Marvel Superheroes mechanics. The artwork was amazing and the modules had a grand story if you wanted to weave that into the adventure. This edition also had the most modules though they never finished. n the web is a conclusion though I don't remember if it was a fan work or the unpublished conclusion abandoned when they stopped supporting Gamma World for a few years.

My favorite GW character. A 5' at the shoulder doberman pincer with wings. Unfortunately, without the ability to speak for quite awhile. Eventually found a piece of lost tech that simulated speech.

Man, I vividly remember playing Gamma World back in the day. Such fun post-apocalyptic times!

Brings back memories. The PSH in 1e got a +3 Charisma bonus on top of the roll, BTW.

I'd like to see character generation that uses the mutations. Otherwise, this is a useful and fun video. It's inspiring me to circle back to playing my original box set of 1st edition Gamma World.

Well presented, well spoken and engaging. Subbed. Recently picked up GW 1st edition, looking forward to running it. Love the feel of early TSR games!

Hi! In my games of Gamma world 1st edition, players are able to play as mutant plants and as robots, with a few little house rules this aspect works very well, most robots in Gamma World are over powered, even if they look at your PC with their cold metal eyes the PC is likely to die a horrible death. So players are only able to be household service robot types, vacuum cleaner, dish washer, lawn mower, refrigerator and so forth, though they can upgrade themselves if they find the software and hardware to do so, and they are also crippled a little by power requirements, environmental hazards that can cause rust and circuit malfunctions.

Hey, hey! As I said in the video, the character creation session are pure sessions. What you would expect if you did nothing and made a character straight out of the box. That way, people can see have an idea of what they want to adjust.

I do enjoy the creativity, of GW. If you ever get tired of humanoids and humans; there's thousands of animals, and millions of plants to pick. Don't waste your time, with robots, thou. They are dead end!

It's actually the alliance they start you with. I'd like to run a session or two where the PCs were from two or three different alliances and see how that pans out. The RP alone would be mad interesting. 🙂

What is this Foundry VTT? I haven't heard of it. So it has a character creator for multiple editions of GW? Does it also have Star Frontiers and 1st, 2nd Ed D&D? That would be cool. How about Savage Worlds? (Love Savage Worlds BTW.) I have the 2nd edition, but have never played it. I also have the 7th edition that is similar to 4th edition D&D and have played it 2 or 3 times.

@RPGElite How do you think the mutations of 1st edition compare with the other editions, in terms of organization, details, and balance of power? Thanks!

What module did you use for the foundry vtt module? Did you make your own Foundy module or use a one of the adjustable premade systems?
@RPGElite2 жыл бұрын
I made that. Threw it together real quick for the videos. I'll make it available as soon as I clean it up and add the things that come with it.

@@RPGElite please do, I'm currently in the process of developing a Gamma World 1e game and being able to use foundry would be awesome. Interested to use it when you turn it lose to the wider world.

You need to watch the other videos in the series of which there are over 40. What you will discover is I've already done that. Twice. 😏
