(24 Dec 1976) RR7651A JAMAICAN ELECTIONS
Jamaica's 1976 general elections resulted in a
landslide victory for premier Michael Manley's People's
National Party over the opposition Jamaican Labour
Party. Many saw it as the victory of socialism over
conservatism, but the opposition claimed Manley was
a Communist and attacked him bitterly over his
increasingly friendly relations with Cuba. This report
examines the issues, including the economic back
ground and the violence which raged in the island all
year.

The terrible Civil War that RAGED through almost all of our High School years!- 1976-1981 Amazingly, our parents! mentors! Teachers! Church! and those who manned the Christian Summer Camps! And other members of ‘the Village’ walked us through! Mostly, God was our Helper! Interestingly though, the Arts! Music! And other creative aspects of the country flourished! I hope We NEVER repeat this NONSENSE!🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

Manley socialism was an effort to lift up the working classes and create a more balanced society instead of the massive gap that existed but in doing so he sided with America’s biggest threat Cuba and lost aid from the US which unbalanced the economy and he remained defiant until Jamaica was on its knees

That's why he's a poor mathematician and economist despite attending London School of Economics - David Coore couldn't believe his ears with all the goodies Manley was reeling out during one of his budget presentation - Coore's impression was like ''where's the money coming from to buy all these gifts?''

Sounded to me (with every such of these clips I see) that Michael Manley would've modeled something similar to Col. Gaddafi's Libya. The task, thought not (theoretically impossible) would've been a lot tougher to achieve without the gift of black gold beneath the rich limestone. Seaga, the worst thing that happened to Jamaica since Colombus set foot here (and even before that).

The ignorant voters didn't understand what communism is, it meant that you share equally the wealth and resources, and social provision of you country amongst the nation COMMUN ( COMMUNITY) ISM. They allowed Seaga to have them believe that communism was a wrong and bad. In fact it is the opposite, to capitalism, where this is creates unequal opportunity and divide in class and wealth. Jamaica is rich in resources, hence the reason how Britain profited off of itduring slavery and colonalism. Manley knew this, and wanted to block off and shut off Western influences after indepedence to stop the exploitation, and keep the resources and wealth within JA. China started off as communist country, and look where it is today economically!!! Indeed China has now taken over the Caribbean and Africa, yet it was in the same position as the Caribbean and Africa 40 years ago. But because of its philosophy it has prospered as a nation. Seaga just sold Jamaica down the river to the USA and did nothing for the JA economy.

Capitalism creates divide and greed!

''Time come'' that's the new PNP slogan - of course time come to mess up back Jamaica's economy again, 70's, 18 & 1/2 and 11 - 16. Every time the JLP builds a robust economy the PNP turn up afterwards and just demolish it. 60's economy grew at almost double digits; PNP turned up in 72 and by 74 the economy was in negative territory - then they blamed it on the oil crisis but they got more money from the bauxite than anybody else before, isn't it, but they never yet mentions this. Can you imagine what they would've done during COVID-19? Remember they messed up during CHIK-V and that was a minor outbreak compared to the global pandemic of COVID. Now Jamaica has one of the best economy in the region, unemployment is in single digit, net NIR is near 5 Billion US, infrastructure improvements all over the island - companies are complaining they kind find workers to work, lol. Why would the ppl want a change now???? Recent polls indicate the ppl want a change - they're crazy. Can the PNP perform any better, given their history???????

JLP made a statement that it was a highway to nowhere.....but they had to continue it and named apiece after the Blind man . During the time look at the many education facilities opened up . Why did you not go back to school and better yourself and try replace them . If you say did nothing it points to your educated level of understanding .
