Dick Tayöor, you are really great! I love you, and the Pretty Things, and the Rolling Stones since the beginning, that means 1964. Rock'n Roll forever, and you are one of the beautiful losers!!!

I was able to chat a bit with Dick Taylor after a show while he was packing up. He is such a lovely man, and just like you see here in the video. As it happens, Phil May has just passed away. RIP Phil.

I knew Dick in the 1980s when he was a driver for a jeans company in London.Very down to earth and a genuinely nice guy, I think he had become disillusioned with the music scene.

Dick didn't refuse to give me his autograph. I went down Denmark St and there he was. And, yes, I've still got it.

I wish they had invited Dick to play bass on one-two songs at the Stones last celebration concerts.

I agree , but , Keef was courting them to open a big Stones show in London a couple of years ago. In the end , Jagger had veto power , and did not want to risk getting blown of the stage .

Dick should have been stones lead guitarist. Obviously better than Jones or richards on lead

@@MncrrYou're right but Brian wanted him as a bassist reason why he left the Stones quite soon.

@@Gentlem1 You turn the table, Dick since the college and still now is one of Jagger best friend. Only Keith could be worried cause of Dick guitar ability.

Interesting choice. Huge amounts of money and groupies as bass player for The Rolling Stones, or guitar player for the hugely influential Pretty Things. I think he chose wisely.

Saw the Pretty Things farewell show & Dick Taylor’s guitar playing was a revelation… I never fully appreciated just how good he is. Re ‘Little Boy Blue & the Blue Boys, I only recently discovered that the Neon Parks cover painting for Little Feat’s Sailin’ Shoes features Mick Jagger dressed as Gainsborough's ‘The Blue Boy’ on the far right of the sleeve!

Dick was a better guitarist than richards or Jones at that time and bailed on bass and went back to school where he met Phil may and started the pretty things.

I wonder if his name ever came up for replacing Brian Jones, or replacing Mick Taylor, or replacing Bill Wyman? I wonder if he wondered that.

The Pretty Things Scared the Rolling Stones. In 1964 the Pretty Things almost took the Rolling Stones as Englands no.1 blues band so much so that Mick Jagger toldthe Producers of Ready Steady Go, That if they booked the Pretty Things on the Show the Rolling Stones Would not Appear, Sine the Rolling Stones had More Hit Records plus a Number 1 Ready Steady Go never Had the Pretty Things Appear on the Show Depriving them of a chance for Real Stardom. Shame.

If that’s true it proves that jagger was a bitch who knew he couldn’t sing and was threatened by better bands. The Beatles were better writers and vocalists and Eric burden blew him away in vocals

The more videos I watch about the British Invasion, the more obvious it is that England had more of their share of rockers per capita than any country in the world. They knew more about American music then than I do today. Someone commented here that the Stones feared the Pretty Things. The might be true of Keith regarding Dick Taylor, but I doubt Mick lost any sleep over their lead singer.

No, it was true about the Stones and the Pretties. No individual comparisons are relevant here. I don't need to watch videos, great though they are, I still remember it from the time it was happening. Brian Jones even attacked their drummer Twink, leaving him with a black eye!! It doesn't get much more fraught than that!!! Your remark about Phil May, also shows you only have a cursory knowledge of them. Because if you'd ever heard the albums "S.F Sorrow" and "Parachute" to name but 2, you wouldn't have made that comment!!

I bought a pretty things cd and it had a little bit of film on it ; their cover of don't you feel like crying is far better than the stone's (which ain't bad either) and I think Jimmy page had some input on one track. It was a great buy and I'd give it five like Cathy McGowan . I had presumed that the pretty things were all loaded and retired and leading lives of seedier debauchery than the stones. And maybe they are.
@robluke6934

Correct, Janice Nichols. I'm very fond of the Pretty Things' version of "Don't You Feel Like Crying" - sacrilege, perhaps, but I even prefer it to Solomon Burke's original.

1/ No, dude said he's a better guitarist, whether he can write songs is neither here nor there plus. 2/ He is also a killer songwriter as evidenced by all the classic material he wrote with The Pretty Things, who as real heads know, are where it's at.
