Very good video. Your format is on point and focusses on the facts of what is possible in the current PTU environment. That said, the ES is an Exploration ship. Comparing the cargo capacity with the C1 Spirit or the Zeus CL is unfair and doing it a disservice, as the gameplay it was made for is not yet in the game. Same with having a segment solely on combat will not do much for freighters or cargo ships compared to, well, combat ships. (ES vs MR comes to mind once the second sister ship releases) Again, I get it, you are doing little to no theorycrafting to not muddy expectations, but a disclaimer* that the ship's role does not lend it primarily to either combat nor transport tasks might be prudent. All that out of the way, your video format is very good, you have a clean structure and you explain everything very clearly. Keep it up :) *disclaimer should be dynamic based on the intended role of the ship you review at the time.

Excellent Farrister quality as always. I have bought the MR variant my self and now when I've been flying this ES variant as a loaner I might need to buy this one as well. Its so practical and the space inside the ship is well used. Every corner of the ship has been properly thought out and there is a lot of excellent features. I personally chose the MR variant because I wanted the armory instead of kitchen area. But there is a little catch in all Zeus variants. Their door frames are wide enough from the top that you can fit 1 or 2 scu box thru them! That way you can easily make your kitchen area to be a small armory by placing there 1SCU boxes! This ship is like dream comes true. And couple things to add: Those weapon racks look like they have 6 slots for side arms per rack, but actually top 3 of them are for pistols and the lower 3 for med guns and multitools. Cargo bay fit officially 32 scu of cargo, but if you don't use the grid you can fit there at least 2x24 scu boxes side by side plus some more around them. You can also fit one 32 scu box diagonally in there plus some smaller ones around it. So the cargo hold is way bigger than you might think. Al thought I would not buy it for dedicated cargo ship, since the CL is made for that. But if you find any size box from somewhere you know that it will fit into the cargo bay.

The 128 SCU capacity that the CL has is only if you use small boxes. If you're doing the cargo hauling missions, the CL cannot do medium hauls despite that 128 SCU capacity. So might as well get the ES and stick with the small and extra small hauling missions.

Firstly, love your ship tours! Great format, although with this one, I found your external walkaround seemed quite rushed (no mention of this ships ability to access the roof of the ship from the airlock. A useful feature when landing at a hostile location and using the ships shields as cover!). For me, I've been looking for a daily driver for some time. Used to be a Connie T, but it's slow speed and old design held me back from truly loving it in this role. Enter the Zeus Mk 2 ES! I find this ship has many hidden features which I love. From having 3 separate internal storage areas (being a loot goblin), ability to load a ROC (Nursa would have been ideal) and inclusion of 3 points of ingress/egress (as you mentioned, the secure ladder near the flight deck is really useful). The biggest drawback of using this ship is the CL! That tractor beam and increased cargo area just opens up a whole new gameplay loop. But that being said, if you are an RP citizen, the roomier hab area of the ES is nicer. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your next vid!

The Zeus Mk 2 ES is among the best CIG has crafted up to now. I am especially happy to see a good lateral window in the crew mess area with yet another window enabling a glimpse of that exterior view from the hall. I am also impressed with both the forward boarding ladder and that nifty docking collar with its sort of porch. A feature which also enable topside access to the ship as a bonus. Two things which I'd suggest for the Zeus ES would be air shields across both the ladder entry and that docking collar. It would save the ship from depressurizing and or contaminating the ship's interior. The other thing would be to give the crew quarters couch a focus like a screen, deployable table, a facing chair, or even reading lights.
@Farrister2 ай бұрын
I wasn't even aware of the topside ladder!
@jasonp.1195Ай бұрын
@Farrister Not a topside ladder, but on another review video another person demonstrated walking out from the side docking hatch out onto that porch. They then accessed the topside of the Zeus by simply walking left at the end of the porch. I like topside access with ships, so it's something I notice. The forward ground side entry ladder is another great feature of the Zeus, but it'd be nice to have an air shield across it. Sorry if I was misleading regarding the ladder.

As always, very enjoyable review and spot on in almost every area. The only thing I'd disagree with is the opinion that the CL is a comparable option. This happens with a lot of ship reviews where large cargo space is always viewed as making a ship "better". Being a mostly combat focused player (both ship and FPS) and often playing with other people, I don't need most of that space. I actually find cargo hauling to be one of my least favorite activities. The back of the ES provides enough for a cyclone and a nox at the same time. Enough if you need ground vehicles for you and 2 people (I usually run with just a cyclone if solo) and the extra gun rack next to the hab is handy if you have two friends who want to join and you don't want to waste time running around for them to grab weapons. Just jump in and grab the ones I've already looted ;P

Finally the review! But we know you where occupied from citizencon. I upgraded from C1, because I never used the whole cargo space capacity, and for me 32 scu is quite good!. The ladder entrance is very very useful, I use it the most of the times. the QT is amazing, is really a very long haul ship. Compared with the C1, I feel is less maneuverable and less speady also, but still are good in those stuff. The airlock is also very useful when you have to go to the vacuum of the space, and by the way, even in atmosphere, you now you can walk away the top of the ship from this airlock? Interesting and funny fact! So then, prepared for explorations in 4.0 now!

One of the biggest negatives of the Zeus line-up, which was not mentioned, is that you cannot use a medical Ursa with it. After the latest medical changes, having a respawn/healing option nearby to any ground operation(s), being solo or in a group, has become a must-have need/requirement for fps players, which heavily weighs these days on which ship to buy/use.

The value of the ES is going to come down to how scanning gameplay works. The massive size three scanner it has should be able to scan down a lot of things. Whether that is what happens or not, we'll just have to wait and see. As for its competitor, it's really just the Freelancer DUR. Similar cargo, similar armament, similar role. Personally I prefer the ES on looks alone, but we'll have to see once we get proper scanning which one does small crew exploration better.

I love this ship - upgraded my starter to it. The form of it is just perfect. Design-wise it's everything i like. Visually 10/10 (especially with the paints - the "Argo-Paint" makes it look so cool) and flies well too. I use it for ROC Mining. However i wish there was an ACTUAL exploration game loop in game.... Honestly, the ability to set custom markers and maybe sell them to other players or so would be enough of a starting point. You could explore and scan for good rocks to mine or wrecks to salvage and sell it to others. That again makes me wonder what's so hard about custom location markers and why we STILL don't have them..... That alone is a change that would make the game a lot better with very little effort.... I mean people are already doing it with a box from a cheap cargo mission they drop at the place they want to mark.... Is it that hard to put an item that does exactly that in the game? :(

I was pretty enthusiastic about the Zeus ES early on, and it IS an incredibly well thought out ship with a lot going for it, but the luster wore off pretty quickly as I was flying around in it. As a combat-avoidant solo player, I honestly didn't ever feel the usefulness of the second shield generator, although that's definitely one of the main things to its advantage. The biggest plus that I found was in the numerous weapons lockers and egress points, which meant, as you pointed out, there's a ton of versatility in the ship, if you've got the hand-held bits to capitalize on whatever you find while you're out wandering. It makes for a good mobile base of operations for your travels, ensuring that whatever you need can be on hand. The problem I had was just this: With the interior 'hab' areas being deep gray and blue, they feel neither spacious nor personalized, and aren't interesting to be in. As you pointed out, in this respect, you honestly lose very little by switching to the CL, and for a combat-avoidant solo player, that cargo hold offers a lot more opportunity than the slightly-extended bunk area and mess. I was very very ready to enjoy the tight, cozy crew areas on the Zeus, but... there's just no personality there. Sadly, this means my time with the Zeus ES wasn't very long. I'll say this though, with some customization of the interior, this would be a quick buyback - As it stands, though, there just wasn't enough draw to it to make it take over as a mainstay.

Very well done tour and review. I really like this ship and switched to it from DUR. I got into the game very early and have bought a number of ships. I got this as it felt like a better low end exploration ship. Now that we are not likely to get ten or twenty or 100 systems, at least before I am too old to play anymore, exploration seems limited to programmed missions that do not require longer range. So is my Carrack going to be a very expensive floating home? I have both and hope the game gives us what we hoped for.

I've had the Freelancer DUR for years. Never got to use it. Traded it in for the Zeus ES. I like the ship, it spoke to me, but would rather they made the interior walls straight up and down instead of at an angle. If the ship was in real life: 1) Angled walls make approaching a wall or working on anything inside a wall a real problem. This is because your feet can't get close enough to prevent you from falling into the wall when leaning towards it. 2) Straight up and down walls offer more useable space. The halls would be wider and the cargo area could hold significantly more cargo. I understand from looking at the ship's overall structure that the angled walls could be due to a truss type airframe, however, the walls don't have to follow the same angles as the beams. Angled walls are suitable for visual aesthetics, but not functionality. I know... it doesn't adversely affect the player in-game, but it does affect the amount of useable area. Let's assume this ship was designed several hundred years in the future. We have transparent Aluminum right now... so why wouldn't they have it, or something better than it in the future? I am sure that hundreds of years from now, materials science is more advanced. This means the canopy doesn't have to be supported by a structural framework, as the entire canopy is made of solid metal. This would greatly increase visibility, without having to worry about 'glass' and its fragility, or the rigid, sight robbing structure to support it. Must think in the future! Overall, the ES is my favorite ship. When it comes to aerodynamics in-atmosphere, it should be better than depicted. I don't know if the designer intended it or not, but they created what is called a 'lifting body'. Lifting bodies are used in modern fighter and space planes. Coupled with directional thrusters and the winglets, she should be very capable in-atmosphere. Certainly more so than other ships that have thick wings that offer no aerodynamic advantage at all, such as the C1 or Freelancer.

... the Zeus-ES "can" fit 90-SCU, without the pilot trying too-hard. Combined with its superior-components and additional game-loops... I feel that the CL-version is a distant-second. Regarding all-other mediums: the "beauty-creep" of the Zeus is real and just-too-great to resist. It puts the C1 to-shame... and I didn't think that even-possible. It's CIG's best and most efficient ship-engineering to-date. And... in a game that is largely "what-if"... it only makes sense to fly the ship that is closest to "what-it-will-be". That ship is unequivocally... the Zeus-ES.

Okay, CIG. Would you please make the interior of the Polaris a lot more in line with what we're seeing here in the Zeus? This looks polished and complete. The Polaris looks just... monotonously gray? And also "gray box" throughout. With the exception of engineering, habs, and hangar, it looks very unfinished comparatively to the Zeus. Just because the Polaris is a military ship doesn't mean it has to be absolutely boring. There's also hardly any pathfinding signage. I mean, just look at the Idris interior. I know it's the hero vessel of Squadron 42, but the Polaris needs to get up to something along those lines in fit and finish.
@mebrian5728Ай бұрын
I think it’s because the Polaris has actually been in the pipeline for a very long time now, where as the Zeus has been in for like a year.

Zeus are a great into into Multi-Crew gameplay. The view from the cockpit is awesome, as is the new Starlancer, im from DCS so these cockpits are very easy to adjust to, and after flying the Viggen/Phantom and F-14/F-15 master modes is childs play. Nice little ships PS: No one buys ships on stats, you should be buying on th role it was designed for, and where it sits with similar ships, also buy ships as an INDULGENCE, Star Citizen is a game, not a second job, you can always melt of upgrade, or better still SUBSCRIBE, and try all ships as they are dropped. Be clever, not a moaner.

Iv got this Zeus Mk2. Considering trading up to the Constellation Andromeda, do you think this is a good trade up. I am doing bunker missions
@edwarddomenico9601Ай бұрын
The Connies' are all good choices over the Zues. The Andromeda is a combat focused vessel of the 4 Connies. For bunkers, yeah the Connie is better because it can carry an Ursa/Nursa. The downside is it is a much larger vessel, with more of a multi-crew focus than the Zues. If that doesn't bug you, then go for it. You get more and larger pilot controlled weapons, much heavier missile payload, 2 manual turrets that add to the offense of the ship, a snub in the back, with plenty of cargo space for a combat vessel. You do lose space on your cargo grid with an Ursa loaded, and you are much bigger target, but Connies have really good defense with great offensive capability.

The inclusion of large galleys has always been questionable as it's basically wasted space, but otherwise it seems like a compact, practical design.
@friendlyspacedragon72502 ай бұрын
The Zeus series is a very well done ship both inside and outside that doesn't fall into many of the issues the other ships have like clustering all the components in one place. That said, without the exploration gameplay loop the ship is merely okay to good at many things we currently have rather than great. There's always something better you could have taken instead. And for the ES, what you get in exchange for cargo space compared to CL is not impressive. A sofa and double sized kitchen is not a very iimpressive deal for almost 100 SCU.

@@Farrister yeah. I'm hoping that the auroras and connies get a bit of a reconcept to bring them a bit more in line with the more recent rsi styling. I feel like you really missed the mark on this review. Unless I've missed changes to this ship's intended purpose it is not a cargo or multi use ship. It is intended to be an explorer vessel with components to support that function, something you did not even mention. Correct me if I'm wrong. This ship's main competitor would be the Origin 400i, not the CS1 or Zeus Mk2 CL. The different segments you covered; Ship Tour, Combat, Handling, Costs, all feel generic and do not provide any feedback on the ship's main function. To which I would be happy to see an added and more highlighted segment in your future videos for "Primary Function" of the ship and how it stands up to others in the category (e.g. cargo hauling, exploration, combat, bounty hunting, etc.). So, even though I like and appreciate your reviews, this one feels like a let down and more of a cookie cutter review that misses the most important aspects of the ship, exploration and long term travel away from support.
@FarristerСағат бұрын
Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts. I do see where you're coming from, but I don't feel that there is much meaningful "exploration" gameplay yet. I focus my ship reviews on how they perform now, rather than in the future. How would you see the function of the ES in game today, mostly used for exploration and long term travel away from support? Or more likely to be used as a ferry for getting from A to B with some stuff? That's kinda why I focused on the C1 and CL as competitors, for patch 3.24.
@WookieeRageСағат бұрын
@@Farrister I can see that point. I just think it needs to be stressed in a ship review what the ship is designed for and how it stands up to the competition, even if only by comparing components. Granted, you are the one taking the time to make these reviews so you can decide what your time is spent on. I am just saying that for your reviews to be worth my time I would like to see acknowledgement about what the ship is going to be used for by design and when game functions are in place. I like your channel and have been subscribed for a long time. So take my feedback with a grain of salt. Happy New Year, I hope life for you and your family is great in the year ahead!

ES looks nice and has a great Cockpit-view. But after that the benefits end... Less DPS than the other ships in it's size. Just 0.3 more Fuel than the 1.2 of the CL but 3/4 less cargo... And even more energy problems than CL, because of radar and 4. Shield, so you have to turn off weapons, when you want to rly use your 4. Shield...
@hypernova35272 ай бұрын
I was incredibly split between keeping my C1 or upgrading to the CL or ES variants. I ended up upgrading to the ES, everytime I get inside an explorer ship, I get amazed by all the liveries and rooms inside. I can't wait for explorer and pathfinder ships gameplay to drop, so I can use it to it's maximum extent. Meanwhile, I have a good ship that fits all my needs. Now, if I come back to a ship purely meant for cargo, I thing I'm going back to the C1, some people complain about the Zeus not having a cargo bay as practical as the Zeus CL, although twice as large. Also, being able to lock yourself in while loading cargo with the tractor beam is another plus for the C1
