I was literally bleeding out in a hospital (technical term is hemhorrage) because a surgery stitch burst. I arrived at a hospital via ambulance and the nurses kept coming back to my room extremely frustrated. My dying self asked what was up and it turns out at minimum one Karen was screaming about her kid not going first. I got great care despite how visibly flustered they were, but I will never ever forget this.

Why do people think that not having children is selfish? I think having children who you aren't ready to emotionally/mentally/physically care for is much more selfish. Loving someone does not mean having their children. Being able to have children shouldn't mean you have to. No one is required to alter their life just to give you something you don't need.

We're overpopulated as-is and voluntarily choosing not to have a child is the most ethical way to reduce population count. I used to get so much crap for not wanting children. Five years ago, I finally got my surgery (took ten years before they finally acknowledged I probably wasn't about to change my mind). Now I just tell people I can't have children (which is true). People drop the subject real quick instead of calling me names, and even tend to apologise for bringing up the subject (which was never any of their business in the first place). I wish it hadn't taken so long to get fixed, it's the best decision I ever made.

The grandchildren story reminded me of a recent conversation I had with my mom. My sister just got engaged to her long time boyfriend and I asked my mom if they’d discussed having kid/did she think they’d ever have any. My mom looked at me and just said, “They haven’t said and I haven’t asked. It’s not my place. Kids are born everyday to people who don’t want or aren’t ready for them. I don’t want them to feel pressured into a commitment they may not want or are ready to set aside the time and energy for yet. I’d love grandkids, but I’d rather you all just be happy than feel obligated to have children you may not want.” To be honest my mom’s comment actually shocked me because I thought she’d be itching for grandkids. Her and my dad wanted a big house full of kids but were only able to have my sister and I because my mom’s health took a rapid turn after I was born and they didn’t want to add even more stress.

The one time you dont want to skip the line is when when its medical triage. I was in the hospital in excruciating pain and was told I was getting pain meds as they determined it was a kidney stone. Suddenly the medical staff disappeared for quite a while. I was upset bc I was in pain but waited. Come to find out, a patient had been brought in by ambulance who was flat lining. They were put to the head of the line.

My husband and I have been together for 6 years, married for 3, and we decided very early on that, due to medical conditions we both hve, no kids would be happening. My mom and dad accepted as, if they had known that my dad had the condition, they would also have opted out of having kids. Hubby's mom, a nurse and one of the sweetest people I know, also accepted without a fuss. My extended family and his stepdad, however, did not. They nagged at us every time they saw us, to the point where we have gone mostly no contact. My youngest cousin had her baby a couple of weeks ago and it all started up all over again.

I know, it's so selfish. Those grand kids could suffer greatly because their parents don't want to be parents and are bad at it. If they want the experience of grandchildren so bad then adopt more of their own, be a foster parent, or volunteer with kids. I know it's not exactly the same but forcing your kids to have kids is just wrong. I'd be like "You gonna pay for all the kids expenses and a full time nanny? No? I think he meant like the way we read about how pagans were 300+ years ago. Sorry if this comment is offensive. I know a couple of people who are pagan, but sadly don't know much about what it all entails. The town I live in is very religious and they tend to keep their stuff on the down low. That's how some of the doctors were (at least in my country, don't know about others). At the start of this whole madness, people began going to the hospitals because they had a few mild symptoms, only to find doctors hide away and refuse to see them because they were scared of the virus XD

The grandkids story p!sses me off so, so much. Can't say I'm surprised by it, though. I'm childfree as well, and it's pretty rare that a week goes by where I'm not called selfish by some stranger on the internet. It's almost always coming from other women too, which is kinda depressing. But the worst part is, they're the most selfish people of all! So many parents had children for narcissistic reasons, and they don't even realize how hypocritical they are when calling others selfish for not wanting kids. Something that has given me comfort when I’ve been stuck waiting a long time in the ER after going through the initial check is knowing that means that whatever is wrong with me isn’t that serious. They’ll try to keep you as in line as they can (I believe), but people who have worse emergencies get higher priority. So if I’m waiting, it’s because I can afford the time. And as much as that sucks, it’s nice to know my emergency isn’t that threatening.

The choice to be chilldfree is a tough battle. I went thru this in my younger years and compounded my sin by refusing to marry. The one about the couple who didn't want kids and their parents is honestly terrifying. My boyfriend and I absolutely DO NOT want kids. Ever. We want to both finish college before we get married, so it's not causing any problems right now. But my parents talk about how great it is to have kids and how great it is especially to deliver your own. (I am female and have a bunch of complications physically that honestly make me terrified of even the idea of becoming pregnant, not to mention delivery.) My dad and I were talking a but one day and I eventually said that if I ever decided that I wanted kids, I would adopt, not have them biologically. And he ended up not having another argument and basically said "I deserve grandkids with my genes" ????? wtf????? I don't think he was really hearing himself when he said it, and if we talk about it again in a while, maybe my parents will be more accepting. But until then, my boyfriend and I have decided that if anyone asks, we're just going to keep saying that we're not ready yet, indefinitely. Does anyone else have this kind of issue? Has anyone else reconciled this kind of thing with family and how?

I'd call CPS on her. That kid shouldn't have to go through that like EVER! I had to go through a similar situation when I was babysitting for friends. I spent over 12hrs there 😫 and the kid (still a nice young man) has autism. I was understanding of the situation after I got some rest. I still got paid the normal rate that they put in place. OP, you guys should put a pass code on your venue, flowers, catering etc. They will definitely try other places to prevent or try to prevent you two getting married. You two are adults, it’s you and your fiancée’s choices to not want children. It’s NOT ANYONE else’s business. So they are going to cut you out of their wills? I'm a 31 year old single woman with no kids and I've considered having the tubes tied multiple times. I haven't gone through with it because maybe I'll meet someone who will change my mind - which I'm open to - but for now it's either no kids or adoption (because there are too many orphans in this world and I would like to help them instead of "making" my own kids). I think that every second generation immigrant is low key like that to a degree. Second generation greek immigrants think that people who live in greece carry around a supply of plates to be broken on a whim. I think that their parents are usually so fond of the home they remember that try to keep it pristine. But the thing is that the home has most likely changed dramatically. Afterwards, the children learn to love and cherish the home and when they have nowhere to draw information from, they turn to media: movies, songs, etc. For you irish people, they turn to medieval fiction and fantasy. For us, it's... well... my big fat greek wedding.

As a kid I once hurt my ankle on a bounce pad at a zoo playground. It hurt terribly when I was trying to put weight on that leg and there was a general numb discomfort. My parents took me to my mother's primary care doctor as they noticed that it wasn't a terribly bad injury and there was no need for an ambulance. So a 45min drive later the doctor referred me to a orthobedist who had an x-ray mashine. I got xrays and they found out my ankle was just sprained. I got a bandage, had to avoid putting stress on the injured foot for a couple of days and recovered in less than two weeks. No emergency room visit, no awful waiting hours, no place or time needed for real ergencies occupied. I am thankful for being raised this way.

I am a pediatric nurse and used to work in a PICU-pediatric intensive care unit-in the DC area back in the ‘90’s. One day we had the son of an assistant to the president in the unit. Another child went into cardiac arrest. I went to close the doors to the unit as I felt someone try to come through. It was a high level person in the White House-NOT the president. I said, “sir, you cannot come in as there is an emergency.” He replied,” I’m so-and-so and I can come in here.” I responded, “ No, you can’t “ and put my hand on his shoulder, turned him around and gave a shove to his back, slamming the door behind him. I was know for YEARS for throwing this guy out of the PICU!
