I dont understand the lyrics, but when I google it, the meaning is overwhelming. No wonder it sounds like it created from heaven

Hear, smith of heavens. The poet seeketh. In thy still small voice Mayest thou show grace. As I call on thee, Thou my creator. I am thy servant, Thou art my true Lord. God, I call on thee; For thee to heal me. Bid me, prince of peace, Thou my supreme need. Ever I need thee, Generous and great, O’er all human woe, City of thy heart. Guard me, my savior. Ever I need thee, Through ev’ry moment In this world so wide. Virgin-born, send me Noble motives now. Aid cometh from thee, To my deepest heart. This song is perfection

The text is from the 12th century, but the music was written by the contemporary Icelandic composer Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson. He skillfully combines a medieval-style melody with renaissance-style harmonizations, but with certain more modern harmonic touches. You can buy the sheet music at mic.is/2014/01/30/arstidir-heyr-himna-smidur-how-to-buy-the-sheet-music/ I certainly intend to do so, so I can learn to sing it with friends. Health Guru's assertions about A 432 vs A 440 are interesting. Bottom line, I'd say one should sing it at whatever pitch suits one's comfort level and personal acoustics.

It means ,,Listen to me you creator of heaven". This is an old church song, often performed at funerals. You can find it in many choir versions. Being an Icelandair I think this is one of the most beautiful songs we do have.

Heyr himna smiður (English: "Hear, Heavenly Creator") ...look up the poet on wikipedia, it'll actually provide a translation of the song they're singing. Kolbeinn Tumason was his name.

Original version is for choir and astonishingly beautiful. A poet from 13th century and a composer in the 20th. What a match! Heyr, himna smiður

ahhhh thank you for this gorgeous singing and incredibly expressive hymn. I would love to hear more of you all singing a cappella without amplification, the way you are in the video in the train station in Germany (where you sang this). It is very special.

Beautiful song but Yee are singing at 440Hz please try concert pitch A=432Hz the natural universal sound good for the heart,makes it much easier on the vocal levels. DNA and at cellular levels.Research this A=432Hz everyone.Thank you.
@SaraWeeda10 жыл бұрын
YES! In our music academy they tuned one of the pianos to A=432Hz. Though I think it can sound a bit too dark for some piano pieces it certainly is very comfortable for the voice and the ear.
