The hymn "Heyr, himna smiður" was written by the Icelandic viking Kolbeinn Tumason in 1208 and is the oldest Nordic Hymn that has been preserved.
The music and arrangement was composed in the 1970s by Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson (1938-2013), one of Iceland's foremost contemporary composers.
This string version was performed and arranged by Jean-Samuel Bez (violin) and Guillaume Lagravière (cello). Performed live in the Fríkirkjan church in Reykjavík, 2021, during our Vetrarsól Online Stream.
