Thank you for these! I wouldn’t of attempted this job without your videos. I didn’t use the cam gear lock tool but it all seems to be good! I was careful and tied off the cam gear and did the adjustment. Not sure it was ever even needed 🤷♂️

Fantastic videos, I'm learning so much, I've done valve clearance on my suzuki bikes before but was not to confident on trying it on my 2020 tuono 🙁, I'll definitely be giving it a go now. I'd love to do a base line check now as I'm at 800 miles. Thanks very much for your time and effort.

I'm assuming that some or at least one of the suzuki bikes would have been an in line four or some bike with bucket and shim type adjustment.. Why not feel confident with the Tuono? Is it because it's a V engine ? Fear not amigo, it's the exact shame principle which you already know 🙂 A Haynes manual might boost your confidence a bit because they explain things a bit better than the manufacturer's service manual. Take your time, go steady and double check your steps, and always turn the engine by hand when the task is finished (that saved my Gixxer's valves once 😬)

great videos - but, just checking, on 4 stroke engine , the valves only open in 1 stoke of the 4 strokes. So on 4,000 rpm each valve only is active on 1/4, so valves only opening 1000 times. Right? I think you said on 14,000 rpm valve is operating 7,000 times.

Great video man! I like the tid bits of info you toss us throughout. Would you suggest 0w40 if it's not getting changed as often as yours (every other track day) for bikes that rarely see the track? I just got my first RSV4 (2012 RSV4R ARPC) and bought it sight unseen from 8 hours away from an Aprilia dealer. They said they did a full valve service etc. First ride... loud tapping and red caution light. Took plastics off, started it for a short time to give it a close listen with the plastics off and found the rear cylinder is the culprit so I'm going to check the valves this evening myself this evening.
@ShaunNielsen2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, its a great bike. Make sure you check the valve clearances at very short intervals to keep it healthy

I've installed a Pipercross filter on my RSV4 and it eliminates the two plastic frames that hold in the OEM. I used my phillips and tightened down the three (L/R/Bottom) screws pretty good. Are you suggesting just snug only or is there a specific torque needed?
@ShaunNielsen7 жыл бұрын
Just snug is fine. Tighten them like you would any other screws in light plastic, like a kids toy or appliance

Sprint airfilter or K&N? K&N already installed when i bought the bike. Airbox was full of dust and dirt, little sand also. Any thoughts?
@ShaunNielsen6 жыл бұрын
I use K&N for air and oil. Clean out your filter and airbox then coat the inside with engine oil to trap as much dust and particulate matter as possible. Check it every time you do an oil filter change and make sure the filter seals properly. Pay close attention to any dirt that makes it past the filter.
@Alexauscelle6 жыл бұрын
Hm i will buy a Sprint filter or go back to OEM paper filter.
@Alexauscelle6 жыл бұрын
Shaun Nielsen my K&N looks different and i have no plastic fitting thing on it. i have an RKB 2011 Factory aPRC. And i use original K&N filteroil and cleaner. Why is yours not red?

Hi Shaun, I'm also in Dallas and am wanting to know if you ever designed your own cam tool? I have a '17 RF and in need of doing a valve check and would rather purchase yours if it fits better than the factory Aprilia one.

hello! Can you please let me know what diameter are the shims used for the valve clearance adjustment? I believe the OEM ones are 8.75mm. Would 8.8 or 8.9 work? Also, it would be great if you can advise where to get the shims from online. This may have been answered but there are loads of comments to go through Thank you very much :)

How could you pop the throttle bodies just like that? Did you loosen the intake manifold clamps first?

Yes, although aprilia uses single-use clamps so i had to cut them off first.

Sorry for the delayed response. You should have them checked - or do the check yourself. Better to check and not need adjusting, than not check at all

Hey @Shawn. Dude tell me you have the cam holder you made on order. If so, how can I get one from you. I'm deployed to Bahrain for awhile and these racists pigs at the local Aprilia dealer marked up the valve adjustment price to over 700 Bahraini Dinar because I'm african american. You inspire me to tackle this pain in the ass job with no fear. AF1 won't deliver to my address. Can you give me some relief?

So how does this work with factory warranty or are you already out of that window? I assume you do all the maintenance on your bike and was wondering what Aprillia thinks of it. Say you were doing all this work within warranty would they throw a fit?
@ShaunNielsen7 жыл бұрын
aprilia is famous for not honoring warranty. Several friends of mine have had warranty claims denied, for one they used a picture of him riding the bike on a track as justification. They found the picture on facebook! This bike has been track-only since i got it so warranty was never a concern of mine. Judging by your screen name you have nothing to worry about. I hear BMW value their customers and stand by their warranty.
@s1kkris407 жыл бұрын
Shaun Nielsen That’s crazy they went to Facebook looking for dirt on him. From what I’ve been told they do for the most part. Just depends what goes wrong and if any modifications you installed could of contributed to it. Nice channel though even though I don’t own a Rsv4. Very interesting

hey matey, I just checked out this vid again im due valve clearances now, 40,000kms on tuono v4 2015 - I dont have 'any issues with start and they were last checked around 25,000 kms, what you rekon, advice appreciated?
@ShaunNielsen7 жыл бұрын
I would always suggest checking valve clearances. If you can do it yourself - great. If you have to pay someone else to do it, its an expensive job but consider the price of engine damage from a tight exhaust valve that broke because it didnt get any cooling effect from the cylinder head...
@mcprocrastinator79217 жыл бұрын
bugger, yup, I think I could follow this vid, prob is lack the tools, so guess best to take the hit - thanks for the advice buddy.

Hey Shaun, at 10min 40 sec you start removing the Variable intake assembly by the wrong screws, but don't obviously correct yourself. Not a problem for me as I know that is not the way the remove it. But somebody just lost their springs from the assembly by following your video. You should edit that bit out so other people don't go down the same path. ;)
