Sanatogen multivitamins and the national anthem elicit wholesome memories for me. The horror of the Enniskillen bomb and on the same day the Border Fox shooting up a town in Louth after a domestic with his wife. Dessie O'hare /aka the Border Fox/ a man of innocuous appearance but a veritable madman and fearless when in possession of a weapon. Even now after all these years, he is incarcerated again in Portlaoise prison. ♣️

How R T E has fallen to a very low dept , There was a time when the news readers diction was just perfect they would pause before reading the next news item , Today there is one whose voice is more like that of a Corncrake and her clothing resembles something from a jumble sale ,another claims Kerry heritage { shame on you for such a claim ] Bryan Dobson ,Eileen Whelan, Eileen Dunn ,and the cream of presenters is AUDREY CARVILLE are Excellent , and where is our national anthem , yes i know there is 24 hour broadcasting but so also is there 24 broadcasting at BBC radio 4 but they play their national anthem EVERY night as a mark of RESPECT to the licence and tax payer ,Thank You.

It is much the same here in Britain also though on the BBC and ITV really too alas somehow; even the other channels there are too alas. Perhaps it is that times have altered or changed I wonder too though of course I wonder?

BBC Radio 4 plays the national anthem because it closes down for the night before handing over transmissions to the BBC World Service until the morning.

Were there any Dubliners who actually spoke like Ron Cockburn and Vere Wynne-Jones in real life? (Wynne-Jones is from Limerick, according to Wikipedia, but to me his accent sounds just like Cockburn's anyway.)
@stewartlynch78593 жыл бұрын
Don Cockburn was a genuine Dubliner. Before working in RTÉ he worked for Dublin Corporation. Hence his off screen accent was pure Dublin.

Wow, so in 1987 on a Monday, the national channel of the Irish Republic would go off the air at around 11.30pm. That is very early! Did RTE ever stay up late during the 80s?
@johnking51748 жыл бұрын

Hang on, sorry, they repeat news bulletins??? So say their lunchtime news is at 1pm, is that repeated right through the day until their evening news?
@johnking51748 жыл бұрын
I do remember with the old ITV News Channel which closed in 2005, they would re-run the News at 10.30 from 1.00am-5.30am overnight, but have short live summaries on the hour. Shame your RTE could not do this, maybe have live updates on the hour before the re-run material. Then having euronews on overnight is a joke, why do they bother?
@johnking51748 жыл бұрын
I heard that RTE provides no breakfast television service at all. It is 2016 and they just air teleshopping, euronews and I could not believe it, a repeat of the previous day's daytime show called "Today". Does that still happen?
@cormacdoheny4707 жыл бұрын
+John King Even back then, I don't think they'd close down that early, though, usually.
