The thematics for "downgrading an elite" for the purpose of seige (according to our group) is the unavoidable casualties that happen while attempting to do so. (at least how our group justified it) Extrapolating from there is difficult beyond "it just makes it balanced" ... that or explaining that haradrim are born from deceased oliphant eggs (in that faction's case).
@RTFM4 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good way to look at it. And I've always suspected that there was more to those oliphants than meets the eye.

wouldnt it be the other way around? otherwise you could just eliminate a regular unit whereas the elites have the special guys that can breach the walls (but will probably die)?
@zarejonathan3 ай бұрын
In my mind, "elites" were kind of just a generic term for a higher quality of unit. So while, say, the Isengard elite piece is a Warg Rider, that doesn't mean every elite Isengard unit is a Warg Rider. When it comes to downgrading elites to continue a siege, I consider that utilizing specialty siege equipment (ladders, towers, battering rams, or in Isengard's case, maybe even sappers!) - the elite unit, having been said siege equipment, is spent, and its down to just normal troops.

A question that I’ve never found an answer for online and is a bit vague in the rule book, the rule that you can only have a total of 10 units per region, does an elite count as 1 unit or 2 in this instant, eg. Can I have 5 elites and 5 regular units or would this be to many?
@shotadevdariani71709 ай бұрын
The way I understand siege is that. if I attack a fortress i can keep attacking by sacrificing 1hp from my army BUT I can also stop attacking and stay in that region around the fortress. This is the only way that sorties makes sense to me. I think it also makes combat interesting because defender can attack from adjacent tile that's not fortified.

Tks for the great video, it’s a lifesaver. Although, when you were explaining about the political track, you said if an enemy enter your nation’s region, we should move this region tracker towards the At war box. So, how can it happen, once we are not allowed to move into an empty enemy region? Sorry if it was not clear, I definitely lost something in the way
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
No worries. Let's say Sauron is at war but Gondor isn't. Sauron units can move into Gondor territory, but Gondor units can't move into Sauron territory (or Rohan or any other nation) until Gondor is at war. If a Sauron unit does move into a Gondor space, that will activate Gondor's political marker, or if they attack a Gondor army, that'll move Gondor one step closer to being at war. Does that help?

Also, can you still move the rearguard into the newly conquered region or do they stay behind?

Dol Guldur and Mt. Gundabad are Sauron strongholds, yes. I'll add a note about this to make it more clear. Characters are always drawn into the fight when defending. In the rare case the shadow player is besieged in two different shadow strongholds and a third one becomes besieged as well, since the board only has two available spots would the 3rd not be about to retreat into siege?
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
Those boxes are just a player aid, and if you have the space for your units, you don't even need to use them, so regardless of how many you have left, you can always retreat into siege. Anyway, it's such an unlikely event that three shadow strongholds would be under siege by large armies that you don't really need to worry about it.

Couldn't the free people place their characters onto stronghold locations alone then to prevent the other player from taking those locations? What am I missing?
@RTFM2 жыл бұрын
Characters can't participate in battles on their own, only when there are army units present. So if Aragorn was sitting on Minas Tirith by himself, the Shadow could just roll in and take it. Aragorn wouldn't die, but he wouldn't stop it either.

14:40 does the effect of the political on this cards also happen on their faction card counterparts in Warriors of Middle-Earth?
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
during set up of Warriors you remove certain cards and replace them with others. The Corsairs of Umbar card, which is what I assume you're referring to, is one of those.

Just a quick question: Is the second edition identical with the first as far as rules go?
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
It's mostly the same, but there are some minor changes. I haven't played the original, but this post on BGG is pretty helpful for this. boardgamegeek.com/thread/738666/2nd-edition-review-side-side-comparison

Ok this was the 3rd video on this game I've watched. It was the shortest and most precise, but i still don't get the game, i guess i am just gonna have to do the last thing left and actually read the rule book :(

Wait do the defenders in siege also roll dice or do they just sit there????
@RTFM2 жыл бұрын
The defenders roll dice as normal during sieges, it's just that the attackers have slightly different rules, which is why I focused on them.

Does a Nazgul get killed if the army in which it was gets destroyed?
@RTFM3 жыл бұрын
Nazgul are removed from the board in this case, but as with the Shadow's army units, they can be recruited again later.

So if you dont use the action die is that die chugged for ever? Is it discarded from the game? Then thats really not a good option…
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
Not quite. Action dice are only lost forever if the character that brought them in is killed. Otherwise action dice are returned to you after each round, with some exceptions for dice that get left in the hunt box. You'll almost never want to leave a die unused though, so this wouldn't really come up either way.

@@RTFM Thanks for quick reply. Just gonna have first game in few hours! Excited! I didnt think about that chugging of the dice until I watched this multiple times so initially I got it right. But then I was starting to think "yeah, he chuggs it into to the bin so....?" :D

if I move an army that consists of Minions as well. Do minions count as part of army during army movement dice action ?
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
Hey, sorry for the late response. Yes, the minions are considered part of the army, so you can move them along with the rest of the units.

@@RTFM I have another question, it feels like i should have dice for some combat card actions to use them but ive never seen rule about it. Otherwise, does it mean i can use a combat card without any cost before each battle phase ?
@RTFM Жыл бұрын
@@shotadevdariani7170 You don't need to have any specific dice to play cards during combat, so yes, you can always play a card before each round of battle.
