For me, the TRX4 chassis kit is orders of magnitude better than the SCX10 III. Not even in the same class. For US$400 you get everything except for a body, and this includes ALL of the electronics (motor, ESC, 4 servos, receiver, and 4-channel TX). It also has a 2-speed transmission and lock/unlock differentials. Best of all, it's a kit. No food that someone else chewed for me. The SCX10-III kit is way over priced for what you get. I don't hate the Axial. I have an SCX10-II and like it, but the TRX4 is a much better value. I just wish I had bought one when I still owned a hobbyshop...

Just wanted to mention a few things since I comp w a trx4 and I run comps at the exoplex w exocaged rc who runs a dig unit in most his como vehicles. First thing, driver skill trump's all features and mods hands down. I've seen people buy season winning comp builds from exocaged and then that person comes in last place the next season. Another thing is, the dig unit can be used in more ways then turns and can be used to assist in very steep climbs. When the vehicle would normally fall over backwards or can't get grip to drag itself over a peak, you often can initiate dig quickly on at the failure point and it will "suck" the back end to the rocks allowing it to push slightly further to grab what It needs w the front tires or to allow it to stay planted for he front to reach more of a break over angle before falling over backwards. Now on to the trx4. The reason Traxxas has the truck set up where it only allows the front to be locked and never only the rear, is because by leaving the rear unlocked it's a "poor man's" dig unit. It allows the sliders to make contact and rotate the vehicle around s rock s lot better, or it can be used when trying to ascen a steep hill and will prevent the rear from getting as much traction and throwing the vehicle on its back. Allowing the front to "pull" the vehicle more than it's being pushed by the rear helping use that front weight bias better and keeping the truck planted. There is a proper way to use the lockers and they are not just a gimmick but can be game changing and j can show video breakdowns of me driving and proving it. For some reason it's just not that common of knowledge and idk why unless it's just most people are not on the serious level of comping w a trx4 as others. Anyway great review I just feel the trx4 was a little short changed and that the other version such as blazer or bronco etc should have been used as they are a shorter wheelbase to match the scx 10 and they dont suffer as bad with such high center of gravity. The defender is basically the least capable trx4 of the group imo.
@RCReviewChannel4 жыл бұрын
Very very good post and I appreciate it very much. Yes agreed on most of what you said. The dig unit on the axial is not that good as it can’t be used under power so it’s not a big help climbing. The TRX4 defender is the best looking but the worst performing of all so I can agree that any of the other versions especially with lighter bodies will be an even better performer.
@shaneclipse974 жыл бұрын
@@RCReviewChannel go to 10min 3 sec mark of this video of joes(I don't own anything w a dig unit to be ablle to present any footage) to see what I mean about using dig in order to climb something too steep for the vehicle. A split second of dig allows the vehicle to lower it's ride height just enough to allow the front to climb. I think a lot of people don't know it can be used this way is why I always try and mention it. I do greatly appreciate your A to B comparisons tho. I feel no one else currently provides the level of direct comparison to the masses in ways that you do and I very much appreciate it when you put in all the extra effort such as the servo tests. I think an interesting trx4 to look at is the Mercedes G500. I know it doesn't get much love here in the US but it's a pretty interesting package. It has all the stuff the Bronco and Defender have but it's cheaper and the body is actually a lot lighter than the Defender and also lighter than the Bronco. I tried all variations of the TRX4 at the store and decided on that one because of the scale looks and performance. I ordered some Treal wheels for it and the Class 1 Hyrax, took out the motor/esc, radio, servo and sold it all for a HW 1080/Crawlmaster Sport 550 10T, AGF A80 servo, and Flysky NB4. Plus, it basically has that Jeep profile look that some people miss on the TRX4 only with a Mercedes logo. Ed: Just weighed the body and it's 350g.

I was torn on these two but didn't want a new battery etc I'd rather run my traxxas battery's instead of buying more. I had 5 already. Somethings I noted about the axial I really loved. The attention to detail on the body. See through windows etc you also can do to the trx for costs. But overall I don't regret it. The axial also has metal suspension links the short usage to my trx I've decided to get skids as mine are gouged up now. Really they're both great. The tires also bigger on the axial but fixed that by raising the body some and getting bigger tires now. Looks like it has a lift kit compared to stock no tire rub on 125mm outer diameter tires. Plus selectable lockers. Given the extra money sometime I think I may just add the axial to my collection just to have but I love love love My defender. Probably couldn't go wrong with either honestly.

Sorry if I missed it, but did you mention the advantage of 2-year-old versus brand new tires? My own Canyon Trails were meh at first, but got better with age. After a year, the foams crushed down to provide outrageous traction. 17:50 -- the contact patch size differential is very clear. Just something to consider, to be fair to the Axial.
@RCReviewChannel4 жыл бұрын
That’s great feedback. Definitely brand new tires need about three or four battery packs before they break in and hit their peak traction. The TRX four foams are indeed too hard so maybe this old ones are better as they have softened up a bit.

I think to compare the weight of the bodies is not really accurate unless you remove the wheel wells from the defender? Yeah the best axial in my opinion is the scx10 ii

Love The crawling course did you make it? or did you find? it or or was it made and you just get to use it? Looks like a great place! You always make videos at my favorite time of the day.🙏

We went with trx4 kits and bought axial Jeep Cherokee bodies. Couldn’t be happier.

Definitely want the defender. Just need to save for one. Got my boys, 4 and 6, a couple 1/12 scale inexpensive defender D90’s. Just ordered the metal upgrade axles and drive shafts for them. My wife won’t let me spend on the Traxxas..... 😪 Maybe someone here is sympathetic and will gift me one 😀🤣 I so want to join in with them! Great review!

I think the TRX Bronco, or Blazer would be a closer comparison. I have the Bronco and love it

Great job comparing, the Defender has more rtr power butt it's top heavy I prefer the Tactical body my wife has a TRX4 Mercedes G500 I lowered the cg and I have a JLU & JT Gladiator 😎👍

They both articulate very well. But I would lean toward the Jeep, the traxxas body is not as finished as the Jeep. Injora I believe has a hard body D110 that is almost a replica of the Traxxas Defender I think would fit the chassis.

hi, great comparison video m8, im thinking of buying a crawler and i was already leaning to the trx4 but the one with the orange blazer body, i realy like the looks of that, i was even thinking of the scx 24 to get me started in the hobby and it would be a great lockdown hobby to start with. is the blazer version better or worse in terms of aproach angle and depart angle? i like the defenders looks and the exo cage i like the most but it looks so heavy in comparison to the blazer, that just looks heavy and brutal but i think its more stable, correct me if im wrong. keep it up m8 i love your video's.

Get the blazer buddy, you won't regret it. I've had the orange one for over a year and it's been great. Nothing has broken nor have I had to do any upgrades. It's just been a great capable rig right out of the box.

Great vid, but I still haven’t seen a out of the box caparison. (With the SCX 2speed set up)
@RCReviewChannel4 жыл бұрын
The reason is the scx10.3 does not come with 2-speed out of the box. It's not very good though with 1.5x the speed of first gear. So 5mph top speed becomes 7.5mph.

Can you make a video on cleaning crawlers after use? Or do you all not clean them.

TRX4 but... I do love my scx24's I'm leaning towards trying out an axial 1/10 crawler, I'm just not a jeep fan lol, hopefully they will have another body for the new one! Good video brother!

Axial needs to toss that stupid "DIG" feature. Make the 4x4 selectable to 4x2. Add selectable lockers.

Traxxas trx4 is advance chassis design out of the box. Axial need work redesign to make better one maybe scx10.3 2.0? Haha good job 👍
@andrewhaigh15314 жыл бұрын
I'm lucky in having both - the TRX4 has been completely faultless over several 100 miles of very mixed trails - quiet, competent and gets on with the job - a great classic all-round crawler, even if it is best to upgrade that slightly weak steering servo. The Axial? complete failure of the esc/receiver after about 6 hours use - and repairs also showed a fault on the transmitter. The 2 speed gearbox, once activated - and why isn't it from the factory? - needs better spaced ratios, and it is really noisy. This machine does not topple the Traxxas from it's high-ground, and in the case of mine, truly is an overpriced piece of junk. What a shame.

I have a TRX4 Bronco, and I will get a SCX10 III but with gladiator body soon... I like the larger distance and how it looks, but I will keep my TRX4. Trailing is funny with it!

😊 I've been reinstated in the RC4LYFE Family....Hopefully I won't let the fun hobby go again. First, Thanks for this video I am in the market for a crawler and these Machines are just what I need but hard to choose which one to get first. Traxxas might be my final answer though.
