I just am getting a deal on a 1660ti model of the same machine I already have and after doing enough research on the 1660ti machines I came to the conclusion the only real thing I'll be missing out is Ray tracing which on the 2060 is more a feature it has over an actual function.

For anyone who is planning to buy a new laptop, only rtx machines can do gsync on external monitors. So although the performance difference is very close, gsync can smooth things out considerably. Also, I would be curious to see the low 1% fps to know which one performs better.

they might as well revive the 'M' suffix as the RTX gpus are severely underperforming compared to it's desktop counterparts. I get about 95fps in shadow of the tomb raider 1080p maxed settings on my RTX 2060 pc build.

Thank you for this review.... It confirms what I was seeing with my Helios 300 (GTX 1660ti) vs my brothers MSI GE75 (RTX 2060). Most games we are almost identical (he is normally 1 to 5% faster)... but with the slower clock speeds of the RTX 2060 you also generate less heat. Personally I re-grease and under-volt so I never exceed the high 70s for both cores.

@@KiraOniiChan The Eluktronics laptops with the 9750h use a special boost. It's something special on the motherboard that allows it to operate much faster. So the 2060 beats even a 90w 2070 MQ. Overclock it and it gets close to a 2080 MQ. Their 1660Ti, 2070MQ and regular 2070 all should boost up by at least 10% in all games. If you are looking at another model of laptop the 2060 will at least give you an advantage should Ray Tracing take off . The RTX 2060 runs at a way lower boost clock and better temps but still matches the 1660ti on a higher clock. If you want to get atleast 4-5 years out of your laptop, spend a little more and get the 2060 laptop even if you don't care about ray tracing. It's worth it but if you have a strict sub 1200$ budget, 1660ti is a no brainer

Great comparison Steven on the 1660ti and the 2060 RTX. I have been trying to decide which way to go and this really helps. When it comes to the Eluktronics Boosted mech series laptops, do you think that the 1660ti version would not be able to boost as much as the 2060 RTX because it comes with a 180 watt power supply vs the 230 watt power supply in the 2060 model? I did contemplate adding them in this video but felt it would complicate it a bit. Perhaps a follow up would be better , but one thing to note is that the Eluktroboost even pushes the 2060 past the 2070MQ when that is at 90w. Its not a regular turbo boost and I do feel it won't be fair to the Helios 300 and certainly not representative of what other 2060 laptops will do, even if they have a turbo boost.

I have 1660Ti in my MSI GS65 and it hovers around high 60s and low 70s with normal fans (can get cooler with max fan but too loud) I've undervolted my 1660Ti @ 725mV (stock 1590 clocks) and after 3D Mark Timespy it registered 71C/69W on HWInfo FYI.

The 2060 does have the benefit of those tensor cores to handle Ray Tracing and that is a feature we will probably see more of so I would say the 2060 is more futureproof .

It will in games like BF V, it even bottlenecks a GTX 1650 because, with only 75% GPU utilization. I think most other games will be fine though. I am doing a CPU comparison video. I will have to see if I have ever tested a 1660Ti/ 9300h combo. Mostly it's been the 9750h or 3750h.

Depends on what you value. G-Sync offers more performance with less battery life. Nvidia Optimus offers a little less performance but can substantially increase battery life in a product. If your panel is 120hz and up it's not a necessity, but it still eeks out a little more performance without the bottlenecking from the integrated graphics.

17.3" GTX 1660ti laptops are not super common, more expensive than their 15.6" counterparts. The GS75 GTX 1660Ti is the same price as the Aero 17 at $1800, I like the Aero though.

When on battery Optimus will kick in and run on the Intel GPU unless you are gaming. So differences in battery life will depend on screen power , RAM power etc. You can disable the dGPU but will have to install it again afterwards.

Helios 300 is overclocked on the gpu and undervolted by default and during your test you should make an even playing field and undervolt the eluktronics and overclock its gpu for an actual comparison but if you have done that already pls let me know cause im curios

Helios has a better color gamut screen probably (assuming they use the same 120 hz panel as on my GL531GU) but the G531 will have better cooling, speakers and CPU performance.

The 2060 model will be on average 5% faster than the 1660Ti one , the effect of turbo mode will be the same. The Turbo mode on the mech 17 used in this video is not like any other turbo mode, I saw an average of 16% improvement with that and you won't see that on the Helios 300

The difference in GPU isn't going to be a big thing, I would pick one with the best screen and for me an SD card reader is a must for all my video files from my camera.

Tne difference between the 9750h and 8750h is negligible really, so we are talking $200 for an extra stick of RAM.. that is alot. You can buy a good 2 x 8GB dual channel kit for $70.

This answered my question for me whether or not to get the Acer Predator Helios 300 w/ 1660 Ti for $1200 or the Eluktronics Mech-15 G2rx RTX 2060 variant laptop for $1500. Or I may go down the middle with the Eluktronics Mech-15 G2rx GTX 1160 Ti for $1350.

One thing the Mech 15 will have, as long as you have the 9750h CPU it will boost up to 16% higher as per the review of the Mech 17. That puts it ahead of the 2070 MQ easily.

@@OWNORDISOWN Yeah, I was planning on getting the 9th Gen version with Eluktroboost. I've read personal user reviews saying that the GTX 1660 Ti variant punches above it's weight as well on Eluktroboost mode, beating out RTX 2060 laptops' performance both in gaming and benchmarks. I've yet to see a video review on it from either yourself, Jarrod's Tech or BOAT. It would be interesting to see how that 1660 Ti variant in Eluktroboost mode stacks up to the Acer Helios 300 2019 in Turbo mode in gaming and benchmarks. Possible video idea for the channel perhaps?

In my opinion, 1660 ti wins for laptops by far, the 2060 is much more expensive for a negligible increase in RTX off performance. Plus, I’ve yet to get below 60FPS on any game I’ve played. Very happy with the Helios w/1660ti.

Both laptops are at stock. No undervolt, no overclock or turbo boost of any kind. I wanted it to represent any laptop with that CPU and GPU combo. Even the 8750h laptops will be comparable.
