RTX 4070 Laptop GPU Has Only 8GB VRAM And That's Bad.

We love the new Asus ROG Strix G18. We really do. Fantastic design, awesome 18" display, great temperatures and acoustics during gaming, all the jazz. We will however highly recommend that you DO NOT choose the RTX 4070 Laptop GPU SKU and below.
8GB of VRAM just isn't enough. Seriously.

I bought this baby a week ago, and honestly, it feels like it's the most perfect machine for the price and specs. I got the 2TB one for $2300, I've had zero problems with it, playing Cyberpunk at max settings and max ray tracing at a consistent 75-80 FPS, which looks beautiful. And that's when the fans aren't even at turbo, just at performance mode which are still very quiet and I can game without headphones. The surround sound 3D audio is fantastic 🔥. 8GB of 4070 VRAM is plenty and I barely reach 6GB usage at a time. I'm super happy with this beauty and recommend this over the Zephyrus or 4080 versions, just cuz of the price-performance value.

Thanks for sharing some positive feedback on this unit dude. Where I am, the 4080 version is $1300 more.... I can't justify that. So I'm glad to hear people are having positive experiences with this.

There are 3 fans, right? Does it cool down well ? Can you manually put the turbo on to the fans and you have the 18 as a screen ?

It features Thunderbolt 4. If you require additional VRAM, consider opting for an external GPU. The 4070 is more than sufficient in 2023. Reviewers sometimes fall into a mindset where they are either overly accustomed to the hardware they test or believe a video is incomplete without a pros and cons list.

Anglais I have been using this laptop for 3 months and I can tell you that 8gb and more than enough to play at 2.5k ultra especially with the active dlss which reduces the use of Vram

Only video games are suddenly becoming super demanding on VRAM, other programs might benefit from it but you will still be able to work without problem with 8gb.

Awesome review! I just got a 4070 G18 sadly as the 4080 only came in a SCAR in my country. Great machine overall except I was let down with how per key rgb on the keyboard was advertised but I seem to only get 4 zone RGB. I know 4 zone came with the Full HD version but mine is QHD Nebula

@@silverpro8356 I hit an average of 80fps max everything on jedi survivor which so far happens to be the only AAA game my machine had a tough time on. If I had 12GB VRAM then the 4070 will be hitting better FPS. Battery life for browsing on iGPU is ok, but editing and gaming must be plugged in or you only get a few minutes on battery when on 4070

A 4050 6gb is perfect for 1080 high preset gaming. A 4070 8gb, paired with an excellent i9, is more than enough for 1440p high preset gaming, 4k 30 fps.

Buddy, not everyone wants to/ can play in 4k. Dont outright say statements like "8 gb is too little". 8 gb vram is perfectly fine for 1080p gaming and to an extent, 1440p

hey not necessarily bad , i bought a second hand laptop on amazon with a rtx 3070 with 8gb of vram as well for 980 euros... i already have a desktop gaming pc with a rtx 4080 so i won't plug it in anywhere it is to play when i go on holidays etc ... for the price of less than 1000 dollar i am ok to make compromise as i have no other laptop that i can use for aaa recent gaming

Vram is the ram in the gpu specifically which is in the card it self which you can't, the ram you can change is the normal ram

However, you can ask a super specialised technician to mod the vram but at the cost of warranty. I have seen an article where a user modded his 8gb vram 3070 to 16gb

The RTX 4070 is there only to push people to the more expensive RTX 4080. Too little of a performance boost over the RTX 4060, and the same amount of VRAM. The RTX 4080 is a different beast. 50% more VRAM, around 43% faster than the 4070 and only around 8% on average slower than the 4090. The 4070 is just meh. And the 4060 is also meh, because it is a tiny upgrade over the 3060, and only a 30% performance upgrade over the 2060 refresh. NVIDIA is just plain bad value in the midrange segment. Where are you AMD and Intel? There is money to be made. Consumers need more competition in the industry. We want to pay less for more.
