RTX a2000 6GB vs 12GB in a Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF

A comparison of both GPU in few latest games would be very helpful to decide how much extra performance we can get by getting 12GB variant. Can you please test few latest games which are GPU intensive like hogwarts legacy, red dead redemption 2, cyberpunk 2077, elden ring etc..

I picked up an OptiPlex 7010 SFF a few months ago from eBay. It didn't have a GPU but was very nicely refurbished and had 16GB of RAM and a 250GB SSD. After seeing videos like this I purchased a 6GB RTX A2000 (also from eBay) and added an additional SSD (500GB) for game storage, and have been enjoying playing AAA games in my Steam library at medium settings. It's a nice budget gaming computer.

@@OptiGPU It just got better. Yesterday I upgraded the CPU from the stock i5-3470 to an i7-3770. For those who wonder why we do things like this with old computers, for myself I do it because it's my hobby. I ended up with a PC that does all the day-to-day stuff with modern software (ignore the benchmarks, they don't tell the whole story), and I can play AAA games when I want to.

@@noonespecial6076Fortunately I didn't have the manual 🙂 Seriously though, I saw this same installation done by another KZbinr and bought/installed the GPU based on their recommendation. Since the card draws 70W and the rail supplies 75W I've never had a problem with it.

Well, this card, on both vram variants, is a complete overkill for that old cpu, that's not even the top tier of its socket (an i7-3770k). Also benchmarking the 12 gb got a way lower cpu result of 2381 vs 2771 of the 6gb benchmark, and that influenced too much the total score, while the graphic score got 5881 vs 5736, so there was an improvement. You should investigate why the CPU got a lower score on the second card... Why don't you try the cards on a more recent system with pcie 4.0 bus?

I'm using an HP Elitedesk 800 g1, i7 4790(k) and I'm kinda mad that you managed to get the 12gb version for just 300. I got the 6gb from Amazon for 250 just before people really started to realize what a deal it was. It's fine for gaming and whatever else, but I just recently started dabbling with Stable Diffusion/AI art and 6gb is kinda the lower limit for using the tech at home. There are games that are starting to push the limit of GPU memory to be minimum 8gb, but my 4790k is pretty much maxed out on this HP motherboard (can't overclock), so I doubt it'll be helpful with those newer games (but 12gb might be more useful when I eventually move out of this PC which also makes the fact you got it for 300 annoying!) Mine only came with a full size bracket, but luckily I had moved from a SFF case to the tower case to get more airflow and fit extra hardrives, so full height was just fine. Heads up to anyone considering the HP though; USB3 ports on the G1s are hobbled by WIndows 10 drivers.

A good video, but at least use a Dell 9020 / 7020 - I7 4790 with 16gb ram because you can pick them up for under $100 or I7 7700 with 16gb ram. These are $100 and less and best bang for your buck. If you are spending $200 - $400 on graphics cards, a Dell Optiplex - I7 8700 CPU, 16gb systems are under $200 and with this graphics card are solid fit. At some point, old 3 gen CPU's, computers are landfill material.

hi sir, new subscribers. Can you give me an advice on what GPU to get?, I have Dell optiplex 3040 SFF, with i5 6500 and 8gb ram dual channel. But I still don't know if the PSU is 180 watts or 240 watts because I still haven't open it the pc case. The only games I am going to play are Valorant, Rogue Company, Roblox, Farlight84 and Fortnite mostly shooting online games.

I'd say you have the 180w PSU if you have the small form factor version . Tower version has the 240w version . Your probably safe with a card up to 50w. You have to remember it's not only the CPU that uses power , had , fans , memory and usb devices all take their share too . and even though it's rated at 65w when it boosts it could get into the 80s

To a point, he is undeniably cpu bound in this low profile dell build, which means the "gains" are most likely impercievable.

Did you actually try to play a game on the 12GB version ? I am sure that the game will look a lot better with more details. Tests are not everithing. Right now in EU (m country) , a new A2000 12 GB cost is ~750 euro, so I would say that you had a pretty good deal for 300 USD.

My day job needed me. I’m planning to wrap up filming on 6GB card today, then film 12GB card tomorrow and/or Tuesday hopefully. My channel is self-sustaining with 100% reinvestment: I resell components after filming as well as flip other things. No day job money used, so getting lots of games and upgrading HDD takes time. I plan to offer use of “super thanks” button for those who want to support the ability to test games faster. I was finally able to turn that button on yesterday.

the 6 gb card is faster, because of the 70 watt power limit. more v-ram means less power for the gpu resulting in lower gpu-clock speeds. (of course this only counts if you stay in the range of 6 or less gb of v-ram usage).

why would he do that? And which one? Xeon V3 go from fast quadcore to slow 22core, so any test would be worth nothing extra except to the 1-2 guys who happen to have that same CPU and think of buying this card. I have a Xeon V3 rig that would suck at every game you can think of, despite it having a Quadro P4000 GPU - because it has 14cores that run at 2.2Ghz most of the time. Running a game on it shows as 6-8% CPU use since 24-26 threads are doing nothing, while the game is bottlenecked by the 2 or 4 2,2Ghz cores it is using and the P4000 is waiting for data. If I switch the CPU for another Xeon V3 the same game will be blazing fast, because the other Xeon is a 3.7+GHz quadcore allowing the P4000 to show it's true colors.

I would point a few things out, if you have issues with 2nd hand stuff but not messing around inside your PC - you're a doofus(not referring to you but to the people you speak of). New doesn't really exist in this context when it comes to the parts themselves, only to your warranty or lack thereof. The thing becomes 'used' as soon as you break the seal on the box, so you can't install a 'new' thing in your PC, only buy it. Second, why would you be looking at this when there are faster cheaper options for gaming? This card specifically makes sense only if you need workstation type features IMO, like literally every other RTX Axxx card.
