I usually start out sitting straight up, but every so often I will do it on my back. The reason I do it on my back is because it is a more realistic feeling as I can bring up my other leg like I have someone in my guard. I feel that sitting up helps with the flexibility more.

if you have the money, you can get Eddies DVD Mastering the Rubber Guard DVD. In it, he explains his entire guard game plus ways to develop the rubber guard.

Have you ever seen someone put their foot behind their head? I know this sounds extreme, but start by pulling your foot up to your chest. If it begins to be easy after a couple days raise how high it is till eventually it's head level. That is basically how you are sitting when someone is in your guard. It's what i've done and rubber guard techniques are becoming increasingly easy

Either your leg isnt high enough , or it is and you aren't curling down and pulling your ankle down hard enough. Also make sure your other leg is curling in and down , or else he will just pass.

The amount of flexibility you need to do that truly effective is ridiculous, also it takes more energy and it's harder to do that guard, not sure about how more effective that is from the 'standart' guard, might be more effective in MMA than in usual jj fights, then again, once it widespread more, much like what happened to bjj, ppl will learn to counter, and the moves like gogoplata are very ninja to execute, need perfect timing for that, you only do it when your enemy is a master of defense
@jamesellis3313 жыл бұрын
Its good to see other ppl talking about jiu jitsu, ppl say all I do is talk about jiu jitsu, but they talk about their shitty football and stupid ass baseball all day. I feel i'm alone in liking this stuff. I hate how this art doesn't get the respect it deserves. bjj ftw!

At 6-4 and 260, I managed to Go Go Plata someone from the rubber guard. This sh*t works. I swear by Eddie's techniques when you're on your back.

Well, you don't have to be EXTREMELY flexible, but the more flexible you are, the more effective it is.
