I am so stressed with my rubber plant. Got it in September and it was glorious a few weeks ago it started shedding leaves and won’t stop. I tried moving it away from the window, I tried watering less, I tried watering more, I checked for root rot and there wasn’t any. All the leaves are droopy and seem softer than usual. At this point I find it easier looking after my drama queen calathea than the rubber plant 😢

Droopy leaves - need watering. Yellow/brown leaves - too much water

Put y’all’s rubber plants outside! Mine looked like this for years. Stunted growth, slow to grow but still healthy. Had good lighting and watering schedule inside. But didn’t put on much growth and looked like the one in this video. I placed them on my uncovered deck last year in a corner where they still receive sun but it’s on the North side of my house and now all 6 (3 to a pot) are all now taller than me. I’m 5’8”. I notched them late spring and they are branching and thriving. These are tropical plants. They need more light and real fresh air to thrive sufficiently, especially if you want them to grow. I bought my friend one at the same time as mine years ago and hers is less than half the size of mine. She put hers out this year under her covered porch and they are doing great but will need more time to catch up. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your plants especially if growth is what you want. I do bring them in for winter. I live in GA for reference. Hot as hell and humid. If you do this do be mindful they will acclimate and one or two leaves may burn, especially Tineke or other variegated varieties, in the beginning but nothing drastic. Since being outside I’ve lost a lot less leaves than when they were indoors.

Of course they're gonna to better outside. They're tropical. This rubber tree if planted in ground they will grow just as a regular tree. They're pretty tall as a matter of fact.

@@pineappledoesbelongonpizza9975 Yes, I know. I’m from the Caribbean so I know that they are tropical plants. This was for the folks who have them as indoor plants in pots in non tropical climates. All plants do better outside in ground or in a controlled environment like a botanical garden where they are massive, like they would be in their natural habitat. And I’m so with you…Pineapples do belong on pizza 🤤😊

@@EilandMeisje85 yup no. I totally agree with you as I have 1 big one and 3 small ones and very little grow. While it's good as it doesn't get out of control. But I also want to see them grow. I'm in my plant era. I also have figs and those are growing like crazy. I use a growing light and focus mainly on the rubber plant but I'm not sure it's doing any good. I haven't seen it grow. But it has lost a few leaves 😮💨. They are difficult I think.

My brother has a rubber plant and his is thriving! Mine has been on the struggle bus since I got it. We live about 5 minutes from each other and keep them in the same facing windows. I have a ton of other plants. He has that and 2 cacti that sit next to his. Am I over watering or does the rubber tree just don’t like me. Also I killed a SEVERLY rootbound one I was trying to “rescue” from my late uncles house a few yrs ago so I don’t have great track record😅

How can I tell when to water, though? Because our plants are outside, with the sun passing them in the afternoon, so most plant care tips don't apply. 😅 My mom got the plants (fiddle-leaf, rubber, pine, money tree, etc.) during the pandemic, and now I usually water ALL of them in the morning. I'm a noob and don't know basic stuff. 😅
