I never liked rubber balls because the tackiness would actually make it react different off the backboard and rim. Bank shots especially, were not the same

The composite balls are pretty good on mostly clean outdoor or indoor courts (if you can’t afford a leather one) However on dirtier courts the composite is really hard to grip and picks up a lot more dirt. I usually prefer a premium rubber grip ball outdoors friends happy hooping.

Good point about the dirt. It definitely makes a difference.

Is it a good idea to purchase a rubber basketball for drills on a blacktop court? And then purchase a nicer leather basketball for indoor play? Or purchase an indoor/outdoor composite for all purposes?
@StreetballStrategiesАй бұрын
I always think it’s better to have specialized tools for certain applications. I would have the two separate basketballs if you can.
@LolRoboShotU Жыл бұрын
Rubber feels better for grip. Bounce is better with composite. I feel composite collects dirt quickly and you lose the stickiness of it. When i dribble and catch the ball in the opposite hand, i dont like the feel of the ball still rotating in my hand. I also hate the bounce of rubber, too bouncy. I rather just play indoor.
@StreetballStrategies Жыл бұрын
Can’t fault you for that. All valid points. 👍🏼
@fireice2585 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the court you're playing. If the outdoor court is dusty, it doesn't matter what ball you use, they will have less grip than a clean court.
@GasGotti24 күн бұрын
The only thing I truly hate about outdoor only rubber balls, is it being too grippy and doesn’t rotate nicely when catching dribbles. Makes it way harder to move with the ball.

how about the weight difference though? I find rubber balls heavy.

I think it depends on how a ball is constructed. The bladder of the ball usually determines most of the weight, not the material of the cover.

Can anyone show me a composite ball that maintains its grippy feel for over 8 months on concrete? I've had Wilsons, Spaldings and within 4 months they ALL become very slippery and completely unusable! I would actually recommend the Wilson DRV pro for a premium rubber ball. It has a lot of snap, but interacts very similarly to composite balls far as the backboards and rims are concerned. It has a very reliable, predictable bounce compared to other outdoor balls, & it has the deep channel feel & softness of an expensive indoor ball. So it shoots and feels very nice. The grip is also VERY reliable. It’s only 30 USD. Got it a few months back, it became my go to outdoor ball.

The regular DSG blue rubber ball...not the tech grip... The DSG blue feels like good composite. I couldn't believe it when I first felt it! It's 20 bucks at Dicks Sporting Goods.

It depends where you are in the US. We’re a huge country and fairly diverse. There are plenty of courts that are rough in areas where basketball isn’t thought of as a priority. But in general, I would say the average court in the average city is probably fairly smooth.

Nike True Grip is the best composite basketball ever. I used mine playing 2-3x a week outdoors for 3.5 years (except 3 months of summer) and it still maintained its grippy feel! By the 3rd year it was obviously falling apart but the grip was still perfect. I have yet to find a composite bball that keeps it's grippiness until its dying day!

Will my basketball skills get worse if I practice with a rubber ball? I’m a beginner but I want to try and go pro if I get the chance…
@StreetballStrategies2 жыл бұрын
There is no reason for your skills to diminish because of a rubber basketball. Some players and coaches will say to stick to training with the equipment you play with. Pros train indoors with leather balls. My opinion is that the more versatile your basketball experiences, the better. I also believe there’s a proper process, a hierarchy. Beginners should use basic, beginner equipment. Rubber basketballs are THE foundational ball for any player.
@DDDd-yz6kz2 жыл бұрын
I have a rubber basketball. Everytime I play pick up basketball, I have to adjust to composite leather balls which are lighter and have softer grip. I would recommend sticking to ball used in the competition you are playing in.
