I've been searching for forever to find a video on how to upgrade my RAM and I finally found it! The model number for my laptop is G7P83AV, so for anyone searching for help with that specific laptop, this video works. The setup is the same, but I also had to remove the fan and it had two RAM slots. Thanks for this video! Saved me a lot of money. :)

O.K. Very helpful video, with two comments: 1) Your hand often obscures the actual action you're performing after you've identified a component. It's not that hard to figure out with experience, but for less experienced users it would be useful to let them see which way you're lifting/tugging/twisting. 2) I get that you didn't realize there's ONLY ONE DIM slot until after you had taken everything apart while making the video, but it would be REALLY, REALLY, REALLY useful during post or in a message to tell your audience that upfront. I just stepped through the same process you did, following along with your video, only to learn after all the pieces are sitting around my workshop that I can't install the second DIMM module I was planning to install by watching your video.

Thank you for this, it was very helpful and exactly what I needed. I have successfully upgraded a HP 15-G077NR from 4GB to 8GB. I did cringe a little every time I saw you drop a screw haphazardly off to the side. One thing I find indispensable for this kind of project is some sort of screw organizer. A small ice cube tray works well. It not only helps you get the right screws back in the right places, but also helps keep you from skipping any steps in the reassembly.

I followed this guide for replacing the hard drive on my HP 15-r127nl (I haven't tried upgrading the ram as I'm scared of breaking it). The steps were exactly the same, so this video helped immensely, however note that if you're inexperienced like me, plugging the flex cables for the power button, touchpad, and keyboard back in is a pain in the ass. Also I accidentally bent the very thin keyboard, so even if it still works it sticks up a little bit on one corner.
@jeremybuckley36628 жыл бұрын
Try taking the keyboard out and re-inserting it. Put the bottom in first, making sure the tabs go into the right slots, then just press the top in. The first time I put mine back, it stuck up a little because I hadn't inserted it quite right.
@TheComputerGuy968 жыл бұрын
I actually fixed it a while ago, but I forgot to edit my comment. I had to push along the keyboard's border with my fingernail and it snapped right back in.

Very educational. A tip that might help in the future. Get CPUID and it will give you the amount of slots used on the board. That way you can decide BEFORE you take it apart if it's a worthwhile upgrade or not considering the time taking the laptop apart.

Thank you so much! Your video helped me to upgrade my laptop! Thankfully, my laptop (HP 15-R212nv) had two slots so I could add another 4gb module. The only problem is that after reassembling the laptop, a piece of plastic was in the way of the hdmi port! So I had to take it apart again...
@robertgregory9598 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Although I have been building my own PC's for years I have done very little on notebooks other than add ram and swap hard drives which in most cases is very easy. My HP 15 came with Win7 and an upgrade "recovery" disk to Win8.1 which I hate. Adding an SSD drive and 8GB, wanted to add 16GB as I thought it had at least two slots and now have a spare 8GB stick. My HP15 was running very slow, a piece of junk in my opinion, tried everything to speed it up so this was my last hope. Your instruction was good to speed things up, there were two more wire connections to undo at the end to fully free up the MB. Now it is all back together, took forever to install the recovery version of Win 8.1, had 4 disks and now upgrading to Win 10 which also takes time. I must have messed up on the KB ribbon as the KB is not working properly, after this Win10 install is done I will pop the KB out. If this thing doesn't speed up, I will take my new parts out and toss it in the trash! Thanks again for the instructional, having all the screws to remove pointed out to you sure speeds things up.

It appears HP meant that particular laptop to live a limited lifetime, then for the customer to buy another HP laptop to replace the first one. Budget friendly can equal false economy. A more capable, more easily repairable and up-gradable, laptop would actually save you money and frustration over time. This reminds me of the current trend of all sealed phones without easily replaceable batteries, a practice that IMO should be stopped. Repair-ability and published repair manuals/pdf's should be mandatory for all machines sold in the USA.

Thank you for the video! I'm working on the same model. I put the thing into hibernate and surprise! Windows 8.1 has this weird problem. If it goes into hibernate, sometimes it forgets where the boot drive is! I had a Samsung 80 gigabyte hard drive attached to the notebook when I put it into hibernate. Now when I turn it on, it gives me 5 choices for an operating system, and they are ** ALL ** the Samsung hard drive! I tried repairing the boot sector. I tried reinstalling Windows. Nothing I tried worked. So I watched your video and removed the hard drive. Next I will back up everything that is worth backing up, and then try to repair the boot sector. If that doesn't work, I will probably have to format the hard drive and then install Windows.
