I was in the Philippines in December 2023 for 3 weeks. While there I ate like a Filipino. I was actually losing weight. When I came back to the states. I noticed the difference in the food because I started gaining again. I've basically gone back to eating like a Filipino. Chicken and fish. No processed or pre packed food. I feel great!! The food in the USA is filled with crap and fillers to make us sick. I am starting a vegetable garden as well.

Charcoal ice cream? Never heard of that. I’m big on vegetable gardening I eat fresh vegetables all summer here in the states from May- December of course I’m not as pretty of a gardener as you are but I get it done. I also have beehives to help me with the pollination of my garden. So I also get fresh honey. Have a great weekend Rubeauti 🌹🌹🌹

I have a "secret" for you, Rubeauti ! You don't realize (yet) how happy you really are where you live (with the simple life). Many living in our so called "civilized / progressive countries" have not idea how toxic their environment is ! You should start a bed and breakfast (network) and get some of us for a holiday to your place... some of us may not want to leave anymore !!! All the best and keep doing the good work.

Most American white bread is made using industrial yeast that combines the whitening process and malting process of the flour, this yeast is resistant to stomach acid, and doesnt digest completely, but instead causes yeast to grow in your stomach which causes a number of health issue mainly acid reflux and urinary track infections (much more stuff), the simplest way to fix it is to eat Sauerkraut and then follow up a few days later with Greek yogurt about twice a month, and it has allot more sugar in it too, to extend its shelf life while keeping it very soft .
@JC-zv3cv

Hey Rubeauti! I prefer those small towns and clean eating as well. They're right, our food in the US is poison. From my understanding there are many additives in our food that are illegal in Europe. The FDA knows our food has unnatural, addictive additives in them, but allows it to be in our food. The obesity there is shocking in certain regions. I like your small town though! What island is that? I'm actually visiting Manila now but will go back to Bohol in a day or two probably.

You're freaking awesome! I think you choose wisely,I had the thought of doing that very thing! Cheap like a local but in paradise! Here in America people rush rush rush and die younger here! And you are correct about food here! It's mostly very bad for you (on purpose) and I highly don't recommend it! Lucky I was paying attention at a young age of 16 studied about it and made better choices! They literally put stuff in the water and food here that is banned in many countries! The majority of the population is unaware of it even though the net has a lot of information about it! If I were you (I will be so to speak pretty soon) I would take a pause and see if that little piece of paradise may be a key to great joy! Can't wait to see your garden! God bless you ❤

On the subject of food. I am 70.living in a small town in England. When i was young we had similar shops to the Philippines. Small Family owned Fresh Groceries and butchers. We knew the name of the owners. A person could have a good conversation with the owner and the other customers. It is part of the community spirit. You felt you had strong roots. you felt you belonged and had a solid base in life. I can only imagine it must have been similar in the small towns of America. The single customer could buy as little as he or she wanted and it was fresh. That is the most important thing for our body. Very little packaging and certainly no plastic wrappings on anything. It only lasted a few days. There was no waste because my mother would only buy what we would eat. Maybe planning the meals for the week. We were poor but blessed because we had fresh food to eat. Over time the supermarkets put these shops out of business. Changed the high street and the community spirit that was the soul of it. The food scientist have had to take over to feed so many people in the world. I understand that. If i have the choice I will always choose fresh food. Rubeauti is showing me. Especially with her growing fruits and vegetables. That is the way we should all be living. Reconnecting with the land and nature. Thank you, Rubeauti for having such a beautiful heart and mind and sharing your story with us.

I changed my diet years ago and lost 35kg . I don't eat any processed foods, nothing with sugar, no soda etc and a low carb diet. I try to eat only whole natural foods. I find lots of things from the Philippines have way too much sugar in them, the peanut butter and spaghetti sauces are super sweet to me, I can eat them. I get all my sugar from mostly fruit and real honey. I think it's great if you have some land to grow your own fruits and vegetables especially with the prices today for organic food. ❤

Yeah you have to stay away from a lot of the processed foods here in America. Good advice I've heard is to, "Shop on the edge." That's where you find all the produce, veggies, fruits, and meat. But the middle sections where all the isles are where all the processed foods are like bread, cereals, snacks like chips, and frozen foods. Your food is definitely way better than ours though!

Even around the edge these days is unhealthy in your average supermarket. When I pick spinach from my garden it begins to wilt within hours. If I buy "organic" spinach from about any supermarket, it can last in my fridge for months. I don't know what they do to it, but I suspect they irradiate it. The milk and dairy come from corn fed and other things fed to cows. The meat too. If you have ever eaten a backyard chicken egg, the yoke is orange. It is bright yellow from a supermarket egg. The chicken meat come from a rapidly growing chicken, that is an industrial secret how it is bred. Almost all the produce is laced with pesticides and grown with artificial fertilizers. And it is getting worse. Oregon has declared war on the small farmer. Pennsylvania and other states are going after the Amish farmers.

@@RubeautiThe food is very scary here. The food I grow in my garden is delicious and full of flavor. Nothing compares to the great feeling of eating living food grown by your own hands. It is so tasteless and bland from the super market, it has no life. I feel so much better during the season I can eat from my garden. I think you know what I am talking about when you pick a fresh mango off the tree. You are in for a wonderful treat with the garden you are about to grow. I will love to see your videos on it. You need to grow garlic in your garden. It has so many healthy benefits. Plus it makes your food taste wonderful. Research plants that compliment each other and grow them together. The native Americans here for example, would grow native corn, beans and squash together. They are complimentary plants that benefit each other, if you get into growing those type of plants. Probably not a traditional Filipina diet. But if you do, you need to get native traditional corn, probably from Mexico. Not the hybrid corn that comes from the USA, because that corn is bad for you.

Yes i would agree with you about the food. Its better when its fresher and without all the chemicals and preservatives. In the US its still possible to get the more naturally grown fruits and vegetables. Out in the more rural areas is where you find it. The smaller towns are great, less hustle and bustle. I lived in a small town in the Philippines and it was great. However, every now and then i had to get to the city because i was getting a bit bored. I guess i just needed a temporary change. I'm very excited about your garden. We here in Canada always grow a garden, and actually still have some frozen tomatoes in the freezer. We always grow too many. One piece of advice is watch that manure. It will make your crops grow better, but there are some health risks. Do not grow root crops in that stuff. We put lots of leaves in our garden in the fall, and come spring they are half rotted and the garden grows well. We also have a big compost box that we move once a year, so ya, your idea of compost is excellent. You go girl!

Planting and get seedlings is easy, but it is soo difficult to actually have tomatoes growing in the Philippines. In Norway I never had a problem growing tomatoes in my garden, but in the Philippines I really struggle. I grow bell peppers, chilies and all kind of herbs. I even have now lots of trees from lemoncito and lemons that I sprouted from seeds back in 2017. They are thriving in the jungle. But tomatoes, not so successfull. I hope you will manage to get some nice veggies from your garden. Also you should consider having some chicken for eggs and goats for meat.

Yes. HFCS, High Fructose Corn Syrup, is the sweetener used in place of sugar in the USA, and it is 14 times more fattening than the sugar it replaced. Some other chemical stuff on the label (Fanta) is probably bad ju-ju, but HFCS was obvious. It is outlawed in some countries, but it is in most bottled and packaged food products here.

We only ate strawberries, cherries, plums and other foods in the short season they were available. It made such treats more special! Is there a possibility you could set up a rainwater collection system to save your drinking water? Many countries won't allow some US food stuffs due to genetic modification or use of chemicals. One concern is that in the Philippines there appears little control over what you are getting and how it’s grown. But, even though food production in the US is tightly controlled, there are many time preservatives added that typically may not be as healthy. Looking forward to getting back this year and eating my breakfast pandasal, fresh tomatoes and bananas.

@@Rubeauti Do you rent or is that your place ? Looking to buy a small place with small land so I can spend winter in a warm climate, just a small place nothing fancy or is it better to buy some land a build a small place on the land ? Could you check out some prices for me ? If you wanted if the land is cheap you could build a place for yourself on the land also then you could keep an eye on both places when I come back home for the summer.

Back in the 1970's and 80's while living in the Philippines I had a meat grinder and a pressure cooker from Shoe Mart which worked for us very well as the beef and carabao we bought was grass fed. In the 70's I ate a lot of beef stew or Afritada. Plus we made and used a solar still for our fresh water. But we also ate plenty of fish from the ocean and other seafood and sea weed. Sarap at malusog.

Hi Rubeauti, I sent you a message on Facebook. Here in the U.S. I lived completely off grid for over 6 years. No running water, no electricity, no phone, just freedom. I miss living that lifestyle.

My ex wife was from Germany and the food quality was one thing we discussed. If you’re eating a lot of fast or processed foods, they’re not the same. Even pasta. She didn’t believe me at first and she had some trouble with weight gain.

Hey Rubeauti, may you be greatly blessed. Yes, it's true that food in the America is very unhealthy. It is over processed and full of chemicals. I would suggest that you plant lots of peas and beans. I would also suggest that while you are in San Juan that you check out the Church to see if they grow food for sale. Also, I am curious how in an overwhelmingly Catholic country you have become a Seventh Day Adventist? Just a thought, with the clean waters around Dumaguete and Siquijor that you buy lots of healthy fish. God bless and keep you!

I first came to The Philippines in May 2018 and I've now been here since September 2019. I rented a beach house in Southern Leyte for 16 months for P20K. It was very nice, the water was about 20 feet from the backdoor, the sound of the waves all day and night was relaxing. Usually once a month I'd travel to Tacloban which was a three hour van ride. I then spent five months in Malate and a year in Taguig about a fifteen-twenty minute walk from SM Aura and Market Market. I loved the Metro supermarket. Since then, I've been in Sta. Mesa and Cainta. I would enjoy living in the provinces by the water again, preferably within an hour of a city with a major supermarket.

I noticed the difference on a few occassions when staying in Manila, BGC, and Quezon City when it came to the food. I ate a lot more than normal, but felt so much better - no bloating etc. Each time, I stayed in the PH for 3-4 weeks. Once back stateside, I had my annual physical and was concerned about my cholesterol. The doctor said my results came back excellant. I looked at the numbers to verify and was honetly surprised. So, yes, there is definately a difference.

Hi Rubeauti. Nice video and nice you are going to have a garden. Fresh is always best. I have no where to have a garden but I do have a place in Dumaguete that I can get good fresh veggies and also Valencia Market. This past Sunday I got the best tomatos I have found here and a good price. Love your new look. Keep smiling and stay safe

I absolutely admire you. Your resourceful and fearless. I'm moving to Maramag soon. I was raised on a farm and agree 100% about the food in America. When McDonalds was introduced to Okinawa, the longest lived people on earth, their lifespan dropped over 20 yrs! I have CHF(congestive heart failure) and one of the biggest reasons I'm moving there is diet. Here veg are expensive and red meat is subsidized to make it affordable. It's killing us.
WHY DID I LEAVE BGC to live in a rural area?
