Another beautiful art history video, Jill thank you very much. It made up some memory. Peter Paul Rubens was the first popular European artist whose real works I had seen in the museum in 2017. It was so massive in size and jaw dropping beauty of them, paintings made me both demotivated and motivated at the same time as an aspiring artist. I travelled 400 kms just to see them and I never regret the decision, as after watching them I started to see art differently , then I used to before. Also I didn't know many artists, who I didn't know as they are still not very popular to the general public but after Rubens I dug some and I'm still grateful for this small but impactful event of watching Rubens in the museum. Without that exhibit, I might have given up practicing art.

How wonderful to know your background with Rubens, and thankfully you were able to find that inspiration through his work. I'm glad my short video helped in that way as well.

Always a joy to listen and look at your video's. I believe that art / culture can save what is left of society and that humans promoting it, will need to have their names mentioned at one point. Thank you

Dandy talk... I want some of that Rubens' skill and obvious joy he invoked through his sketches/drawings.

Thank you. I am a portrait painter and appreciate these masterworks. These are finished works and not studies if done today. They capture what I call the psychology, the inner life of his sitters. This is why they look so real. Is there a book on these? And where could I get one? If you have any info. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for compiling and posting this video. P.s. you commentary is very detailed and insightful about painting techniques.

They really are psychological studies, aren't they? I'm glad you're enjoying them. I am not aware of a single book on Master studies (that would be great!). I know I saw a book on the studies of one of the Masters I feature, but I can't recall which one right now. I usually use reliable online sources for this research. I do have the following book and have used it on occasion as one of my references: www.betterworldbooks.com/product/detail/painting-techniques-of-the-masters-9780823038633?shipto=US&curcode=USD&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADMQnG-c58wDuQ7FxuoXpK_ixngoX&gclid=Cj0KCQiAu8W6BhC-ARIsACEQoDCzHoEusdcdbR0iKPsE4CFkRuO562CCLtUrPbTOTpCRMrKNPPoi_kwaAnvYEALw_wcB

In his 'sketches' you can see his craftsmanship, which was also seen as Rembrandt's better in his time.
