Question about the orbit cube variant: can the round pieces on the non-red/orange sides not be turned 90 degrees?
@yellowmarkers4 ай бұрын
@@nerdiconium1365 The gimmick of the Orbit Cube is that, when you turn a face 90deg, the four circles on the inside also turn 90deg in the same direction. You can't turn the circles manually. So: - If the puzzle is solved (or if you've turned the non-red/orange sides 180deg only), the vertically bandaged circle pieces block the red/orange sides - If you turn one or two of the non-red/orange sides 90deg, that still doesn't unblock the red/orange sides thanks to the vertically bandaged circle pieces that weren't included in the side(s) you turn - If you turn one non-red/orange side 90deg, you can't go ahead and turn a different non-red/orange side after that because the circles on the side you had turned become horizontally bandaged, blocking any other sides So it's essentially just a floppy cube (3x3x1) but with orbit pieces

The image in the video is the puzzle's solved state. The goal of the puzzle is to get it into that shape, with the weird bit sticking out like that. A lot of these feel like gimmicks of the exact same mechanism, just changing up the shape, and I know a lot of people are fascinated with this type of puzzle, but I'm actually kind of glad that I never became one of those people who's really good at solving them, not because it's bad or anything, but because I don't see a genuine advantage to perfecting the skill. What is it transferable to? Other shapes of the exact same product? There's all running an army of people out there who can solve these things in a matter of seconds, and computers that can solve it even faster, but what are they contributing to the world in general? I'm genuinely asking because I don't know why it's so popular.

there's multiple parts to the cubing community - some enjoy speedsolving more than collecting various puzzles. speedsolving, especially depending on the puzzle requires years of optimisation and dedicated practice. however, on the collecting side, most puzzle vary drastically in their solves. it is true that some puzzles are simply shape mods of others, however it is far from the truth to say that they are all functionally identical. even in official puzzles, for example, take a skewb - a puzzle that rotates around its corners. this clearly cannot be compared to a 3x3 for example.
