It's not my railroad but I asked the owner that exact question. He filters the water and checks the ph and other levels to keep them in check.

Those AML cars have a distinctive wheel squeaking… at least I am pretty sure it’s coming from an AML car. Also, is that indoor outdoor carpeting for the turf throughout? Looks really good.

Actually that was coming from a couple of the coal hoppers. Not sure which now as there was a mix of Bachmann, mdc, usa and aristo hoppers in that train. Not indoors outdoors in carpet. It's recycled turf from a ball field.

Definitely not AI, and judging by the views, a lot of people have been able to enjoy seeing this layout. Unfortunately, it's not my layout, so I can't really extend an invitation to it.
