Another nice track from Murray Gold in the season opener: Space Babies. This track plays when the Doctor offers Ruby a Tardis key. Overall, I would not say this is a favourite story of mine, but there sure is a lot of nice pieces of music throughout. Check out my channel for more, and feel free to show your support by liking and subscribing!
Currently planning on doing one more track from this story, but we shall see...

As fast as some people view him giving her the key and inviting her on board the tardis, I think it’s similar to when 11 brought Amy with him because of the crack and him being lonely. Ruby has the mystery of her birth mother, where she came from and the snow revolving around her so naturally the doctor would want to investigate. Even him scanning her at the end reminds me of 11 scanning the crack and later on Amy’s status of pregnancy.

That's a pretty decent way of putting it. My only combat to this would be, the Doctor never gave Amy a key. The Doctor only gives the companion a key once they feel truly connected and safe with them. Unless the Doctor trusts someone completely, he wouldn't give them the key to his own Time Machine (capable of making absolutely anything become possible). So in that respect, I think it's majority different. 11 brought Amy on board for the sake of understanding her. 15 is doing this simply because he wants to know more about her, but because he also trusts her so very early on. Which isn't normal behaviour for the Doctor. So you do make a good point, but I do also think it's still out of character for him to act so quickly on someone he literally doesn't know whatsoever and has so much mystery to. Someone even he understands so little about and defies everything he believes in (such as the mystery of her birth to the mythological things happening around her). He gave Victorian Clara one because of his fascination with her and how much he loved her personality. Her ability to act like the Doctor whilst also staying true to herself. One of the reasons the Doctor loved Clara so much. So, in short, yes, it's similar to 11 and Amy. But I think once you break it down, it's the complete opposite. Great comparison though.

@@Lucien0012 that is very true, I didn’t consider the giving of the key being such an act of faith and trust but yeah it definitely shows a strange quick acceptance of ruby as his new best mate. This could probably be down to Russel making Ncuti’s doctor more open and talkative of his past than the likes of 13 and 14 due to the rehab that went on. Or alternatively Russel is just using the key as the method of bringing ruby on board rather than simply asking just to make the event more meaningful and a unionisation of the two

@@nathxn05 That's one of the many things I love about when a companion receives a TARDIS key. It's not just some random key. It's such a massive thing. It's humongous. Being given a key to the TARDIS itself is beyond anything you could imagine in terms of having someone trust you so much. That's why these moments are so special. Because it shows you just how much the Doctor and the companion have grown together. Martha's was truly special. Her being granted it after saving the Doctor's life. The Doctor knows full well just how horrible he treat her. He knows he mislead her and made her feel insignificant. So the moment she saved his life (in episode, '42') he begins to acknowledge her and admire her true potential, giving her a key as a means of a thank you and entrusting her with, not just his life, but the Universe itself (widely speaking). We know the Doctor was very scared during the moments he was becoming possessed by the Sun Parasite. Martha being the only person he could count on during this time. As we know, Ten trusted Martha massively, giving her a mission towards 'The Year That Never Was' and having no doubt in her. Even "As if I would ask her to kill," speaks volume. Martha, being a doctor, not willing to take life but to save it. Something the Doctor would always see precious about her. Hence giving her a key to the Universe itself (again, widely speaking). I know I'm rambling a little, SORRY, lmao. I'm not a fan of how open 15 is. Admittedly, I understand he's gone through therapy. I understand he's had a moment to think about everything that's happened in his life. A chance to sit down and live a normal life before heading back out into the depths of the Universe. To which, I can somewhat agree is a reasonable explanation towards him being more open and selfless. But for someone who's had a picture-perfect image of who the Doctor is for as long as I can remember, I hate this idea that he's such a light-hearted and open person, willing to let anyone in. For me, the Doctor's always been closed off. Someone who doesn't take well to another immediately. And if he does, he shuts them out. Mainly out of fear that he'd get them killed (like we see with Lady Christina). So I hope we see a darker side to 15 to show how much weight the Doctor carries. Because, when all said and done, the Doctor's past (and trauma) is the most important thing about his character, which ranks him beyond any other fictional character out there. So sticking to that past is very important (at least in my eyes). What do you reckon?

@@Lucien0012 don’t worry about your rambling lmao I get the same about this show, so much so that my family probably get sick of it💀 But yeah I totally agree about the preference for the doctor’s darker and more cautious side as it displays their vast history and experience in the universe alongside their emotions, though I do think 15 is displaying the burden of his past, just in a more mature and reflective way than shutting down and keeping it in. Like when he talks about the genocide of the time lords, Susan, and how he’s lost so much. That history is still apparent, it’s just he’s grown to accept it. After all, that’s what caused 13 to become more restricted after seeing gallifrey destroyed again and not being able to open up about it. So in this way I do miss the lack of openness but I’m open to the character growth, as I’m sure 15 will become burdened from new trauma as all other doctors unfortunately have done before him. Back to Ruby and him though, I wish they didn’t rush into their bond being so close already as really they barely spent the Christmas special with time to just talk and get to know one another thanks to the hangry goblins, then episode one she did show initiative as a companion does to go with the doctor and help out. Maybe it’s down to the lower episode count, modern TV, or the trust will backfire when her background is revealed? I noticed when she was singing in the devil’s chord it kinda sounded like the trickster’s theme from SJA so maybe it’s intentional? I’m just happy to have doctor who tbh but yeah I need more spicy drama with the doctor’s history and character, which Moffat’s ‘Boom’ will hopefully provide 🤞🏻.

@@nathxn05 Oh, 100%! Whenever I watch an episode, I've gotta watch it alone because my family and neighbours think I'm getting kidnapped or murdered with all the screaming and waffling I do, lmao. My family either lock themselves away or go out drinking when it's on because of how much I overreact (in a good way). It's a curse and blessing at the same time. I do love the idea that 15 has somewhat recovered from his trauma relating to the Time Lords and destruction ("AGAIN") of Gallifrey, but I feel like it's not enough, in a way? He's had a human lifetime to recover. But over hundreds of years and Time Lord lifetimes to actually experiences said trauma. In my view, he's outweighed by all the bad than what good there is so far. For me, I feel like 15 is simply trying to act cool and happy to hide the darkness within. As to not scare off Ruby so quickly, especially since he's trying so hard to understand who she actually is from a biological and a physical level. Which kind of explains why he's so open to 14 and trying to get him into thinking everything's fine when it's not. Giving him a sense of hope. An opportunity the Doctor doesn't get to experience that often. We've had companions come in that have a secret past, or one we don't understand yet (such as Amy and Clara), but none on a level which invokes superstition and supernatural qualities. Ruby is unlike any character we've ever seen, which creates (though may be metaphysical) snow from nothing but memory. Which really does show just how far she is within this spectrum of unusual and questionable entities. Something I know the Doctor is absolutely dying to know more about, as am I. I admit, I absolutely despise the snowing. Especially in places it literally would not snow at all (like a spaceship). But I feel like it's going to be revealed at some point. Hence my interest in getting to know what's causing this superstition to begin with. Perhaps Ruby's birth parents? I said the EXACT same thing about The Trickster over on Twitter! Haha. So glad someone else sees it the way I do. Question is, is she being protected from something or is she PART of something? HMM. We've never really had a companion come in and be the villain when all said and done. So something along those lines could be great (though I doubt it, since she's *[SPOILER]* ..... apparently involved in Season 2)..... *[SPOILER END].* I think Russell rushing into their friendship is a bad idea, but hopefully it does pay off in some way. I think, for me, 15 is TOO open. Though that may be my bias arsed talking, lmao, because of how much I love New Who (2005+). But we'll have to wait and see.
