The only thing I will zing Ruby Rose on is the fact that Maybelline (which is owned by L'Oreal) DOES test on animals. So, I LOVE her for everything she advocates and for being who she is, BUT if we're talking about what is ethical, I don't think we should remove ourselves (as human beings) from the subsequent mistreatment, abuse, and violence against animals for the sake of "cosmetics." Especially when they were both talking about being aware of our ecological footprint. There are also a ton of companies that have vegan and vegetarian products (LUSH is one I can think of at the top of my head) among others that are cruelty-free. That made me uncomfortable. There needs to be accountability when artists are literally the face of a brand, and I'm not disavowing the tremendous work Ruby Rose does, but that was quite the poor reflexivity.
