I beat H2 legendary for the first time with my buddy a few months ago. I felt like I was in Edge of Tomorrow on every mission, just live, die, repeat until you learn all the spawns. We did it in 3 or 4 sittings, about two or three missions at a time and it is so mentally taxing. We started a CE legendary playthrough, which I've done solo before, but you can actually just vibe and have fun while the encounters are still difficult.

H2 is too easy on legendary and way too easy in co-op. Turn on increased enemy rank, no radar and if you play with a buddy turn on restart from checkpoint if one of you dies.

I can understand why the official release never included marine enemies. Notice how in any halo game you never have to fight any "good guys"? Probably because a lot of people would get very upset about it. Now that modding is a huge possibility, it's the right time to include it.

Bungie removed Grunts and Hunters from being Allies in Halo 3 because they were afraid of players being confused and committing friendly fire. I heavily believe this is why you do not directly encounter Marines as the enemy in Halo 2. Bungie believes we're too stupid to figure this out.

@@MrZy84 they are supposed to be more resistant than normal humans and covenant, the mutations hardening the flesh and bones to create combat formes able to puncture titanium armor with their claws. Also, making them one-shotable with melee removes a lot of the utility og the shotgun and specially the plasma sword. Melee should just stun then even from a gameplay perspective.

@@dearcastiel4667 Flood mutations give them bony calcium like structures which are strong against flesh. But i doubt its hard enough to pierce titanium. Probably you got the idea from Chief's halo 3 armor. He got that claw mark after having his shields down and having been hit by a few plasma bolts. And a claw slash on a semi melted armor plate is what you get for the claw mark.

Wow, the idea with marines allying with the sentinels intrigues me so much... Its a shame that we never got to see more interaction with humans and the flood in those levels, or between humans and the arbiter at all. My other note is that even despite watching on 1.5x (carried over from a few videos, trust), I was still able to follow along perfectly, but hearing the string theme at the end... I had to return to normal speed and listen to it again. I dont think Ive ever had a gaming youtube video almost make me cry. Looks like Im installing Project Cartographer again...

Imo the reason you don't fight humans is fans at the time would not have liked that. It was already a bit controversial for fans for the arbiter levels to exist at all, so many would not have liked having to fight the side they identify with.

It makes sense too as the forerunner AI in them would detect them as the reclaimers and try to assist them, especially if they look to be headed for the index and were fighting the flood. Sentinels helped you at the end of 343 Guilty Spark but before Spark actually arrived after all.

Some feedback after beating the mod: 1) I would very slightly increase the damage output on the SMG when single and dual wielded. Even if you have the jump on an enemy, the weapon's base damage is too low and when you do win the gunfight, your shields and health are so low that a single stray plasma bolt can clean you up. Because of this, the only way for SMGs to be viable are when you dual-wield them and rapidly weave in and out of cover while firing in second long bursts. This makes them effective, but it's very monotonous and not very fun. Other than that, the health damage is fantastic on the SMG. 2) Plasma Pistols are a lot more fun to use now, but I would suggest increasing the health damage slightly because it does take quite a few shots to down an enemy compared to the CE PP, even with the buff. Given the projectile velocity nerf, it largely gets outshined by the plasma rifle. 3) Plasma Grenades have a MASSIVE damage radius, you can get one-shotted from like 3 meters away. 4) The marines have some crazy range with the shotgun, not sure if this is due to the buff or not. 5) I would nerf the phantom turret health even more, since destroying them takes too long and the phantom leaves once you're done anyways. Other than this, the mod plays fantastically. Brute plasma rifles from this are probably my new favorite weapon!

Been really enjoying this mod so far, it makes legendary much more fun to play. Some personal feedback I would give from my experience so far: -The magnum is SIGNIFICANTLY better at killing shielded enemies than any other projectile weapon in the game, even when not duel-wielding. While it should be powerful as it is fairly rare in the Halo 2 campaign, I feel like its rate of fire should be toned down a bit, making it a bit more similar to CE's pistol. -The needler, while fun as hell to use, still isn't really viable for fighting at anything other than close quarters and it's quite frustrating how I see the enemies only die from the needler after they've already killed me. At the same time, it isn't really fun to fight against as the projectiles are slow and predictable but extremely hard to dodge, so your only choice is to take cover which interrupts the flow of the fight. This is the case in base Halo 2 but since there are far more enemies with the Needler with this mod it becomes much more apparent. I suggest increasing the speed of the needler projectiles but decreasing their tracking ability, and maybe changing some areas to make sure there aren't too many enemies with the Needler at once. -The Plasma Grenade feels far too lethal in this mod, both when using it and when having it used against you. The one-hit kill radius is much larger than it is in vanilla H2, making it extremely easy to die to, and at the same time if you get a good throw it can easily annihilate an entire squad at once, one-shotting elites even when they are relatively far from the center of the explosion. I believe the lethality of the grenade should be toned down and it should only one hit kill Elites and the player if they are standing fairly close to the grenade. -Enemies dual-wielding plasma rifles, especially the jetpack elites, are very frustrating to fight against as they kill you ridiculously quickly and with the buff to the plasma rifle's projectile speed it's difficult to avoid their projectiles. This isn't really that big of a deal, though, as there aren't many sections of the game where you fight multiple enemies of this type at once. I've only completed the first few missions with this mod so far, so if I have any more feedback I'll be sure to add it. Aside from a few annoyances, I have been loving this mod, so thank you for making it!

Holy hell this is cool! Despite playing Halo 2 first, I played Halo 1 the most due to its fun moment-to-moment interaction. Each level felt like it's own story, not a transition to the next cutscene. After hearing about the rushed nature of the development, I've been hoping for a mod just like this and am glad to have found it!!

8:20 Jackals can actually use plasma rifles in vanilla Halo 2. In Delta Halo after the first inside section with lots of ghosts you emerge into a large square outside area with a building in the middle that you end up going inside. There are two Jackals that start on the edge of that building and on Legendary on they have plasma rifles.

Nice to see the Magnum be buffed! I think it fires 12.7mm, like a Desert Eagle pistol, so it'd make sense for it to deal high amounts of chipping damage. It's odd too when compared to Infinite's Sidekick pistol, which fires 10mm cartridges

The CE mod does get rid of a couple of annoying situations, but I felt it kinda redundant. However you ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT with this one. I finally can have fun on legendary. This is how it shouldve been back in 2004 and I can't wait to see it when H2 comes to steam

Dude, this is awesome. Thanks for putting the time in to improve the game. One thing I do think is strange is the Arbiter fighting human enemies. I say this because from a story standpoint, it makes him feel like more of an enemy than a potential ally, which he becomes by the end of the story.

Dude you have got to do this for the upcoming Halo 2 mcc on pc. I have never even thought about half of these possible balance changes, but when you say what you have done it becomes almost essential for Halo 2's game play to be awesome. This with updated graphics would make even SPV3 shake in its boots, and possibly create the best Halo experience ever.

We don't fight Marines in Halo 2! Wow, watching 9:24 It never once occurred to me. Of course we could always shoot a few in the face as Master Chief and they'd turn on you, but we never once had them incorporated in levels as enemies. Bungie missed a huge opportunity allowing us to play as the Covenant, but not once fight the UNSC as enemies. Sure The Flood use UNSC equipment sometimes, but that's totally different thematically from actually fighting humans.

Rob Alexander You'd think Bungie would be OK with marine enemies in the Library levels considering Marathon Infinity aka Marathon 3 had human enemies you were forced to fight in many levels. Marathon bobs as enemies are cheap hit scanners though, like the shotgun zombies in Doom but without spread.

It drove me NUTS in the vanilla game that you never fought humans as the arbiter! It felt like playing as an elite was pointless if you're only fighting the same enemies that the master chief was already fighting, just reskinned. Halo 2 was a great game but it definitely had some missed opportunities, and the way they implemented the arbiter was one of them. Really awesome to see you added in human fights. can't wait to played this in MCC PC!

As for suggestions I would mainly suggest increasing ammo counts on pickup and starting weapons since if you start a fresh level or pick up new weapons it takes a while to get them to the new max ammo capacities.

I think that's okay. I think it's more satisfying to gradually scout for and compile more ammo for the weapon rather than starting with a huge amount from the get go. Encourages looking around and keeping an eye out.

i think one of the big rules for bungie and 343 has been, "no fighting humans", thats why at least in vanilla, arbiter never fought any, nor have we seen the unsc fighting the resistance despite having great potencial in lore and gameplay.

"The most fun I've had from Halo usually comes from big battles". Someone please tell that to 343. Both 4 and 5 only had around three levels per game where you have allies; and in 5 you never even get to fight alongside the UNSC. Then there's infinite; which seems to be going the FarCry route where you're just alone on the over-world save for specific allies in specific places. I just can't get over how they didn't realize actual military conflicts were a major part of Halo's DNA.

The Heretic Elites actually DO do melee damage, but only in an odd 45 degree cone, so they can’t hit anything directly in front of them.

The only issue with increasing your melee damage is that you already have variant melee damage depending on if your jump striking and the weapon type.but if ur cool with it awesome lol

@@RubyofBlue Only issue is something I believe stems from the vista port. At times the game will be jittery and laggy, changing the anti alas seems to fix it after changing it a bunch, but still. And I found out that the vista port is limited to five installs, after that the cd is unusable. No wonder it's taken so many years for Halo to return to pc, the first two attempts are disasters. And yet they used those versions for anniversary.

@@RubyofBlue Only major complaint that may just be halo 2, or the vista port but the ai for allies seems more braindead when it comes to following me. I had this happen a few times when I played Halo 2 the first time (on vista because I didn't own a 360)

@@RubyofBlue I love the magnum in this, I almost wish it was the starting secondary for all chief levels, except for delta halo for obvious reasons. I like it a little more then CE's because of the sound effect, really glad they changed the sound in CE anniversary

I mean if we're being realistic to the Halo canon any melee attacks should be like a one hit kill with the exception of brutes and hunters who will only take 2 hits before dying. It's not really shown off that well in the games but Spartans and Sanghelis are fucking strong as shit. Like if you got punched in the face by a Spartan II who isn't holding back you'll probably be decapitated as the force hitting you would be like a concentrated airplane kamikaze attacking you.

I don’t know if you’ve already done this but I feel like the flood spawn rate and amount should be increased. Them being spongy was only half the problem with Halo 2 flood. The other half was that there wasn’t as much of them as there was in Halo CE.

The problem with the Hunters in Halo 2 isn't that they're too weak, it's just that the most of the times you encounter them, you have a Sniper or Beam Rifle available. I would have simply left the Hunters as they are, and remove the stun effect that grenades give to hunters. This would make sniping them a much harder task and balanced them well in my opinion.

I love the original Halo 2 on legendary speed running or regular play dang you nerfed the jackal snipers xO those are the best part lol, I used to hate them but if you play through all of the games on solo legendary a couple times legendary becomes easier

I don't think there is, but is there a way to change the Elite AI's behavior in Assembly so that they move a lot more during combat? They really don't move anywhere near as much as in Halo CE, and it makes them way easier to fight while decreasing the quality of the game.
