A modded Halo 2 Campaign that makes various balancing tweaks to make the game more fun and fair. But also several tweaks to weapon and vehicle attributes, and tweaks to the AI on every level and what weapons some of them will use. All for the sake of fleshing out Halo 2 to reach its full potential.

I actually like that the heretic grunts would stay and fight because the heretic elites treated them so well.

Gaming is amazing. Bungie worked their asses off to get this game out, and they were not happy with it. Years later, fans are able to seriously improve what Bungie considered an unsatisfactory release.

Then greedy Microsoft implemented Fortnite-esque seasons to the game constantly updating the game breaking all of Ruby’s fantastic Rebalances so now they will never work until modding tools come out. Which Microsoft will never ever release because it means people are making better gaming experiences for free, and they can’t have that.

I beat H2 legendary for the first time with my buddy a few months ago. I felt like I was in Edge of Tomorrow on every mission, just live, die, repeat until you learn all the spawns. We did it in 3 or 4 sittings, about two or three missions at a time and it is so mentally taxing. We started a CE legendary playthrough, which I've done solo before, but you can actually just vibe and have fun while the encounters are still difficult.

@@stoneoceaaan1439 Unfair comparison. Halo 2 is way harder and completely unfair. Meanwhile in Dark Souls you become an indestructible demi-god of pure dodge roll with +15 dual wield zweihanders by late game.

H2 is too easy on legendary and way too easy in co-op. Turn on increased enemy rank, no radar and if you play with a buddy turn on restart from checkpoint if one of you dies.

Unpopular opinion: the Flood being super-resistant to melee damage is a good thing, as they don't rely on specific bones and organs to live...

But the flood is a bunch of walking zombie any blunt damage to it will break off any cartiledge and bits will fall off

@@MrZy84 they are supposed to be more resistant than normal humans and covenant, the mutations hardening the flesh and bones to create combat formes able to puncture titanium armor with their claws. Also, making them one-shotable with melee removes a lot of the utility og the shotgun and specially the plasma sword. Melee should just stun then even from a gameplay perspective.

@@dearcastiel4667 Flood mutations give them bony calcium like structures which are strong against flesh. But i doubt its hard enough to pierce titanium. Probably you got the idea from Chief's halo 3 armor. He got that claw mark after having his shields down and having been hit by a few plasma bolts. And a claw slash on a semi melted armor plate is what you get for the claw mark.

@@dearcastiel4667 They are resistant to damage pain unlike any living beings, as their nerve system have been overriden and shut off during mutation. So even with bits and pieces dropping off they are still able to fight

I know it’s a year later but I agree, I remember being so thrown off when the level set up humans would be fighting in the same spaces but I got there and had no marines to fight

I can understand why the official release never included marine enemies. Notice how in any halo game you never have to fight any "good guys"? Probably because a lot of people would get very upset about it. Now that modding is a huge possibility, it's the right time to include it.

@@NinjaTyler In the UK, halo is rated as 16, and I think if we had to kill humans the age rating would’ve had to be upped to 18. So maybe it’s something to do with that or something similar

Bungie removed Grunts and Hunters from being Allies in Halo 3 because they were afraid of players being confused and committing friendly fire. I heavily believe this is why you do not directly encounter Marines as the enemy in Halo 2. Bungie believes we're too stupid to figure this out.

Unpopular Opinion: The BR in Halo 2 (multiplayer) makes using any other gun besides power weapons completely pointless, it needs to be refined.

I wouldn't say useless, the BR can't stand up to the right combination of duals, but I agree is it overpowered. It's given laser-accuracy for multiplayer.

I love that we can finally fight Marines as the Arbiter! I always thought that was a missed opportunity to actually play as an elite fighting humans

Wow, the idea with marines allying with the sentinels intrigues me so much... Its a shame that we never got to see more interaction with humans and the flood in those levels, or between humans and the arbiter at all. My other note is that even despite watching on 1.5x (carried over from a few videos, trust), I was still able to follow along perfectly, but hearing the string theme at the end... I had to return to normal speed and listen to it again. I dont think Ive ever had a gaming youtube video almost make me cry. Looks like Im installing Project Cartographer again...

Imo the reason you don't fight humans is fans at the time would not have liked that. It was already a bit controversial for fans for the arbiter levels to exist at all, so many would not have liked having to fight the side they identify with.

It makes sense too as the forerunner AI in them would detect them as the reclaimers and try to assist them, especially if they look to be headed for the index and were fighting the flood. Sentinels helped you at the end of 343 Guilty Spark but before Spark actually arrived after all.

Imagine if halo2 mcc had the same level of mechanics for the flood as halo 3. Killing ths marines and flood . As more opportunities for flood combat form to created in battle.

Some feedback after beating the mod: 1) I would very slightly increase the damage output on the SMG when single and dual wielded. Even if you have the jump on an enemy, the weapon's base damage is too low and when you do win the gunfight, your shields and health are so low that a single stray plasma bolt can clean you up. Because of this, the only way for SMGs to be viable are when you dual-wield them and rapidly weave in and out of cover while firing in second long bursts. This makes them effective, but it's very monotonous and not very fun. Other than that, the health damage is fantastic on the SMG. 2) Plasma Pistols are a lot more fun to use now, but I would suggest increasing the health damage slightly because it does take quite a few shots to down an enemy compared to the CE PP, even with the buff. Given the projectile velocity nerf, it largely gets outshined by the plasma rifle. 3) Plasma Grenades have a MASSIVE damage radius, you can get one-shotted from like 3 meters away. 4) The marines have some crazy range with the shotgun, not sure if this is due to the buff or not. 5) I would nerf the phantom turret health even more, since destroying them takes too long and the phantom leaves once you're done anyways. Other than this, the mod plays fantastically. Brute plasma rifles from this are probably my new favorite weapon!

Been really enjoying this mod so far, it makes legendary much more fun to play. Some personal feedback I would give from my experience so far: -The magnum is SIGNIFICANTLY better at killing shielded enemies than any other projectile weapon in the game, even when not duel-wielding. While it should be powerful as it is fairly rare in the Halo 2 campaign, I feel like its rate of fire should be toned down a bit, making it a bit more similar to CE's pistol. -The needler, while fun as hell to use, still isn't really viable for fighting at anything other than close quarters and it's quite frustrating how I see the enemies only die from the needler after they've already killed me. At the same time, it isn't really fun to fight against as the projectiles are slow and predictable but extremely hard to dodge, so your only choice is to take cover which interrupts the flow of the fight. This is the case in base Halo 2 but since there are far more enemies with the Needler with this mod it becomes much more apparent. I suggest increasing the speed of the needler projectiles but decreasing their tracking ability, and maybe changing some areas to make sure there aren't too many enemies with the Needler at once. -The Plasma Grenade feels far too lethal in this mod, both when using it and when having it used against you. The one-hit kill radius is much larger than it is in vanilla H2, making it extremely easy to die to, and at the same time if you get a good throw it can easily annihilate an entire squad at once, one-shotting elites even when they are relatively far from the center of the explosion. I believe the lethality of the grenade should be toned down and it should only one hit kill Elites and the player if they are standing fairly close to the grenade. -Enemies dual-wielding plasma rifles, especially the jetpack elites, are very frustrating to fight against as they kill you ridiculously quickly and with the buff to the plasma rifle's projectile speed it's difficult to avoid their projectiles. This isn't really that big of a deal, though, as there aren't many sections of the game where you fight multiple enemies of this type at once. I've only completed the first few missions with this mod so far, so if I have any more feedback I'll be sure to add it. Aside from a few annoyances, I have been loving this mod, so thank you for making it!

​@@RubyofBlue I'd also like to mention that buffed plasma pistols for enemies are quite frustrating to fight against, especially drones, since it's so much stronger and they appear in such large numbers, maybe you could somehow nerf it for those enemies. You can't even take much cover since they fly.

@@RubyofBlue Sorry about bombarding with more feedback but shotgun wielding enemies. They can one shot the player easily, and I think they shouldn't be able to. Unlike the sword which easily telegraphed, it's kinda hard to dodge a shotgun.

Nice to see the Magnum be buffed! I think it fires 12.7mm, like a Desert Eagle pistol, so it'd make sense for it to deal high amounts of chipping damage. It's odd too when compared to Infinite's Sidekick pistol, which fires 10mm cartridges

Holy hell this is cool! Despite playing Halo 2 first, I played Halo 1 the most due to its fun moment-to-moment interaction. Each level felt like it's own story, not a transition to the next cutscene. After hearing about the rushed nature of the development, I've been hoping for a mod just like this and am glad to have found it!!

8:20 Jackals can actually use plasma rifles in vanilla Halo 2. In Delta Halo after the first inside section with lots of ghosts you emerge into a large square outside area with a building in the middle that you end up going inside. There are two Jackals that start on the edge of that building and on Legendary on they have plasma rifles.

The CE mod does get rid of a couple of annoying situations, but I felt it kinda redundant. However you ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT with this one. I finally can have fun on legendary. This is how it shouldve been back in 2004 and I can't wait to see it when H2 comes to steam

We don't fight Marines in Halo 2! Wow, watching 9:24 It never once occurred to me. Of course we could always shoot a few in the face as Master Chief and they'd turn on you, but we never once had them incorporated in levels as enemies. Bungie missed a huge opportunity allowing us to play as the Covenant, but not once fight the UNSC as enemies. Sure The Flood use UNSC equipment sometimes, but that's totally different thematically from actually fighting humans.

Rob Alexander You'd think Bungie would be OK with marine enemies in the Library levels considering Marathon Infinity aka Marathon 3 had human enemies you were forced to fight in many levels. Marathon bobs as enemies are cheap hit scanners though, like the shotgun zombies in Doom but without spread.

Dude, this is awesome. Thanks for putting the time in to improve the game. One thing I do think is strange is the Arbiter fighting human enemies. I say this because from a story standpoint, it makes him feel like more of an enemy than a potential ally, which he becomes by the end of the story.

Dude you have got to do this for the upcoming Halo 2 mcc on pc. I have never even thought about half of these possible balance changes, but when you say what you have done it becomes almost essential for Halo 2's game play to be awesome. This with updated graphics would make even SPV3 shake in its boots, and possibly create the best Halo experience ever.

It drove me NUTS in the vanilla game that you never fought humans as the arbiter! It felt like playing as an elite was pointless if you're only fighting the same enemies that the master chief was already fighting, just reskinned. Halo 2 was a great game but it definitely had some missed opportunities, and the way they implemented the arbiter was one of them. Really awesome to see you added in human fights. can't wait to played this in MCC PC!

Halo mod tools for MCC are out, but it'll still be a little bit before I get around to remaking and updating this mod! I want to complete my current project of a big video brainstorming ideas for a Sonic Adventure remake. Then, I want to remake and update CE Rebalanced using its new tools. For some reason, on MCC in anniversary graphics, some ODSTs appear as marines in ceremonial dress. This doesn’t happen in original graphics.

I've just installed the re-balance for both Halo CE and Halo 2, with Reach downloading right now.. About to launch into it for the first time. I'm so very excited. Oh and it's also the first time I've replayed the Halo series in years.

Thank you for making this, i loved halo as a kid but replaying now i feel like its bit different and idk how i beat in on legendary, Looking back now i remember taking cover and popping a lot, which isn't as fun. Thank you for making a mod how i remembered halo 2. Does dual SMG still recoil still goes up? man was fun trying to control that. I remember my first xbox live i got my first 30 or 40 bomb with them,

Did anyone else think that the Brute Plasma Rifle and the normal one were the exact same in colour? I used to make it my goal when I played to dual wield both just because it looked prettier.

The only issue with increasing your melee damage is that you already have variant melee damage depending on if your jump striking and the weapon type.but if ur cool with it awesome lol

Only played through cairo so far and I already love the changes, I actually had a lot of fun on cairo, and really like the changes so far.

@@RubyofBlue Only issue is something I believe stems from the vista port. At times the game will be jittery and laggy, changing the anti alas seems to fix it after changing it a bunch, but still. And I found out that the vista port is limited to five installs, after that the cd is unusable. No wonder it's taken so many years for Halo to return to pc, the first two attempts are disasters. And yet they used those versions for anniversary.

@@RubyofBlue Only major complaint that may just be halo 2, or the vista port but the ai for allies seems more braindead when it comes to following me. I had this happen a few times when I played Halo 2 the first time (on vista because I didn't own a 360)

@@RubyofBlue I love the magnum in this, I almost wish it was the starting secondary for all chief levels, except for delta halo for obvious reasons. I like it a little more then CE's because of the sound effect, really glad they changed the sound in CE anniversary

As for suggestions I would mainly suggest increasing ammo counts on pickup and starting weapons since if you start a fresh level or pick up new weapons it takes a while to get them to the new max ammo capacities.

I think that's okay. I think it's more satisfying to gradually scout for and compile more ammo for the weapon rather than starting with a huge amount from the get go. Encourages looking around and keeping an eye out.

Now that I'm in the middle of Oracle I just thought of a halo 3 feature, where if you stick a carrier form it won't release infection forms. would this be doable (let alone a good idea)?

3:31 "Considering the Magnum is pretty rare..." Except on Sacred Icon where it's everywhere. Before you meet up with the Elites, it's possible to go the whole level with the Magnums. They're so common for some reason!

The only thing holding me back is that since it's mainly a Legendary rebalance, there are some discrepancies with normal difficulties. For example one annoying thing in Halo 2 was that all elites that melee you will instantly kill you regardless of difficulty. But in this mod (last I played) they don't one hit you on Legendary, but still do on every other one. But overall, everything, especially the weapon changes (praise be shotgun!) are awesome.

I'm not sure why there would be discrepancies between difficulties with enemy melee. Keep in mind that the player can be assassinated in this game, regardless of difficulty.

@@RubyofBlue Last I played they always 1 hit you below legendary, unless they somehow always assassinate you from the front. Haven't tried this one yet, so I might be wrong (legendary damage is now heroic damage so I guess anything below that should be fine?) One question I have is that in your previous releases, the health changes (aka brutes and flood) only applied on Legendary, is this still true?

I've hoped for something like this since I played Halo 2 on my original Xbox as a kid. You should seriously ask 343 if they want to add this mod as an official addon to MCC Halo 2 when it's released in a few months.

i think one of the big rules for bungie and 343 has been, "no fighting humans", thats why at least in vanilla, arbiter never fought any, nor have we seen the unsc fighting the resistance despite having great potencial in lore and gameplay.

im having trouble with cairo station i played it on legendary on the steam mcc version and it would just crash everytime i tried to play it. it was the same with all the other maps. im not sure if this was meant for the microsoft version or it was just a bad download. idk. i tried the halo 3 mod out and it worked perfectly with the acceptions of a few bugs here and there where no objective would show up and the game would crash everytime the gravemind spoke. but other then that the gameplay was solid as hell on legendary and was just an absolute blast.

Hi Ruby, having learned about your rebalanced mods through the Reach and CE ones you released for MCC, I was excited to learn that the first one you ever did was for H2! Your philosophy for many of these changes/edits are the same gripes I've always had about H2's balancing on Legendary. With H2/H2A soon to be coming out on PC now that it's being flighted, I had a question regarding one thing. I only saw it mentioned by one person below in the comments, but do you plan on addressing for the PC release of this mod the forced Iron-skull penalty that is enabled for co-op Legendary? I ask this because I'm planning on doing a Legendary co-op run with a friend of mine, and he's not excited about having to deal with that effect. I always found it strange that 343 never implemented an option to disable it for people who weren't a fan of it (since it nullifies the point of the Iron skull), so I was wondering if you had any plans for that!

Hey I have a question. You know that the Wraith mortar has an unused charging effect? It's possible to apply it to the Wraith but it requires holding down the button in order to fire the shot. It's a really cool effect, but the AI doesn't seem to know how to use it properly. Instead of holding the button it just taps it as before, and you can see the charging animation start up for a second. I have been in Assembly messing around with numbers, particularly in the char tag under ai/generic, weapon associations. I attempted to compare the Wraith mortar charge to the Hunter's particle beam cannon, since they both require charging. After many hours messing with stuff, I haven't been able to figure it out. Do you have any idea how to get it working for the AI? Much would be appreciated. About the video, I think a good motto to go by is "more like CE". I liked how you made the Spec-Ops Elites and Major Elites' colors resemble CE's more.

"The most fun I've had from Halo usually comes from big battles". Someone please tell that to 343. Both 4 and 5 only had around three levels per game where you have allies; and in 5 you never even get to fight alongside the UNSC. Then there's infinite; which seems to be going the FarCry route where you're just alone on the over-world save for specific allies in specific places. I just can't get over how they didn't realize actual military conflicts were a major part of Halo's DNA.

I love the original Halo 2 on legendary speed running or regular play dang you nerfed the jackal snipers xO those are the best part lol, I used to hate them but if you play through all of the games on solo legendary a couple times legendary becomes easier

I mean if we're being realistic to the Halo canon any melee attacks should be like a one hit kill with the exception of brutes and hunters who will only take 2 hits before dying. It's not really shown off that well in the games but Spartans and Sanghelis are fucking strong as shit. Like if you got punched in the face by a Spartan II who isn't holding back you'll probably be decapitated as the force hitting you would be like a concentrated airplane kamikaze attacking you.
