I consider it divine intervention when I create a new character, explicitly think and say that this character won't even last 5 days, and immediately find a "how to use generators" manual in the first house I loot - And then the first attack from a zombie I get is a bite on the neck. sunday driver is a death sentence, with this perk if you happen to get stuck or have an engine cut in a crowd of zombies (which happens often) you will not be able to go from 0 into zombies who have now surrounded you, sunday driver reduces your acceleration so much that you struggle to push out from a crowd of zombies and will die like this. a good replacement negative is short sighted (increases the speed at which you lose sight of zombies when you turn away which is fast regardless)

Funny thing is that can sort of work IRL. Part of the reason why Finland did so well against the Soviets despite being massively outnumbered and worse equipped is thought to be how cold, calm, and calculated the Finns were both with the officers and with the frontline troops. That was partially a cultural thing and due to training but it was also due to the fact opiate and amphetamine use were pretty high, some combat troops took amphetamines to stay awake longer and opiate use was pretty heavy as well. The opiates not only dulled things like pain and curbed appetite but also dulls emotions making you really calm and calculated and deadens things like discomfort. This kept their men from panicking, helped officers to make rational decisions, and while it didnt really boost morale it kept it from dropping too much. Cigarettes arent nearly as good at that but large intakes of nicotine can make you calmer, especially if you're already a smoker.

Should add I used a spawn mod to spawn in the city from the start too. Unfortunately spawned in the right southernmost point, but it could have been worse. I like that the zomboid community encourages people to play the way they want. I'm currently grinding a sandbox character intended to max all skills, so that world has low population, no infection, no helicopters and I make a copy of its save file before playing. I really love the long form progression of the game. Feeling how much better the character gets at certain skills is very satisfying, aiming, short blade and axes especially.

If that were true, those guys in the comments wouldn't call the ones playing with multi-hit "wimps". C'mon, we both know the community isn't that willing to tolerate experienced players playing with multi-hit, to the same extent as needing to stay silent about it, like a gay in Russia/Ukraine/Moldova or in sports. Every community has these backseat, superiority complex gamers that actively ruin people's experience with this game. I will not bash your comment, but please be aware, If you post this comment anywhere else other than here, you will get hate for playing on sandbox and "enhancing" your experience.

Theoretically stacking the negative perks obese, feeble, and unfit is extremely efficient. You basically get such a massive penalty that your stats should be in the negatives, but since they cannot go below zero you are getting free points for min maxing so hard. In reality however fitness and strength takes an absurdly long time to level up. Leveling from 1 to 5 takes a decent amount of time, however getting to level 8/9 takes incredibly long which is what makes the athletic and strong traits so good. Honestly just get the mod that lets you raise the fitness and strength XP multiplier to 5x

The reason a bag makes things "weigh" less is because the amount of space an item takes up in your inventory is not only determined by its weight, but by how hard it would be to carry. If something is hard to carry, but not heavy, it still has a high encumbrance value. Carrying a bag makes it easier to carry a greater volume of stuff.

Sunday driver is sleeper killer trait in my opinion. While a slower max speed is perfectly fine, the issue is that it affects acceleration of the vehicle, not just the max speed. This means if you off road, you are driving at a crawl. If you have to reverse off road, you are going at a snails pace. The biggest killer is that if you are in a procarious situation and need to get out fast as zombies swarm you, your car has less power. It will take you 2 to 3 seconds speed up enough to escape the zombies, and worse, if zombies surround your car, you may not have the power to ram through them resulting in death because of a 1 point trait. This is a great guide though, definite thumbs up!

There's another very big perk to Burglar that often gets overlooked. The immediate "nimble" bonus makes a huge difference in early combat, combine it with stout and fit and you can immediately start taking out big groups with relative ease. Hotwiring right from the start can also be nice when playing on default settings where most cars are fucked up for no reason, just pick a decent one and hotwire that fucker and go find your base.
@arthas640
@arthas640 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, hotwiring is a real game changer and can help you find a good base from the very beginning rather than setting up shop in a random place until you can find someplace better or starting out near a ton of zombies and having to avoid them on foot. Especially useful since if there's a horde near a good supply spot you can use the car as a distraction to lure them away while you double back and loot the place without needing to worry about a horde outside.

My rationale for multi-hit is collateral damage. I push something over, it's gonna fall into things around it and might knock them down too. Same thing with the undead. I swing something, it might clip another zombie or the one I hit might bump into one of its nearby buddies.

An excellent introduction. I would only substantially differ on one point. Tailoring is NOT a "leave it till later" skill at all. It is not difficult to get tailoring to Level 10 within a matter of days (esp. if you know a bookstore where you can grab all the books). Having Tailoring at Level 10 offers an enormous amount of protection. There are some pretty good threads about it on reddit. At high levels of Tailoring, the protective value of patches is higher At high levels (maybe 8 or maybe 10 I cannot recall) you can COMPLETELY repair items, meaning restore them 100% condition. At high levels the chance that you can remove a patch or a padding and get all the materials back is higher. You gain Tailoring XP by ripping up garments (scissors required for denim and leather garments) So with all that said: the best min-max gambit is to: I. As early as possible, get hold of a scissors and set it to fav so you never put it down II. Every time you kill ANY zombies, operate so that you create "safe areas" around the corpses. Then return to the piles of corpses and rip up EVERY SINGLE GARMENT. III. Keep ALL THREAD (you can consolidate small fragmentary spools into full spools with the right-click menu. IV. Keep ALL DENIM and all LEATHER. It is good to have some ripped sheet material too, but if you actually keep "all of it" you'll have thousands. I've got a whole 70 capacity crate full of it, plus another couple hundred in a truck and another 1500 in a pile on the floor! V. You level up Tailoring primarily by doing sessions of adding padding to a garment (Overalls is ideal as it has the most slots that can take padding)--use Add padding to all and full speed mode to reduce tedium--then remove all padding. Rinse and repeat. At lower levels this will burn through your materials, but as you get higher level you manage to get back more and more of the material VI. Denim gives more XP than sheet material and I think probably leather more than that too. However, it is smart to keep all your leather for once you get to Level 10 Tailoring and then use it to make your Superman costume (My toon has 100% on all body parts except Neck and hands which both have 20/25% Bite and 40/50% Scratch protection . . . I have yet to find anything to cover neck so that is just form a leather jacket with padding on the neck and I don't know if there is anything actually better than standard leather gloves. ADDIT: I would also disagree with your take on Mechanics. Mechanics is possibly the best skill in the game, as cars are incredibly powerful if used wisely and the difference between a well-tuned, fixed up car and a beat up jaloopy is also gigantic. Metalworking, mainly because of how useful it is for doing bodywork on cars is worth getting to at least four. Cars also magnify your looting capacity enormously. I'm driving around a 1992 Chevy Tahoe that is at about 90% condition (unless I fuck up and ram into a fence or something). Set the cruise control to 5 mph and (a) zombies basically cannot hurt me as well as (b) zombies mostly cannot hurt my car (they will take swipes at it but if you keep moving their ability to do this is much limited. Keep the driver window down and the firearm handy and you can easily mow down hundreds of zombies in a matter of a real-time hour or so and at almost zero risk. This Tahoe has a "trunk" carrying capacity of about 130, and it has six seats (counting the drivers seat) so that is 5 x 26 additional carrying capacity inside the passenger compartment. Being able to haul off 6 large pieces of furniture like household fridges (or even as many as 3 popsicle fridges) in one trip is gigantic (fridges being a good way to block ground level doors and windows). One last point: put your barricades (and blocking items like fridges) INSIDE the house/base/building. Block off ALL the ground level entry points from inside: use sheet ropes to get into and out of your base.

But it requires a saw to disassemble (while bed only requires a hammer) and you need to drop all the trash out of it before you are allowed to scrap it. But still worth knowing if you want to max your carpentry leveling from limited area. Electrics: get a screwdriver. Find a vehicle. No matter what condition. Uninstall the radio. (if you want to be a minmaxer then put it back in for some more mechanic xp and then remove again) Use funtiture->place to put the radio on the ground. And then once it is on the ground and pixelated disassemble it. This way you get 5 times more xp. Assuming you have the beginners book getting to level 2 should take about 15 radios. Also you can scrap all the radios and tvsets you find in houses. When they are placed as furniture. If you find a radio in a container - place it as furniture. Unless you are actually hunting for materials. In that case you should disassemble them as items. Spears: if you have wood glue you can fix spears. If an item is strapped as a spearhead, and then you detach it from well repaired spear, its quality will be inheretrd from the spear. And on top of it the number of repairs the item received for diminishing returns purpose will also be set to 0. So machete can be restored indefinitely if you have enough wood glue and duct tape. And machete with appropriate skill is a one-swing-kill weapon.

I've always thought gym equipment would make great zombie weapons. Get a bunch of small to medium sized plates for a barbell or dumbell and huck them like oversized frisbees at zombies from a roof, even if you dont score a headshot 10-25 pounds of lead falling from a second story or roof would still cripple them if it hits a shoulder or leg and a large 45 pounder will flatten them like Mario jumping on a goomba. A barbell without weights would also make a decent blunt "spear" you can jab at zombies heads, ideally from a slight rise like some stairs or a raised platform, a good poke or two will cave a skull in.

Underweight isn't better for being able to eat (well, that's nice) But it's taken because it can be worked out 2-3 times faster than overweight, and (many more times) faster than obese, BUT: It lets you take the 'fit' perk, which gives a MASSIVE hidden bonus on top of the actual fitness change. Also, it bears mentioning, ammo is *not* finite, you can very rarely find ammo from foraging

@@commisaryarreck3974 True in real life too. One time at work a guy pulled out keys for a work vehicle out of his pocket and some .45 rounds came out with the keys. Turned out he'd just forgotten a handful of bullets in there from target practice the day before; I've also had coworkers show up with loose shell casings or bullets in their tool bags they forgot in there.

Sunday driver is easily dealt with? In case you wanna stroll around your local town, sure. But as soon as you plan to move out into a different town such as louisville, the speed cap will really start annoying you. Oh yea, driving on dirt roads and grass is also gonna be a no-no since most times it slows you down to a crawl.

15:40 To whatever random person may read this: Think of it not as reducing an item's weight, so much as the ease of carrying it. Sure, you could hold ten books in your hands, but that'd be unwieldy and difficult. A backpack makes carrying ten books much easier and frees you up. So instead of thinking of carrying capacity as "weight", I think of it as "carrying ease".

You make a lot of great points and I love when I get to see extensive reviews on my favorite game. I have been playing Project Zomboid all the way back when the game was supposed to be a mere story driven concept following Baldspot (aka, Bob) and Kate. I could talk for ages about all of the unique mechanics that I love about this game, some of which is being given the authority to play the game the way you want. If you get a negative reaction solely because of the choice of settings you choose to use, then you are being gatekept my friend. I also am from the frame of mind that appreciates all of the options available to the gamer be it through adjusting the settings or downloading mods. I see no difference between using multi-hit and subbing to any of the vast number of quality of life mods on the workplace. That all being said, I play with multi-hit and have just recently started making a heavily modded Project Zomboid series despite my apparent lack of editing expertise just to see if anything happens, and I am currently three months into the journey of my first survivor. My point is I play the game the way I want and I will never let anyone tell me how to enjoy playing my favorite game. We all play the same game, and regardless of any setting you choose or any mod you install (other than cheats) Project Zomboid is STILL one of the most difficult survival games and honestly you could take the zombies out of the equation and I still believe that the mechanics of this game sans zomboids would make a very enthralling gaming experience ~ but we all know that would be way less fun, so no self respecting PZ enjoyer would degrade themselves to that extreme (sarcasm - you do you, boo boo). I felt the need to leave my two cents when I heard you mention your disagreement with the community about using multi-hit or not. I am on your side completely, but I am more of a mind that would rather spend my sparse free time playing my favorite games the way I want rather than falling to peer pressure being aided by extreme gatekeeping by a community that should be working together to spread the word about this spectacular game rather than trying to defeat your fellow survivors over personal preference. Have a great day ~ :)

While i usually play with Multihit myself most of the time, i think that turning off Multihit gives Firearms a lot more value in dealing with hordes. Instead of hoarding all that shotgun ammo, you now have to use it to clear out a larger and densly populated locations, which makes it a more valuable ressouce.

I gotta disagree with occupation choice tbh. Burglar is so powerful for new players. Getting a working car early, when you don't know how to get one or the best ways to train mechanics and electronics, is such a boost to survivability. The sneak and lightfooted bonuses are great too. You should be sneaking anytime you even suspect zombies anyway, so the quieter you are the better. With lockpicking coming soon burglar is gonna get even better
