My mom used to make this with mutton or chicken & used to call it Khichda. She would add a fist full of chana dal to it too which gave it added flavour & a richer texture.

We also make this with leftover beef/mutton curry and call it Gosht khichuri. Actually the preparation with chawal- daal and spices is called khichuri here in Bangladesh
