Paruppu illa Keerai Kadayal Recipe
Prep: 15 mins | Cooking: 20 mins | Serves: 3
Intro:
Paruppilla Keerai Kadayal is a delicious alternate you can make on the go. The only work in this is cleaning the keerai. This recipe uses no toor dhal or tamarind which gives It a very different and delicious taste compared to normal Keerai Kadayal.
Ingredients:
1 bunch keerai (washed and chopped)
1/2 tsp mustard
1 tsp urad dhal
4 dry red chillies
8 shallots chopped (samba vengayam)
2 tomatoes diced
salt to taste
Ingredient to season:
1/2 thalippu vadaam (vengaya vadagam)
Method:
1. In a pot add 1 cup of water, then add the cleaned and chopped keerai.
2. Cook for 10 - 15 minutes or until done, turn off the flame & keep aside.
3. In a kadai, heat a spoon of peanut oil and crackle the mustard. Then add the urad dhal and let it turn golden.
4. Now add dry red chillies, take care not to burn the chillies. Then add the chopped samba vengayam. Saute well until the onions softens.
5. Now add the diced tomatoes and salt to taste. Saute well, then cover and cook until the tomatoes get mashed.
6. Then add the cooked keerai, mix well, cover & cook and bring it to a boil for another 7-10 minutes in low flame. Turn off the flame, and mash the keerai well with a masher.
7. Finally to season, in a seasoning kadai heat a spoon of peanut oil, add the thalippu vadaam and fry until golden. Turn off the flame.
8. Transfer the keerai to a serving bowl and pour the seasoning ontop of the keerai.
Delicious Keerai Kadayal is ready to eat with steamed, soft rice and papadum.
