Great video ! I live in canada near the great lakes ten years ago rudd were introduced unnaturally through ballast water from ships in the welland canal. Now there is a healthy naturalized population of fish to 5lbs had a session other day 14 over 3lb biggest 19"er waggler corn.
@drpaulgarner4 жыл бұрын
Wow, that’s incredible Justin! I’ve fished for carp around Washington DC in the past, but never in Canada, and never knew you had Rudd. Tight lines!

Heard about these big Rudd in Buckland. I'm guessing you were fishing the big Pitt? It's closed now and been turned into a nature reserve. Shame I only live 1 mile from it!!

They were a crazy couple of months on there Paul, Alan and I caught it right at the back end and missed most of the fun. I believe from talking to Scott, my 3lb 0.5oz was the last '3' the big pit did before they all just disappeared. There was another pit the other side of the cliff, and they were joined up at the diving club end by a large tunnel from the quarrying days. I often wonder if they all just moved off into there to escape the pressure?
@drpaulgarner4 жыл бұрын
It was certainly a mystery Mike. I wish I’d joined the club and had a dive in there. Sure it would of been interesting from the stories I was told.

I just found a KZbin video which showed fishermen catching several huge rudd at a spot in Southern Ontario, the first time I've heard of that happening despite the fish first appearing in the province about twenty years ago. I will follow up, but it looks as though we might have great opportunities to try for them in Canada in the coming years. Tench are making their way up the St Lawrence and into Lake Ontario, so we might eventually find both species.

Hey Paul, Can't remember if i've asked already, but do you do any coaching? I'd be interested in some Pike coaching one winter but seems hard to find a coach for that :)
@drpaulgarner4 жыл бұрын
hi mate, I'm afraid I don't do any coaching. How about having a look at the Pike Anglers Club website? They will often have a region near you and can probably recommend a coach. Cheers, Paul

@drpaulgarner4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, it’s 4lb 10oz. So that’s absolutely massive! The biggest I’ve heard of in a very long time. Cheers, Paul
@seandade63154 жыл бұрын

Really bizarre you saying about a cliff face, literally the first fish I ever caught was a 2lb rudd in tiny farm pond, every one fishing with me called me a jammy so and so but that pit had a massive 30 foot odd sandstone back wall, no saying there is anything in that but it's interesting none the less
@devmurrau74873 жыл бұрын
You have not show us how to catch big rudd, do you actually fish
@Carbon_restoration_mx4 жыл бұрын
Bucklands has shut its doors completely to fishing now, he’s talking as if he’s caught these fish from the 40acre pit when in fact these fish are from the cut off match/pleasure lake of around an acre!!! Come on now, no point fibbing!!!!
@michaellyddon3234 жыл бұрын
They were all from the big pit, there were a few caught by other anglers from the match lake, but almost all of the big ones came from the 40 acre.
@drpaulgarner4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, for the record, they were caught from the big pit. I never fished the smaller lakes. I’d not heard the lakes were shut, that’s a shame.
@Carbon_restoration_mx4 жыл бұрын
Paul Garner Fishing fair enough, yes I’ve been trying to get hold of them for the last couple of weeks, no answer on the phone and the website says they are closed to fishing indefinitely 😞
