Rudder? yes rudder! Do not get in the habit of always doing aileron turns. In a slow speed, a aileron turn often invites the tip stall monster to pay you a visit. Learn to do flat turns or a coordinated turn using your rudder, ailerons, elevator and throttle all at the same time to make a great slow rudder turn.
In this video I explain just that and how and show examples of it.
EMBRACE THE RUDDER!!!!!!
This plane is the Parkzone Sport Cub S2 that is sadly no longer sold. However the Hobbyzone Carbon cub S2 is the same plane just in a different paint scheme. Get that bird here: www.horizonhob...
Thanks for watching and being my only sponsor!
You do that by hitting that thumbs up button and subscribing to my channel! Also hit that little bell and you will be notified every time I upload a video!
God bless!!

That red and white color scheme looks great against that blue sky. I learned to fly "real" airplanes long before I got into RC so I've used my rudder from the word go. I don't care for RC planes that don't have a rudder. Always enjoy your videos, so keep 'em coming.

I was thinking of mixing some rudder with my Ailerons...on my Bigfoot.... Not much...just little your thoughts?

I never do, I want to feel it and do it manually so I cannot advise you. The only mix I ever use is a flap to elevator mix.

Hi, I just got the carbon Cub s2 flew 2 landings and all good. Does the poly acrylic make the surfaces stronger? If so could you please let me know which one you used and any tips for application. Thanks Stephen

It does not make it stronger. Think of it as a coat of wax on your cars paint. Here is my video on that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5m0f6OFlLxle9k

you can have a coordinated turn while flat, or banked, it just means that the rear is following the front. this is important because as the rear comes out-of-line, you increase the stall speed. banking in a turn also increases the stall speed. so you see a lot of rc planes stall in the final turn: they are slow, banked, and typically just before they roll over and fall, uncoordinated. in a lot of stalls i've seen, just before they rolled over and fell, you could see the rear of the plane slide out. not sure if it was because of incorrect rudder application, or the wind blowing their plane around, or some other factor. and on the first few generations of the super cub, they didn't have ailerons at all, haha! only rudder and elevator!

Great flying as always, and I especially loved that speed taxiing through a narrow gate. But I have to agree with Adam's comment; I'm afraid you could upset a lot of flight instructors if you call flat rudder turns coordinated. The goal of coordination is to keep the ball in the middle, right? Just a touch of rudder to compensate for the adverse yaw. Boring, if you ask me. One of the reasons why I left full scale aviation for R/C. But I will never be able to match your precision landings of low wing loading craft in high winds. Not supposed to be possible. Respect.

Well its like this, imagine you have never had any instructions and you taught yourself completely one your own. You came up with your own terminology and procedures through trial and error and money spent. Thats me, What I have learned , I learned the hard way by crashing and trying again. Once I had a bad tip stall with a curved wing cub that almost destroyed the plane. I watched others fly on video and thought if I was able to keep my wings level in a turn then the TIP would not happen , So through learning how to turn FLAT I do not tip stall . It works, looks cool and I passed it on. It may not be technically correct or may ruffle a few instructors feathers but my video shows it works and works well. I have MANY videos up on my channel where I do my flat turns even at very low speeds and no tip stall. Thanks for your input and advice I actually do listen and consider what is told to me. No matter what it all benefits the hobby to help us further enjoy the best hobby out there.

@@FatGuyFliesRC Absolutely. You develop an acute sense of what works and what doesn't, especially in R/C, where we can take greater risks to test our margins. I love flat turns in FPV, they make the recordings more watchable. But please don't do them too close to the ground. Aggressive rudder inputs at low speeds was exactly what we used to induce spins (which require tip stalls) during currency training. You have helped me avoid a dumpsterload of crashes over the years; hope I can help you steer clear of at least one that might have your name on it. Rudder is a great thing to have, and essential for graceful turns, but anything can be overdone. To use a Norwegian expression: Keep your tongue straight in your mouth when you do flat turns.

These “coordinated” turns are not ideal in many scenarios….by just using rudder to point the airplane in a direction is putting the plane into a Skidding turn….which can lead to insipient stall/spins. To keep the airplane coordinated in a turn, especially high wing airplanes, you apply rudder in the direction you are banking to counteract adverse yaw. Once the airplane is at your desired bank, you no longer need rudder to keep the turn coordinated, just the appropriate elevator pressure to maintain altitude. When rolling out of the turn, you use rudder again. No doubt that doing rudder “flat” turns are fun, but be careful

When or why is it dangerous to "load up" the wing when banking? And how is this affected when flying turns in windy conditions?
